Associate Professor Tom Snukis Tom currently serves as an associate professor in the Joint and Combined Warfighting School (JCWS) at National Defense University’s Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) in Norfolk, Virginia. His duties at JCWS include Seminar Team Leader for one of three senior seminars and elective lead for the Stability Operations elective. Prior to his current position, Tom served in the United States Army in a variety of infantry, airborne, and ranger assignments. During his 30-year career he was a commander and staff officer at multiple levels both in the United States and overseas. He also served as an Exchange Officer to the British Parachute Regiment where he commanded a Heavy Weapons Support Company in the British Army. His final operational tour was as the Chief of Staff, Combined Forces Command – Afghanistan during the 2003/2004 timeframe and his final tour in the military was as an instructor and then assistant professor in the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS) within JFSC. He departed active duty in 2008 and transitioned immediately to his current position. Tom earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the United States Army Command and General Staff College and the United States Army War College. While at the United States Army Command and General Staff College, he earned a Masters of Military Arts and Science degree. Tom is currently pursuing a PhD in International Studies from Old Dominion University. Tom has a number of areas of interest and expertise. They include: Operational Design and Planning, Decision-making, Creative and Critical Thinking, Multi-National Operations, Staff Management/Coordination, Stability Planning and Concepts, Leadership and Tactical Training/Team Building
