Our Mission Statement: “As Christians based on the solid

Our Theme:
Each month this year we are considering how different Biblical
characters made our Lord known in unique ways. In February,
we remember Paul, who “Made Him Known” to the nations.
WELCOME VISITORS We have printed out our worship service to make it easier for all of

& Praise, the purple supplement. Please visit our “Welcome Center” in the narthex for additional
information about Redeemer.
OUR THEME FOR TODAY is “To Win As Many As Possible.” Paul was a man with a
mission – to win as many as possible for Christ. While he would never compromise the Gospel,
he was willing to be flexible when it came to customs and traditions.


THE NATIONS
As we hear of the ministry of Paul during the
month of February, we will be reminded of the
continued opportunity to share the love of Jesus
with all people. During 2015, we have
designated $145,000, about 15% of our total
budget, for ministry beyond our congregation.
During these next weeks, we will highlight
some of the special mission efforts your giving
helps to make possible.
ORPHAN GRAIN TRAIN
The profits from our Advent Supper is
dedicated to helping of the world with physical
and spiritual needs through this Lutheran
volunteer organization.
PASTOR MANDLA THWALA and
the members of Ntshongweni Lutheran Church
in South Africa. We heard of this special
ministry last September when Pastor Thwala
preached at our worship services. We have
$6,000 in our budget this year for special needs
of the mission — likely some kind of a vehicle
that Pastor Thwala would be able to drive for
his ministry.
LOOSE COINS each Sunday are given to
local mission needs; 1st quarter—Rochester
Servant Event, 2nd quarter—Interfaith
Hospitality Network, 3rd quarter—Community
Food Response, and 4th quarter—Channel One
Food Pantry. In addition, there is $500 in our
budget for IHN.

Islam
In this class we will explore the religion of
Islam. The religion of Islam has been quite
popular in the news and other media given
our involvement in the Middle East area. It
goes all the way back to when Abraham
told Hagar to leave along with her son
Ishmael. Where did it come from? Does it
have anything in common with
Christianity? How do we witness to those
of Islam in our world today? There are
many questions and myths about the
Islamic religion. Let’s explore those
together and learn exactly what the Islamic
religion teaches to those who follow it.
DCE Intern, Brian Weyers, leads this
discussion in the North Fellowship Hall.
FAITH LEGACY: Towel & Basin
In the 10:40 service, we celebrate with families
who have completed the Faith Step "Towel &
Basin". These families met for three weeks to
learn how to teach their Kindergarteners to
serve God and others. Thank you to Katie
Schulz for leading this step. Please keep these
and all families in your prayers as they have
the important task of passing the faith onto
their children.
FAITH LEGACY SERIES:
Worship Kit
Parents of 3 year olds, please join us for the
Faith Step “Worship” as we learn how to teach
our children how to show their love for God in
worship. The classes meet for three weeks
(2/15, 2/22, 3/1) and concludes with the
Blessing Event and a gift for your child on
March 8. This class meets in the Upper Room
and is led by Dean Jensen and Larry Reinartz.
RETIREMENT CELEBRATION
for Pastor John Schleicher will be Sunday,
March 8, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church
in Holland, Michigan. Pastor Schleicher
served at Redeemer from 1995 until 2005. All

CELEBRATING GOD’S GRACE
is a class which looks at the teachings and
practices of the Lutheran Church, for those
considering membership or wanting a review.
It is taught on the second Saturday of each

On February 18, we will celebrate Ash
Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten

“Walking With Jesus—Then and Now.”

Our mission at Redeemer states that we "welcome all
into our family of believers." After being welcoming and
friendly inside our building we want to extend that into
the homes of our visitors. When a visitor provides an
address we would like stop by and say thank you. To do
this we need 4-5 more visitor teams.
Teams = 2 people—Pick your partner!

