Holi Mahotsav 2015 – Living in Harmony
THE PROJECT
The current project for which the sponsorship is sort is Interfaith Symposium and Concert and Holi
Mahotsav 2015
28 March 2015 Holi Mahotsav and Interfaith Symposium and Concert - Prayers and lectures by
religious heads, musical and cultural concert, celebrating and promoting multiculturalism through
dance, music, and colour.
It includes traditional Rath Yatra (Festival of Chariots), this time expanded with two chariots. Starting
from Darling Harbour, strolling through the main streets of Sydney and returning to Tumbalong Park,
Darling Harbour.
Delicious vegetarian food and merchandise stalls operate on both the days of the festival.
ABOUT ORGANISER
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Australia (Bhavan Australia) was set up in Sydney in 2003. Since its
launch on 30 August 2003, Bhavan Australia has undertaken a large number of activities related to
Indian culture and promoting multiculturalism, peace building and nonviolent communication in
Australia.
The major annual events:
Many governments and local councils in Australia consider Bhavan Australia as an ambassador of the
Indian culture in Australia and approach us for showcase Indian culture in their multicultural festivals
and events.

Holi Mahotsav in Darling Harbour - in first weekend (over two days) of March / April every

Interfaith prayer meeting - every year on 30 January at the Parliament House, Sydney. Every
year religious leaders from diverse religions are invited to recite their respective peace
prayers. New dates TBC.
Nonviolence Month – A project under ICON Australia – It was launched on 2 October 2014
at UNSW and was concluded with Nonviolence concert on 1 November 2014 at SGI
Auditorium in Olympic Park.
The International Day of Nonviolence - the birth anniversary of Gandhi on 2 October every
year which has been declared by the United Nations as the International Day of Nonviolence
from 2007
The essay competition "The Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi philosophies today in the
context of: social responsibility, or world peace, or environment".
Cricket Masala – A Combination of Cricket & Culture amongst the South Asian communities
was introduced in April 2006. This event has now expanded and there are 12 teams from 12
different heritages (over two days) and Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia have joined in as

Small Business & Cultural Awards introduced in 2007 to be held in May every Year.

World Culture Concert & Arts Festival - October every year, Sydney Town Hall, Supported by
City if Sydney. This event is discontinued for the time being. New dates TBC. The mini
version was presented on 1 Nov 2014 to conclude the Nonviolence month at Olympic Park.
ABOUT HOLI MAHOTSAV
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Australia celebrates Holi Mahotsav each year at darling Harbour since 2003.
Holi Mahotsav 2015 will be thirteen years of celebration.
Holi Mahotsav is a grand and unique festival of colour, friendship and harmony. It attracts a diverse
cross section of Australians and each year is growing in popularity, more than 60,000 people enjoyed
the spectacle of Holi Mahotsav last year of which of this more than 60% were from Indian
subcontinent / South Asian communities.
A mixture of cultures come together under one banner to experience the ability of people to unite
and transcend boundaries of race, caste, culture, age and gender or simply rejoice in the array of
cultural performances.

had Zaika; Holi Mahotsav 2014 had Arts Exhibition; In 2015 we are introducing Interfaith
Symposium and Concert.

There are continuous non-stop performances with over a thousand performers throughout
the two days of the festival where South East Asian communities participate
•
There are food stalls and merchandize stalls available during the festival, on Saturday a big
procession takes places on the streets of Sydney and there is the famous colour throwing where
people from all over the world including South East Asians participate
