A Life of Healing and Joy
Last week I had two 7:00 a.m. Morning Prayers and 7:20 a.m. Masses at St. Pius X. The night
before each of these early Masses I was working until 10:00 p.m. As I have told you often, early
morning is not my best time, and in order to be pleasant
and attentive to my role as presider at these celebrations I
have to get up by 5:15. If I don’t I have a tendency to be a
bit short with those I pray with and a little resentful of the
early hour. By getting up at 5:00 I get over my morning
irritability before I have to see other people. However,
when my alarm goes off I feel as if the weight of the world
is on my shoulders, and I wonder if it would just be better
to stay in bed. I often wake up with a list of things to do in
my head, and I run through my calendar of events as I get ready to go to work. I worry that there
are not enough hours in the day to accomplish what is before me, and mornings can be a
struggle.
Job, in our first reading today, cries out what I sometimes feel. Like us, Job is worn out by life’s
pain, drudgery and struggle, and he cries out in despair. He is overwhelmed by the challenges
before him and sees no hope for salvation. In today’s Gospel Jesus is the answer to Job’s and my
dilemma. The healing, forgiving and saving power of Jesus lifts us up from suffering, lifts the
burden of sin and sets us on a path of saving service. The very presence of Jesus brings light and
hope to our lives and to the world. Once we have received the power of Jesus in our lives we are
set free to share that same hope and light with others. Like Peter’s mother-in-law, we are healed
and lifted up so that we might share that healing and joy with others through service. We are
awakened to a world of hope and light and are called to share the message of Jesus with the
world. Our struggles are still there, and we never lack challenges, but our struggle is filled with
hope and our challenges are made joyful through the power and presence of Jesus.
This weekend we celebrate the World Day for Consecrated Life. We praise God for the gift of
the men and women who dedicate their lives to “waking up the world” through their communal
life and service in Jesus’ name. We are especially grateful to the women of the religious
communities who have served our parishes throughout the years, and ask God to bless the
Church with vocations to the religious life. We especially recognize the hopeful and joyful
witness of Sr. Leeja and Sr. Viji Grace to our AFC through their service to St. Pius X School.
Their presence is a reminder of God’s blessings and the presence of Jesus among us. May their
ministry awaken us to the light of Christ and the hope that fills our lives with joy.

THE RE CONNECTION:
Has a certain color ever just reached out and grabbed you while you
were admiring a sunset? On the way in to the office tonight to
sprinkle these sugared thoughts about this page, a certain shade
spilling over the horizon pulled me in for a swim through its
pleasurable pool of pigments. Drowning in a hue of a faint orange
drizzled over a dusty rose creating an almost shimmering oxidation, a
shapeless familiarity was screaming to be recognized…Jim
Rockford’s Firebird!!! Sure, the Bandit’s black Trans Am and the
Duke Boys’ ‘ol General Lee blew the doors off of Rockford’s sleeper
in terms of turning heads, but Rockford’s ‘Bird always got the job
done. I guess the Almighty just wanted to remind anyone admiring
the sunset at that particular moment that it ain’t always about the
flash. No matter how you appear to others, you are always capable of
doing the Will of God…if you look hard enough yourself to
recognize it! So here’s to glorious sunsets, fast cars, bulletin columns
that don’t suck (sorry!), and relishing the goodness of God!
SHARE YOUR LOVE by purchasing your “Valentines of Love”
and a Donation of $2.00 or more to San Lucas Mission. The Council
of Catholic Women will be selling Mission of Love Valentines this
week-end and the weekend of February 7&8. The mission purchases
corn, rice, beans and school supplies which are distributed to the
children, widows and handicapped.
THE ST. FRANCIS MISSION CLUB will sponsor a drive from
January 31 through February 22 for Birthright Crisis Pregnancy
Center, Hutchinson. New baby and toddler clothing is needed.
Please no food or formula. Please place your donation in the box in
in the gather area.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The St. Pius X Catholic Vacation
Bible School will be June 8-11 from 8:15 - 11:45 a.m. Our theme this
year is "Immaculate Mary: The Story of St. Bernadette and Our Lady
of Lourdes." CVBS is for students who have completed Grades K-6.
VIRTUS-trained adult volunteers are needed. If you can help, please
contact Sue Mielke at 320-395-2571
PLEASE JOIN THE St. Pius X Mothers' Group on Saturday,
February 14, for Loving Our Husbands: Taking Care of the Men Who
Take Care of Us. Our presenter, Eileen Dummer, earned her Masters
of Art degree in Counseling and Psychotherapy from Adler Graduate
School in Richfield, MN. Eileen will address love languages,
understanding differences in male and female communication
patterns, and emotions versus values-oriented functioning. We will
begin by praying the rosary at 9:00 a.m. in the church. Our meeting
will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the basement meeting room. All women of
the parish are welcome. Call Sue Mielke at 320-395-2571 for more
information.