 Pick the visits and locations that are convenient to you
 Only visiting people who have visited Redeemer and provided their address
 If you can drive, hand out a welcome packet, and say "Hi, thanks for visiting Redeemer"

OUTREACH
Family Game Night Neighborhood Ministry:
If you have seen the map near our restrooms
you have seen that the Lord has spread our
congregation's homes all over Rochester! We
have a huge opportunity for neighborhood
ministry. Many of our members are wondering
how they can be the presence of Jesus in their
neighborhoods but need encouragement and
ideas. How do we "live out, lift up, and share
our faith" in our neighborhoods? The Growth
Through Outreach team is looking for 1 point
person from each quadrant in Rochester (NE,
NW, SE, SW) to join us in equipping and
encouraging our homes for neighborhood
ministry. Is that person you? You do not need
all the answers or experience for this just the
desire for neighborhood ministry. Live your
normal everyday lives with Gospel
intentionality – Outreach made simply
practical! The G.T.O Team

plaque with the article from the Post
Bulletin on our recent mortgage burning.
You can see it at the Welcome Center.
They sent it to us with the hope that
someone would like it so much they would
be willing to donate the $120 for its
purchase. This has to be by February 12. If
anyone would like to do this, contact Chris
in the office (289-5147) by that date, or it
will be returned.

Ignite – Our next Ignite is this Sunday Feb 8. At this Ignite we will be digging into the
contemporary music library available to youth! If you have not tried out Ignite I think it is
time you do! 6th to 12th grade welcome.
RSE Pizza Ranch! – February 17 – The sign-up sheet will be up in a bit. If you are a
youth or adult who has done RSE or will be doing RSE sign up on the Youth Bulletin
Board to help at Pizza Ranch! Wear your RSE shirt if you have one!
Super Night! – February 27-28 – Many of you have heard of Super Night, a Rochester
wide youth lock in! Check out the youth bulletin board (Main floor hall near bathrooms).
You can sign up and get more info. Cost is $35 but that $35 gets you a ton of fun! We do
need checks in by February 11 so we can buy tickets!
Psalm 37:4 Scholarship: This scholarship, formed in memory of Josh Evers, is available
to all youth! Its purpose is to allow youth to attend youth events that they are unable to

CHOLESTEROL SCREENING
Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 15, 8:30 – 10:30 am, in the Fellowship Hall. This
is your opportunity for a total cholesterol screening, at no charge to you. Fasting is preferred.
One benefit of keeping your cholesterol in check is that it can help with stroke prevention.

INVITATION TO REDEEMER’S REGISTERED NURSES
Calling all RNs! Concordia University, Wisconsin has been offering educational opportunities
in congregational health ministries since 1989. The Spring 2015 Conference, Christian
Caregiving: The Concept and Practice of Parish Nursing and Congregational Health
Ministries, will be held in Mequon, Wisconsin, Monday, March 16, to Thursday, March 19,
2015, 8:30am – 5:30pm. May classes will be held Monday, May 4, to Thursday, May 7.
(27.64 contact hours have been approved for this conference.) A full range of topics will be
covered, from History and Philosophy of Parish Nursing: Jesus’ Caregiving, Legal and Ethical
Aspects of Parish Nursing and Congregational Health, Assessing the Congregation, to Exercise
Ministries, and more.

services. It has come to our attention that the greatest need is for
disposable diapers of all sizes, but especially size 5. Other baby items are
welcome also.

Epiphany is from the Greek word meaning to “reveal” or “make manifest.” The sea‐
son of Epiphany is our me to focus on the revela on of “who” Jesus is: both true God and man. During this month our theme encourages us to share Christ with all people. In our first hymn today “Hail to the Lord’s Anointed” LSB 398 – Christ is revealed to us in the text sharing how he breaks oppression, takes away our sin, comes to those who suﬀer – giving light to them in their darkness, that all na ons shall adore him, and that He has victory over every foe. What a great teaching hymn that re‐
veals Jesus as true God and true man! Take it Home This week we will hear in worship about how Paul gave up the freedom that was his and became a slave to everyone in order to win, or bring, as many as possible to Christ. This was a noble pursuit for Paul. What does that look like, to make ourselves a slave to everyone in order to bring them to Christ? Today many Chris ans seem to think making ourselves a slave to eve‐
ryone means to follow the same sin and idols that those around us are following. How does that win people to Christ? If we look no diﬀerent than others then we are not the ones who have won, they have. This week take home the confidence of the faith that you have in Christ. Take the form of a servant as Christ did, as Paul did. Stand out in your love for those who are lost. Do not lose yourself in this world but rescue the lost for Jesus sake. For those who for health or conscience reasons are not able to receive wine, please
note that there is a cup of white grape juice in the middle of each tray. Gluten-free
wafers are available in the middle of the bread tray for those with that allergy.
