The English translation of the Psalm Responses from the Lectionary for
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Soon Catholics will celebrate the greatest event in the history of
the world: the Easter Triduum, when we remember Our Lord's
Last Supper, His suffering and death on the Cross for our salvation, and His Glorious Resurrection on Easter Sunday. These
events changed the course of history and made possible a way
of life unlike any other. Through these events our loving God
showed that He wants us to live joyfully and in peace with
those around us.
But we know that our lives are not always joy-filled or as God
wants them to be. We are often hurt by others or by our own
actions and words, and we hurt those around us, also those we
love. Sometimes we even forget God in our lives. But God is a
merciful God, who is quick to forgive and who desires our happiness.
In order to both prepare for the upcoming Holy Days of the
Easter Triduum as well as to reconcile ourselves to God and
neighbor, the Church has always celebrated the Season of Lent,
the 40 days leading up to Easter. Lent is a time for us to consider the ways we have not fully given our lives to God and to
those around us and how this can be changed. It is a time to
experience the mercy of God and ask for His forgiveness.
During this Lenten Season, every Catholic Parish in the Diocese of Venice will be open for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) on Friday evenings from 5-7pm and Saturday mornings from 9-11am. Whether you r egular ly go to
Confession or you haven't been in decades, I encourage you to
make this Season an opportunity to receive the mercy of God in
a new way and to find healing and joy in His great Sacrament.
Please take time at this website to learn more about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to answer any questions you might
have about it.
Be assured of my prayers for you and your family,
In Christ,
+Frank Dewane

Last October, the Third Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops was celebrated
in Rome addressing the topic: The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of
Evangelization. Following the event, Pope Francis decided to publish the Relatio Synodi, the
document that concluded the Synod’s work. The Holy Father also indicated that this document
would be the Lineamenta (working document) for the upcoming XIV Ordinary General Assembly of
the Synod of Bishops which will take place October 4-25, 2015 in Rome, addressing the topic: The
Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World.
At the end of the Lineamenta, a series of questions are proposed for reflection in order to prepare
for the upcoming Synod. Pope Francis, through the national conferences of bishops, has
requested that consultation be given with input from the Local Church. For this purpose, Bishop
Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice in Florida, has communicated with the Pastors,
Parochial Administrators, and Parochial Vicars of the Diocese asking for their observations made
in consultation with their local Parish councils and other parish groups. Bishop Dewane invites all
other Catholics who wish to submit responses to do so by following the steps below.
The responses from the Diocese of Venice will be gathered with those of other dioceses by the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and forwarded to the Secretary General of the
Synod of Bishops for the Holy See.
—This letter is taken from the Diocese of Venice website www.dioceseofvenice.org
In putting together our report to send to the Diocese, we need your feedback. This one way you can
have a voice in our Universal Church. For the next three weeks, we will put four questions in the
bulletin and ask you to respond to one or more of the questions by e-mailing Lea, Director of Religious
Education at Resurrection. Lea’s e-mail is [email protected]
5. What can be done to show that the family has many unique aspects for experiencing the joys of human
existence?
6. How can people be helped to understand that no one is beyond the mercy of God? How can this truth be
expressed in the Church’s pastoral activity towards families, especially those which are wounded and
fragile?
7. In the case of those who have not yet arrived at a full understanding of the gift of Christ’s love, how can
the faithful express a friendly attitude and offer trustworthy guidance without failing to proclaim the demands of the Gospel? (cf. n. 24)
8. What can be done so that persons in the various forms of union between a man and a woman — in
which human values can be present — might experience a sense of respect, trust and encouragement to
grow in the Church’s good will and be helped to arrive at the fullness of Christian marriage?
If you would rather reply to all of the questions that Pope Francis is asking in the Lineamenta, you can
find the complete document at http://dioceseofvenice.org/synod-consultation/ on this web site you will
also find instructions to reply directly to the diocese.

The following article is taken from the Lineamenta in which Pope Francis invites all of the Faithful to
answer questions about our Holy Church. The full article can be read by following the link on the Diocese of Venice web site, www.dioceseofvenice.org
The Indissolubility of Marriage and the Joy of Sharing Life Together
“Authentic married love is caught up into divine love and is governed and enriched by Christ's redeeming
power and the saving activity of the Church, so that this love may effectively lead the spouses to God and
may aid and strengthen them in the sublime mission of being father and mother. For this reason, Christian
spouses have a special sacrament by which they are fortified and receive a kind of consecration in the duties and dignity of their state. By virtue of this sacrament, as spouses fulfil their conjugal and family obligation, they are penetrated with the spirit of Christ, which suffuses their whole lives with faith, hope and charity. Thus they increasingly advance the perfection of their own personalities, as well as their mutual sanctification, and hence contribute jointly to the glory of God” (Gaudium et Spes, 48).
5. What can be done to show that the family has many unique aspects for experiencing the joys
of human existence?
The Truth and Beauty of the Family and Mercy Towards Wounded and Fragile Families
After having considered the beauty of successful marriages and strong families and shown appreciation for
the generous witness of those who remain faithful to the bonds of marriage, even when abandoned by their
spouses, the Pastors at the Synod asked themselves — in an open and courageous manner but not without
concern and caution — how the Church is to regard Catholics who are united in a civil bond, those who simply live together and those who, after a valid marriage, are divorced and remarried civilly.
Aware of the obvious limitations and imperfections present in many different situations, the synod fathers
assumed the positive outlook indicated by Pope Francis, according to which “without detracting from the
evangelical ideal, they need to accompany with mercy and patience the eventual stages of personal growth
as these progressively occur.”(Evangelii Gaudium, 44).
6. How can people be helped to understand that no one is beyond the mercy of God? How can
this truth be expressed in the Church’s pastoral activity towards families, especially those which
are wounded and fragile?
7. In the case of those who have not yet arrived at a full understanding of the gift of Christ’s
love, how can the faithful express a friendly attitude and offer trustworthy guidance without
failing to proclaim the demands of the Gospel? (cf. n. 24)
8. What can be done so that persons in the various forms of union between a man and a woman
— in which human values can be present — might experience a sense of respect, trust and encouragement to grow in the Church’s good will and be helped to arrive at the fullness of Christian marriage?
Please e-mail Lea, Director of Religious Education, [email protected] with your answers to these four pertinent questions Pope Francis asks.

