Established in 1979, Family Shelter is the only agency in the Midlands that provides emergency
shelter services to homeless children and their families. Before the Family Shelter's

Family Shelter works with homeless families to give them another option in their time of crisis.
Our Mission:
To provide emergency shelter in a stable living environment for homeless children and their

resources to encourage long-term independence. Our specific programs are:
Emergency Shelter:
We provide emergency shelter for up to 120 days for 15 families at a time. Our residents live in a
dorm-style setting where 2-4 family members live in one furnished room and share a hall-access
bathroom with families. We supply up to three meals a day as well as afternoon snacks to all of
our residents.
Support Services:
Case Management - All parents to attend weekly case management meetings to help keep them
on track and ensure incremental progress in finding housing and employment. In addition to
supporting the housing and employment search, case management is also the means through
which we offer a variety of other resource referrals for our residents.
Individual & Family Counseling: Homeless parents and children experience an enormous
amount of daily stress and uncertainty. Our LPC Family Services Director is available to meet
with parents or children or an entire family to offer emotional and psychological support during
their stay at Family Shelter.
Enrichment Services
In addition to family support services, we offer many enrichment activities to help parents and
children learn and grow and become more prepared to thrive when they leave our shelter.
Ongoing enrichment programs include parent education, homework help, monthly teen outings,
weekly storytime, music classes, and access to an onsite library.
The Candidate
The Family Shelter is searching for a new Executive Director. The successful candidate will
