Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you for your interest in the Eureka Golden Line. The Golden Line is a performance and competitive
dance team that requires serious commitment. We take pride in our team from the 2014-2015 school year
and hope to build upon their accomplishments. This team is very dedicated and determined to make the
Eureka Golden Line a very well respected and honored team throughout the state of Missouri, and we hope
that you will help us continue this strong tradition.
Within this packet you will find the following information:
1. Tryout Information—specifics on dates, times and what to bring
2. The Golden Line Constitution and By-laws, which govern our organization. This document
contains information on cost, a tentative calendar, and expected commitments and guidelines.

Please take the time to read the entire packet carefully and be sure you have all the necessary materials
turned in prior to the first clinic by March 6, 2015. Packets received after the due date will be considered
late. You will not be able to tryout if your packet is not received the Friday before the first clinic.

Paperwork Deadline
All required paper work will be due on

You will not be allowed to tryout if your paperwork is not
turned in by the final deadline.

 The application to tryout is ONLINE!!

 You will need to give your teacher the slip with the web
address to complete the teacher recommendations. You
need at least 4 recommendations!
 You still need to submit paper copies of the permission
form, the physical, and the athletic form.
Physicals
 In order to tryout, students must have a current physical.
There are no exceptions to this rule!!
 You must attach a physical dated February 1, 2014 or later
to your application.
 You will need a physical dated February 1, 2015 or later
before summer practices begin. You will not be able to
participate in practices or performances without this new
physical.

If you are having difficulty getting in to see your doctor before the due date, check with
local chiropractors. Many will perform school/sport physicals the same day you call.

TRYOUT INFORMATION
Clinics and try-outs will be held the week of March 9-March 12, in the Eureka High Aerobics Room

Monday and Tuesday’s Clinics: you may attend both or just one.

Technique auditions are Wednesday March 11; everyone must attend.

Routine auditions are on Thursday March 12; everyone must attend.

You will tryout in a small group of 6. Groups will perform the routine several times in rotation for the
audition.

A list of the 2015-2016 team members will be posted online on the Golden Line website or through a link
posted from our Facebook page.

New members will receive a phone call regarding their placement on the team.

Teacher Recommendations: You will need a minimum of 4 recommendation forms completed and
returned from your core teachers. Recommendations must be completed by Friday March 6 and will be
completed online.

Sample Score Sheets are attached.

What To Wear To Clinics/Tryouts
CLINICS: T-shirt*, Shorts, Socks, Tennis shoes or jazz boots (no one will be allowed to participate without
shoes), No jewelry
TRYOUTS: a plain white T-shirt*, Black shorts, white socks, tennis shoes or jazz shoes/boots, no jewelry
* You are not allowed to wear any attire which would indicate that you have been a part of a pom/dance
squad, have attended any dance camps, classes or other related events.

**Inability to do any one dance element does not necessarily mean you will be cut from the team. We will be
looking for potential in dance ability.
Optional Technique Clinics
There will be two optional technique clinics held at Eureka High school on
Monday Feb 16 – 3:15-4:30
Monday Mar 2 – 3:15-4:30
Tryout routines will not be taught at this time. However, this is an opportunity to learn the types of turns,
leaps and kicks that will be expected at tryouts. Transportation will not be provided.
Please do not wear any attire that indicates participation in any pom/dance squad, dance camps, classes,
or other related events.

Eureka Golden Line Dance Team Constitution
Revised for 2015-2016 School Year
Article I: Name and Objective
1. The name of the team shall be the Eureka Golden Line.
2. The objective of the team shall be to work together as a single unit to enhance school spirit, as well as
individual pride.
3. The number of members of the team is subject to the discretion of the coaches.
Article II: Membership Requirements/ Eligibility
1. Team members should be full-time students (enrolled in 6 classes) at Eureka High School.
2. Prospective members may not be members of the cheerleading squad, other school sports, or other
activity during a season that will conflict with the dance team season.
3. Prospective members must try-out every year. There is no automatic placement on the team.
4. Members must meet all scholarship and citizenship guidelines set forth by MSHSAA, Rockwood, and
Eureka High School.
a. A current physical, dated after Feb 1 of the current year, must be on file.
b. Member must meet the MSHSAA academic requirements by passing a minimum of 6 classes per
semester.
5. Members will be selected on the following criteria:
a. Dance Technique and Skills: Kicks, Turns, Leaps
b. Routine Execution: Showmanship, Memory, Dance Technique, Precision/Sharpness
c. Coach and Teacher evaluations reflecting excellence in Attitude, Dependability, Leadership,
Cooperation, and Commitment
6. The coaches will determine at tryouts if there will be one or two teams. Varsity and Freshmen teams will
be chosen at the same tryout. The coaches will determine the members of each team based on the
execution of the above skills. Varsity and Freshmen will attend camp together. Both teams will compete;
however, only Varsity members will compete at the state and national competitions. All freshmen Golden
Line members will be placed on the Freshmen team.
7. Members must be willing to commit to the team for both football and basketball seasons.
Article III: Attendance
1. Members must attend all practices, performances, and other events unless permission is obtained from
the coach prior to the practice or performance.
2. Members are expected to be on time for all events.