Being Involved and Supportive, Bearing Fruit and Rejoicing
THE FIRST STEP AS A COMMUNITY OF MISSIONARY DISCIPLES
Pope Francis’ Joy of the Gospel
The believer is
essentially
“one who
remembers.”
#13 - Joy of the Gospel
“Convinced that Jesus communicates new life to those who believe in Him, and that He was raised from the
dead in order that we might live, we are united to the risen Lord as a people born anew to a life of hope.”
MISSION OF CHURCH OF RESURRECTION
LONG-TIME PARISHIONERS SHARE THEIR STORIES OF HOPE...BELIEVERS WHO REMEMBER!
JERRY & MAUREEN COPELAND - Maureen remembers
before Resurrection was a parish. Msgr. did her Pre-Cana and
baptized her daughter, Christine. Maureen taught the
Confirmation class. Her favorite Resurrection memory was being
on the front lawn outside the old building on Easter
Sunday celebrating Mass. Jerry thanks God for the priests who
are caring, down-to-earth individuals. They helped his family in
all kinds of situations. The priests make sure we know that God is
present to us.
DICK O’CONNELL is a member since 1979 . He sees the
parish as a big family with many opportunities to get involved.
He remembers Msgr. calling young couples together and
cooking them dinner at his house. This group still gathers
today. Before Daniels was a paved road, a parish hayride
symbolized his hope is that all will find support through the parish. Dick and his wife, Joann are members of TEAMS OF OUR
LADY. He also works with his son, Brian for FAITH & ALE
presentations at the parish.
CANDI SPERONI joined the par ish about 5 year s ago after
seeing a pamphlet which seemed welcoming. Getting to know
people and seeing the priests around encourages her. She participates in the Women’s Guild and Craft Club. Her gift of art is given in the many wreaths she creates.
LORETTA WEBER loves volunteer ing. She is a positive
thinker and is always happiest when she is helping people. She
volunteers every Friday at Gulf Coast Hospital as well as in the
parish. She is grateful for the support she received after her husband, Don, a longtime president of the Men’s Club passed away.
“You never give up.” is her motto.
CARRIE BLAIR is car e-giver for her mother, Jennie
Truncale. She feels blessed to be a part of this parish and
appreciates the support of the community. She was surprised and
delighted that her mom received a rose for every year on her
108th birthday this year.
JOHN & JOAN LEANZA look for war d to coming to chur ch.
Joan is President of the Women’s Guild and John is her support
as he helps her set-up when needed. Both of them enjoy friends
they meet in the parish and John met some good golfers too!
ROSEMARY SCHIFINI gives help whenever she can. She
works with crafts and the Women’s Guild. She enjoys the Christmas Breakfast and working with small groups to support and
make friendships among parishioners.
JOE & SHIRLEY HALIZAK ar r ived in 2002 and they like
lots of laughs, good and sincere camaraderie among
parishioners. Joe is spiritual director for the Men’s Club and
helped with Religious Education classes. Both use their time to
give back to the parish for the goodness of God’s blessings.
PAT & KATHY GALLIGAN feel blessed to be involved.
Kathy is Treasurer of the Women’s Guild; she take Eucharist to
the homebound parishioners and serves on the Welcome
Committee. Pat has helped with projects in Religious Education
and has been a sacristan. It is important for them to participate in
the faith life of the parish.
JANE BROWN - a parishioner for 27 years says,
“It’s the people!” The Angel Tree was one of her first
projects, now younger woman have taken that project. The
Woman’s Guild is her community of friends at Resurrection. Her
husband Dan died six years ago but he was Captain of the Ushers.. John Patterson now does a fine job, says Jane. Helping gives
her joy!
“I invite all Christians, everywhere,
at this very moment, to a renewed personal
encounter with Jesus Christ, ... no one is
excluded from the joy brought by the Lord.”

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM BISHOP DEWANE
REGARDING THE CURRENT FLU SITUATION All parishes/missions/chapels in the Diocese of Venice in Florida are being
asked to take the following precautions to help mitigate the spread and effects
of the Flu.
The faithful should be encouraged to share the Sign of Peace without touching
hands. This can be done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, and a bow of the
head in reverence to another.
Please note: the “Sign of Peace” is optional in the celebration of the Mass as
the rubrics indicate.
Regarding the Precious Blood, at this point individuals have the choice as to
whether or not they are comfortable receiving the Precious Blood
at this time. Parishes may decide to discontinue reception under both species at
Communion.
Priests, deacons and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are especially reminded of the need to practice good hygiene. All Ministers of Holy Communion are encouraged to wash their hands before Mass begins and after
Mass.
The faithful are encouraged not to hold hands during the reciting of Our Father.
Parishioners should not come to Mass when they are not feeling well.
Until the Flu season has passed, these guidelines should be followed.
Continuously updated information is available from the CDC at
