Join us for lunch! Bring a blanket and picnic
with your son or daughter on the grass field
(grades 1-5) or in the kinder area (kindergarten students). All families
are welcome! We will have a regular lunch schedule and be offering a
SPECIAL BIG DADDY’S PIZZA LUNCH! Children and parents can choose to
enjoy a slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza, salad bar, fruit, and milk or
juice – Just $2.75 per child and $4.50 per adult. Students may purchase
lunch through their regular lunch accounts. To expedite service, we
highly recommend exact change, please. You may purchase lunch at
school or bring your own. Either way, we sure hope to see you then!
Please be sure to take a trip through the MPR and visit our wonderful
Book Fair and Art Show. You will be dazzled and amazed by what you
find!

Grab your swimsuit and snorkel mask and dive into the Scholastic Book Fair Under the Sea! Our
annual book fair is the perfect opportunity to add some new books to your family library and
benefit your teacher’s classroom library at the same time. For every $1.00 you spend at the
Book Fair, Deer Canyon will get up to $0.60 back in books! The proceeds of this year’s Book
Fair will go to the teachers, allowing your child’s teacher to replenish their classroom libraries
with the latest and greatest!

On April 3, 2015, Deer Canyon will be hosting our 3�� annual Wellness Day. On
this day, all of our children will participate in a variety of activities designed to
foster healthy living, good nutrition, and exercise. Morning activities will
include classroom instructional activities and our annual Jog-A-Thon. We will be enjoying a school-wide
picnic lunch from 11:00-11:30am. Finally, our students will be participating in a two and a half hour
Health Expo from 11:30am – 2:00pm. During this time, groups of children will rotate through twelve 10minute stations, each focusing on healthy eating, physical exercise, and nutrition and health
information. Our goal is to provide students with information to help them make good choices about
nutrition and diet. It’s a great event!
We are currently recruiting presenters for the Health Expo. Do you have a
passion or talent in the world of athletics? Are you a master chef? Do you enjoy
talking with children about health and wellness? We can use your help! Please

our Health Expo.
The PTA is bringing Playground Partners to Deer Canyon recess!! The program began
this past Tuesday, February 3��. This program, run by YMCA coach Dan Lauzon, is
designed to provide a customized outdoor program that builds self-confidence,
models effective communication and conflict resolution skills, and encourages
positive behavior on the playground. Coach Dan will be offering a variety of activities throughout the ten
week program to accomplish these goals during recess.
Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, and Extended Family: According to the YMCA's experience with other
PUSD schools, the success of this program is multiplied when volunteers can be on campus to assist
Coach Dan in leading activities. If you enjoy being outdoors, and interacting with kids, this is a great
opportunity for you!
We'd love to have volunteers this Tuesday (2/10) or Thursday (2/12) from 9:45 to 11 am on whichever
day fits your schedule best. If you like it and have the time to return in following weeks, please let Coach
Dan know. If a weekly commitment is just not possible that's fine too. We'll take what we can get!
Volunteers should sign in in the office when they arrive, and meet Coach Dan on the playground at 9:45
a.m.