3. Excused absences are as follows:
a. Personal illness or injury
b. Death or serious illness in family or other verified family emergency
c. Special school activity (make-up exams, field trips, etc) with advance approval from the coach.
d. Vacation/ College visits during non-mandatory practices with two weeks advance notice and
subject to coach approval
e. Extenuating circumstances as determined by coach

If a member is ill during the school day, she should have a note from the nurse to confirm the illness or
be excused from the coach to leave
5. Unexcused absences include, but are not limited to, the following:
a. Any absence without a prior phone call, note, or email to the coach or captain
b. Dance or music class
c. Routine doctor and dental appointments
d. Work or work related activities
e. Detentions or ISS
f.
Any other after school personal obligations such as babysitting, grounding, etc.
g. Vacation/ College visits during any performance or mandatory practice (summer or competition)
or without two weeks advance notice
i. Boot camp
ii. Week before UDA camp
iii. 8-12’s
iv. All competition week practices
h. Summer School unless credit is needed to make up a failed class
6. Members may be asked to provide a doctor’s note before an absence is excused.
7. Members must be present at school by the end of 1st hour of the school day to be eligible to participate.
Students who are absent from school for part of the day may participate with a written doctor or dentist
statement.
8. If an injury (dance or non-dance related) prevents a member from dancing, the member must obtain a
doctor’s or trainer’s release before resuming dance activities. If an injury prevents dancing, the member
must attend practices and events, and wear the uniform, unless absent from school due to the injury.
9. Excessive or lengthy excused absences may result in the member being pulled from performances.
10. Each member is required to attend the last practice before each performance or will not be allowed to
perform.

11. UDA camp: This is an opportunity for the team to get to know each other and learn a variety of routines
and improve their dance skills. This also gives the girls an opportunity to perform before other teams and
receive recognition.
a. The approximate cost is $350.
b. Members must attend the last week of practices before camp in order to perform in the home
routine.
c. Missing camp will be considered an unexcused absence from a performance.
d. Both Varsity and Freshmen will attend camp July 20-23 at Cedar Rapids, IA.
Article IV: Practices
1. The general practice schedule is as follows:
a. After school practices are held Monday thru Thursday from 3:15 - 5:30.
b. Mandatory competition practices will be held from 6-8 p.m. the week before the competition.
c. Summer Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 a.m.
d. Mandatory practices are held the two weeks prior to school starting on Monday - Friday 8 –noon.
e. New Members are required to attend Boot Camp which is held during Little Girl Camp from 8
am-noon.
2. Additional practices may be added as deemed necessary by the coaches.
3. Only members of the team are allowed at practice.
Article V: Performances
1. All performances are mandatory. Permission to miss a performance must be obtained from the coach
prior to the performance. It is not acceptable to miss a performance unless there are extenuating
circumstances.
2. Members are required to stay for the entire game at which the team performs, and sit with the team.
3. Members are to be on time for performances and are expected to return from breaks on time.
4. Members must attend the last practice before a performance in order to perform, even with an
excused absence.
Article VI: Financial Obligations
1. Uniforms
a. Rental - Each team member will pay a rental fee of $150 and receive the necessary team
uniforms.
b. Rental uniforms are expected returned in the same condition in which they were issued.
c. Members are expected to pay for missing uniform items.

