When it was evening, after
sunset, they brought to him all
who were ill or possessed by
demons. The whole town was
gathered at the door. He cured
many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out
many demons, not permitting
them to speak because they
knew him. - Mk 1:32-34

THE PASTOR’S CORNER
Reconciliation (also known as Confession) is a
Sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ in His love and
mercy to offer sinners forgiveness for offenses committed
against God. The forgiveness of sins involves four main
parts: contrition, confession, penance and absolution:
♦
♦
♦
♦
Contrition: being sincerely sorry for having offended
God is probably the most important act of the penitent.
There can be no forgiveness of sin if we do not express sorrow and a resolve not to repeat our
sin.
Confession: confronting our sins in a profound way by admitting them aloud to God through
the priest.
Penance: an important part of the healing process, the penance is imposed by the priest as the
means for us to make reparation for our sins.
Absolution: the priest speaks the words by which “God, the Father of Mercies” reconciles us sinners - to Himself through the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Guidelines for Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation:
1. Spend some time in preparation prior to entering the confessional. Use the time for an
Examination of Conscience. After you have reviewed your sins, it is recommended that you
say the Act of Contrition prior to entering the confessional.
2. When entering the confessional, remember that reconciliation may be face to face or
anonymous with a screen between you and the priest. That is your choice.
3. Make the sign of the cross and say Bless me Father, for I have sinned. My last confession
was…” (weeks, months or years).
4. Confess your sins and when you are finished say “I am sorry for these and all of my
sins.”
5. The priest will assign you a penance and may offer any additional advice to help you be a
better Catholic.
6. Then the priest, acting in the person of Christ, will absolve you from your sins and instruct
you to go in peace.
As Lent approaches, take advantage of the opportunities that the Sacrament of Reconciliation
provides.
God Bless.

The Good News Keeps Coming
Ambassador’s Club
The Campaign for the Church Alive
submitted its final parish campaign
results for all 199 parishes. We were
pleasantly surprised to find out that the
pledge numbers increased for both
OLMBS and STJ Parishes.
OLMBS had a target of $1,030,000 of which
$963,145 has been realized. That is 94% of the target.
We had already known that STJ had exceeded its
target of $275,000 however the pledge figure has
increased to $291,555. That is a 104% response.
God is great and so are all of you!
The Ambassador’s Club will meet Tuesday,
February 10th from 11:45 am to 3:00 pm at the LPH
Social Hall for the February Luncheon. Requested
donation for luncheon is $7. Call Mary Lou at 724212-6062 for reservations and information. All
seniors welcome.