St. Pius X School News
WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK all of those who brought in cereal
during Catholic Schools Week. We collected 88 pounds of cereal that
was donated to the Food Shelf.
GOOD NEWS FROM ST. PIUS X SCHOOL: As you know
Ms. Meaghan Rasset is on leave until after Easter. We have been
blessed by having Ms. Connie Heitz as a long term substitute for the
first half of her leave. We have been searching for a second half
substitute since October with very little luck. It is a great joy to
announce that Sr. Annette Reedy, SSND, has accepted the position
for the second half of Ms. Rasset’s absence. Sr. Annette comes to us
with more than 30 years of teaching experience and we thank her, her
community and God for this blessing for our school.
CATHOLIC UNITED FINANCIAL RAFFLE: Raffle tickets are
on sale through March 8. Please stop before and after Masses to
purchase your tickets! 100% of the $5 ticket cost remains right here
at St. Pius X Catholic School! So far we have collected $1,565.00.
Our goal is $11,000!

of children celebrating their First Communion this spring will have
their mandatory and required meeting today, February 8, at 2:00 p.m.

CONFIRMATION CANDIDATE AND PARENT SESSION ON
WEDNESDAY: Candidates for Confirmation and their parents will
have their next session with Fr. Tony on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in
the lower level of the Church of the Holy Family in Silver Lake.
PICK UP YOUR DIRECTORY: If you have not picked up your
directory you may do so by stopping by the Holy Family parish office
during Bobbi’s office hours, and at the Holy Trinity and St. Pius X
parish offices during regular business hours. In order to keep track of
who has received their directories, we ask that you pick your
directory up at your own parish. For those who did not participate in
the process, but who would like a directory they are available in
parish offices at the cost of $10.00.
HOLY FAMILY/ST. PIUS X YOUTH GROUP TRIP TO WOW
ZONE: The Holy Family/St. Pius X Youth Group will be travelling
to the Wow Zone in Mankato for their mid-winter outing. The bus
will leave from the St. Pius X parking lot at 2:00 p.m. and we will
return around 8:00 p.m. Members may invite a friend for this event.
Materials for the trip were distributed at religious education classes
on Wednesday evening. Please turn in your permission slips no later
than Wednesday, February 11.
BISHOP LUCKER LECTURE ANNOUNCED: The 2015 Bishop
Lucker Lecture and Diocesan Distinguished Service Award
Ceremony will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015, at
the Church of St. Catherine in Redwood Falls. The featured speaker
will be Fr. Raymond de Souza. His talk will be on “The Future of
Religious Liberty in America.” Fr. de Souza was ordained a Catholic
priest on July 20, 2002, for the Archdiocese of Kingston, Ontario. He
currently serves as chaplain at Newman House, the Roman Catholic
chaplaincy at Queen’s University. He is the pastor of Sacred Heart of
Mary Parish on Wolfe Island where he currently lives. Fr. de Souza
teaches at Queen’s in the faculty of education and the economics
department. He is a longstanding weekly columnist for the National
Post, and contributes a weekly column to The Catholic Register,
Canada’s largest Catholic newspaper. He is the editor-in-chief of
Convivium, a magazine examining the role of faith in our common
life. All adult parishioners are invited free of charge. A social time
will follow the ceremony and the presentation.
RIVERBEND TEC: The next TEC weekend will be in Bird Island
the weekend of March 21-23. It is a great time to get away from the
routine and rush of everyday life and look at your relationship with
God, your goals and how you might grow in your life as a Christian.
If you would like more information on TEC, please contact Elaine
Kahle at 320-495-5625 or check the TEC website at
www.riverbendtec.org.
NEXT WEEK we will take up the Collection for the Church in
Central and Eastern Europe. This collection supports Catholic
organizations that provide affordable shelter and train seminarians in
a region that still struggles from the effects of Soviet rule. By
providing pastoral care, catechesis, and funding for building
renovations, your donations help to restore the Church and build
the future in the region. Please give generously to the collection
next week. Visit www.uscb.org (search “Church in Central and
Eastern Europe”) to learn more.
