THE beams and the scorching heat of Champions
Insurance Company really blazed in the insurance
galaxy last year. So bright was the sun of Champions
that it was the only one churning out revolutionary
product after revolutionary product and in all fairness
none could compete.
To those not in the know (how would be a mystery) of
Champions Insurance Company, which is the darling
of Zimbabwe when it comes to insurance, Champions
has done it again. Yearly, Champions runs a
promotion meant to be of benefit to its lucky clients.

some fortunate people began the year 2015 on a
high. Unsuspecting clients got a lifetime surprise
when they were phoned and advised that they had
won in the “Insure, Scratch and Win” promotion.

24 January 2015, Machipisa Post office was the place
to be as the grand draw kicked off. It was one of pomp
and fanfare. Bumper crowds came in support of
Champions as well as to witness the big event.
Dancehall star, Tocky Vibes had the crowd in euphoria
as he belted hit after hit to a charged atmosphere. It
was quite ironic that he headlined the festivities since
“Champions yaenda nenyika, iChampions ihambe
ngelizwe, Champions has taken the country by
storm!”
The grand prizes included tablets, 5.5 kilovolt
generators and 40 inch LED televisions! There were
lots of instant prizes including t-shirts, caps, premium
discounts and umbrellas. All one had to do was to
spend at least US$30 on any Champions Insurance
product or pay full annual premiums on any product
and simply scratch to find out which instant prize they
had won. The idea has always been to give back in a
fun way. Moreso, to enrich the lives of the valued

This was encouraging to see and showed that there
are some Zimbabwean firms that are recognised and
being appreciated for the hours that they put in and
the sweat involved from braining to birth relevant

galore boosted the mood of the festivities. Staff from

order was present. The sheer turn out of the staff in
itself reflects the desire to meet the people from all
walks of life and locations.

Mandiwanzira was Permanent Secretary of
Information Communication and Technology, Postal
and Courier Services Engineer S Kundishora who
delivered the address. Of note he recognised the
ingenious ways by which Champions has been
leveraging its focus by partnering with public interest
parastatals. He said “As many of you may be aware,
Zimpost has established strategic partnerships with
various companies in the private sector in its quest to
bring service and convenience to the transacting
public. One of the key strategic partners is
Champions Insurance, provider of short term
insurance services such as motor insurance, house
insurance, travel insurance and business insurance
amongst many other products”.
The crux has been for “greater convenience for
motorists as they can now insure and license their
vehicles under one roof at Zimpost offices
nationwide”. Added to this the local empowerment
drive by the government was taken cognisance of as
he commented that “Zimpost as a government
company will work with several private players in
pursuit of ZIMASSET goals.
The whole experience could not have been more
eloquently nor succinctly put. The welcome remarks
by Mr Gonese Champions Holdings Board Chairman
dropped some choice morsels of wisdom when he
said “Champions insurance and Zimpost strategic
partnership has redefined the way insurance is
distributed in Zimbabwe and therefore coined a
new insurance distribution philosophy called
“Postsurance”. This has enabled even the
remotest places such as Murambinda or
Tsholotsho to offer such first world and at the same
time necessary services right where the people
who need them the most already are. In the
closing remarks, Mr Mapondera the Board
Chairman of Champions cemented the point of
strategic partnering and innovation by saying
“Indeed, Champions Insurance Company and
Zimpost partnership is one of the best
partnerships
where
government
owned
companies engage with the private sector for the
benefit of all stakeholders in the economy”.
Insuring is important and its importance is
sometimes under-appreciated. However, there will
be a day for everyone to have a sudden misfortune

cure is regularly insuring in order to contain the
