High School Career Coach Full-Time Grant Funded Position #R0009 Danville Community College invites applications for a full-time 12-month High School Career Coach. This full-time grant-funded position will report to the Director of Career Pathways and Placement at Danville Community College. The career coach will be working in area high schools within the DCC service region during the school year and on the community college campus during summer months. This is a professional position working closely with high school personnel, community college stakeholders, and business/industry to help secondary students easily transition to postsecondary education and successful career pathways. The position will: • • • • • • • Serve as a community college academic advisor and career advisor for assigned high school students and will work with assigned high school students who are in the middle majority academically, low-income, first generation college students, minority, underserved populations, students who lack a clearly defined academic and career plan, and any combination of the above mentioned criteria. Relate career information to students regarding postsecondary education, labor market information, and training. Will administer career assessments and work intensively to help students create academic and career plans to ensure a clear path to successful post-secondary training and access to a high demand career field. Provide students with business and industry experiences such as but not limited to: part time jobs, job shadowing, internships, business/industry presentations at school, and industry tours. Will help students in the job search process, creating and maintenance of a resume, and filling out of job applications. Will prepare students for the interview process and will offer students mock interview experiences with local business/industry partners. Work to effectively engage and include parents in the postsecondary planning process. Will aid in the completion of FAFSA forms, scholarship forms, and college applications. Will provide parents information on local business/industry opportunities for students. Will have one-on-one parent meetings and will also host parent workshops. Work at the community college campus when high school is not in session to continually follow-up with assigned students who are recent high school graduates. Will work with these students to ensure smooth transition to postsecondary training opportunities at the college and to business/industry experiences. Will also maintain contact with assigned students who are still in high school to expose these students to post-secondary opportunities as well as to business/industry experiences. Other duties as needed by community college. Provide students, parents, and secondary/postsecondary staff and faculty with community college and transitional program information. Work effectively with high school students and parents of high school students. • • • • • • Work effectively with high school administrators, faculty, and guidance counselors. Work effectively with local and regional business/industry partners. Work effectively with community college staff, faculty, administrators, and VCCS system office staff. Will be part of a High School Career Coach team with the flexibility to move between assigned high schools as needed. Collect and maintain student outcome data. Will provide the college with monthly data reports and more frequently if needed. Establish local outcome criteria in collaboration with the community college, VCCS system office, and assigned school system. Will be required to attend training sessions mandated by the VCCS System Office as well as trainings mandated by DCC. Will be required to participate in various DCC campus activities throughout the year. Perform other duties as assigned by the community college. Be committed to the community college mission. Qualifications: Minimum requirements are an Associate’s degree and relevant work experience. Preferred qualifications include business/industry work experience, career planning experience, post-secondary and academic advising experience, and/or Bachelor’s degree.
