Ehlanzeni TVET College
PURPOSE
The purpose of Ehlanzeni TVET College is to provide program-based vocational and occupational training within the further
education and training band in order to respond to the human resource, economic and development needs of South Africa.

NATIONAL CERTIFICATE (VOCATIONAL)
The Department of Education introduced the National Certificate (Vocational) at public Further Education and Training (FET)
in 2007. The NC (V) offers programmes of study in a variety of vocational fields. The programmes are intended to directly
respond to the priority skills demand of the South African economy.
The National Certificate(Vocational) is offered at levels 2, 3 and 4 of the National Qualification Framework (NQF). The
qualification is designed to provide both theory and practical experience in all vocational fields. The practical component of
the study may be offered in the workplace or simulated workplace environment. Students have the opportunity to
experience work situation during the period of study.
There are currently 9 vocational programmes on offer.
In order to facilitate access to the National Certificate (Vocational), the Department of Higher Education and Training has set
aside a budget for bursaries. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) administers the bursaries on behalf of the
Department of Higher Education and Training.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
NQF Level 2 requires:
• A year-end school report for Grade 9, 10, 11 or Grade 12 certificate
• An NQF Level 1 qualification
• Competency and placement test is compulsory

Report 191 (NATED) programs are offered in the afternoons from 14:30
OCCUPATIONAL LEARNING PROGRAMMES
The programmes offered at Ehlanzeni TVET College are either full qualifications or as accredited skills
programmes. The focus of these programmes is geared towards preparing students for specific skills within a
specific working environment related to a specific trade. These include apprenticeship, learnership and skills
programmes.
Learnership are based on legally binding agreement between an employer, a student and a training provider.
Learnerships that are offered by the college combines theory at the College or Training centre with relevant
practice on-the-job. It is designed to ensure the quality of the training and to protect the interests of each
individual party in order to become qualified, students must be assessed against unit standards registered with
SAQA.
Skills programmes are unit-standard-based programmes that are demand-driven as determined by community
needs.
They are unit standards programmes extracted from formal full qualifications registered with SAQA for which the
college offers in partnership with the relevant SETA or Accrediting Body.
