Plenty of up and coming events for your Section. Please also refer to the appropriate page in the magazine for further information. Although it is cold, frosty and somewhat snowy, depending on where you live within the District, we can all I hope, detect the lengthening of the days and the return of outdoor Scouting events. Let’s hope the weather does not interfere too much with what has been planned. Ed. Contents January/February 2015 Editorial .......................................... Michael Bradshaw Website: Green Seas S ainsbury’s, Carrickfergus took pride in co-hosting Scouting in South East Antrim on Saturday 24th January 2015 . The Scout District, which ranges from Larne to Whitehouse and goes inland to Ballyclare and Kilbride village, at present has fourteen active Groups. See further photograph on page 6 of this issue. The number of young people wanting to join Scouts is growing to such an extent that many of the Groups have to operate a waiting list. More adults volunteering to act as helpers and leaders would enable many more young people to benefit from the social training and education of the Scout Movement. One extra leader in one group would allow eight more young people to benefit. Think one leader in each of fourteen Groups – that’s help to 112 more young people. If you think you have an hour or two to spare in a week or month why not contact www.scoutsni.com or telephone 028 90 492 829 and talk things over. Charlie Moore www.greenseas.org.uk 2 January 2015 Green Seas 11 January 2015 District Promotion Days The February date for our ‘Travelling Road Show’ have now been confirmed: Larne ASDA will host the Promotion on Saturday 28th February. See page 11 for a report on out most recent promtion day in Carrickfergus. Nominal times for each day will be 9.00 – 4.00, however we will packup when fatigue overtakes us. I have emailed the Scout Groups in and around Larne and Carrickfergus asking for volunteers to assist on each of the two days but any leader from any Group in the District who is able give an hour or two on either day will be made very welcome. If you are able to lend a hand please phone, text or email me to say what part(s) of the day and which day you will be available. We still have not received confirmation for our proposed day in March but, fingers crossed, it will come in soon. 25th April and 30th May are confirmed but I’ll give details later. The day involves a lot of standing around, handing out leaflets and talking to adults and trying to encourage them to assist running Scouting in their own communities ie existing Groups and perhaps starting a new Group. Perhaps I’ll see you in Larne. Charlie District Media Development Manager 028 93 322 027; Mob 077 200 75 909; [email protected] Green Seas 10 January 2015 Dictum D istrict Leaders’ Meeting.
