Section Report – AGM 2014 Key achievements – July – October 2014 International     Rebecca Kamau represented Kenya at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. At 15 this is her first major games experience. Rebecca came within 0.3 seconds of making the semi final on the 50 Breaststroke and learned so much from taking part in a major profile multi sport event and mixing it with the best athletes in the world. Brittany Horton competed for Great Britain at the European Junior Championships in Dordrecht, Nederlands. She made finals in 100 bk and 4x100 medley relay and came th a very impressive 4 in her 200 bk final. Carl Grosvenor was also selected as one of 3 coaches for the team. Four City of Birmingham swimmers were selected to represent a junior England team at the Portuguese National Championships in Lisbon. The Birmingham girls dominated the distance freestyle events winning Gold and Silver in both the 400fr and 800fr. Carl Grosvenor was also selected onto the coaching staff for this team but had to turn the selection down due to European Junior team selection. We have had 2 swimmers selected to take part on the British Swimming National Event Camps. Our 2 15yr old girls will be part of a very select group of elite athletes that includes Fran Halsall, Ben Proud, James Guy, Chris Walker Hebborn and many more Commonwealth Champions, European Champions and Olympians. British National Championships    City of Birmingham had an outstanding summer championships. Our Junior team continues to develop swimmers of outstanding potential. They had another year of developing National Champions, medallists and finalists while being commended by England Talent staff on the way they win. Our performance at the National Youth Championships was beyond even my rd expectations. We finished as 3 top club in Great Britain for swimmers aged 1418yrs. We had 10 medallists and 3 separate National Champions. Good facts from our National Championship results: Our 4 National Champions came on Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke. We won National medals on 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800m distances. That is outstanding diversity. Domestic     We have in the last 2 weeks had it confirmed that we have 11 of the 23 swimmers selected for the West Midlands Beacon Programme (more than double that of any other club). We have more swimmers selected than any other club for the West Midlands development camps. We have more swimmers than any other club selected to the regional England Talent Phase 1 camp. Chloe Finch has been one of only 10 swimmers nationally selected onto the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS). TASS ENTITLES Chloe to some funding plus full use of the University of Birmingham High Performance sports support. I will be working alongside TASS and UoB to structure a weekly programme that will enhance Chloe’s current training regime. Thanks must go to the outstanding support I have had from our committee, parents, swimmers and especially Chris Littler and Adam Taylor who have a huge role with swimmer development at all levels of our programme.