2. Fees
a. Practice Uniforms/Personal Items - Each team member will be required to purchase practice
uniforms and personal items such as tights, hair bows, and shoes. Each member will need 4 pairs
of jazz shoes and a gym bag (approx. $40). In addition, game day warm-ups will cost
approximately $135.
b. Payment due dates for fees will be staggered from March through August. Members may pay in
full at any time. A list of due dates will be distributed at the first spring meeting.
c. Fees must be paid prior to the beginning of school.
d. No one will be denied participation based on ability to pay. Payment arrangements can be made
on an individual basis. Fundraising opportunities are also available.
e. The varsity team may attend the UDA nationals competition in early 2016. The approximate cost
is $1000, but there are MANY fundraising opportunities.
f.
Members should be aware that if she resigns or is dismissed from the squad, she is still
responsible for fees accrued and items ordered. Refunds will not be given to members who quit
or are removed from the squad.
3. Fundraisers
a. Members will participate in fundraisers for the cost of uniforms, competitions, travel expenses,
the banquet, and other necessities for the team.
b. Little Girl Camp is our biggest and most important fundraiser. All members are expected to
participate.
c. Members who refuse to participate in fundraisers will be charged a non-participation fee based
on the average of what each girl earned for that fundraiser. Other consequences may be
determined by the coaches.
Article VII: Rules of Conduct
1. The following rules shall govern the conduct of members IN and OUT of uniform
a. The Athletic Code of Conduct and school and district rules apply.
b. The uniform and school it represents will be respected at all times.
c. Members will give their complete cooperation to coaches, officers, and other members.
d. Members’ attitudes will be that of pride and willingness to give up personal desires for the
benefit of the team.
e. Members will have the responsibility to lend support to all Golden Line activities.
f.
No members will be guilty of attracting undesirable attention or disrespect by wearing
inappropriate accessories or behaving in an undignified manner.
2. Failure to abide by the above code will result in temporary or permanent loss of membership.

3. Golden Line members are subject to these rules of conduct as long as they are a member of the dance
team, from tryouts to the end of the season.
Article VIII: Status
A. Cut/Alternate
1. All members must meet the standard of excellence set by the coaches in order to perform. Routine
placement is done by the coaches, at times with the help of the captain(s) and or choreographers.
2. Membership on the team does not guarantee the privilege of performing at any games, assemblies, or
competitions.
3. Members must try out for every routine/performance. Members not meeting the standards set by the
coaches will not be placed in the routine for that performance.
4. If a member is not placed in a routine, the member is still required to wear the uniform at school, attend
the performance in warm-ups, and sit with the team.
5. Members who miss a mandatory competition or camp practice will not perform at that competition or
in the camp home routine.
B. Benched/Suspended
1. Members will be benched or suspended for the following offenses:
a. Second unexcused absence from performance
b. First instance of In School Suspension (ISS)
c. Insubordination or disrespectful behavior towards coaches, captains, or teammates
d. Insubordinate or disrespectful behavior towards teachers, administrators, or other members of
the school community.
e. Earning 6 demerit points. Member may be benched for each subsequent demerit earned.
f.
Failure to maintain a 2.0 GPA and/or 1’s in conduct or effort on report cards.
g. Any other serious behavior deemed unbecoming of a Golden Line member and a role model.
2.
The number of benched performances and/or the duration of a suspension will be determined by the
coaches.
3. Members who are benched are still required to wear the uniform at school, attend the performance in
warm-ups, and sit with the team.
4.
Members who are suspended are not allowed to attend any practice, performance, or event until the end
of the suspension period.

C. Removed/Terminated from Team
1. Members will be removed from the team for the following offenses:
a. Using alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs or participating in stealing or vandalism, thereby violating
Eureka’s Athletic Code of Conduct and MSHSAA rules. This applies both in and out of the dance
team season.
b. Second instance of In School Suspension (ISS)
c. Assignment of Out of School Suspension (OSS)
d. Third unexcused absence from performance
e. Third benching or Second suspension from team
f.

Earning 9 demerit points
Members who are removed or who quit the squad will not be allowed to tryout the following year.
Article IX: Demerits
1. Demerits will be issued at the coaches’ discretion.
2. Members will receive demerit points for any of the following:
Attendance
a. Unexcused absence from performance (4)
b. Unexcused absence from practice or meeting (2)
c. Leaving practice or performance early (1)
d. Unexcused tardy to practice or meeting, or performance (including 4th quarter during games) (1)
Uniform
a. Incomplete or inappropriate uniform or appearance for practice, game day, or performance
(including poms, shoes, hair, nail polish, etc) (1)
b. Violating MSHSAA rules: chewing gum, wearing jewelry (including body piercing) or glitter, not pulling
hair back, long fingernails, pant length. (1)
c. Failure to bring proper equipment to practice/ performance OR leaving equipment at practice/
performance. This includes poms, shoes, uniforms, warm-up jacket, ribbons, music, or any other
relevant equipment (1)
d. Improper care of uniform or wearing dirty, soiled, or damaged team attire (1)
Conduct
a. Negative or uncooperative attitude with teammates, officers, or coaches (2). This includes, but is not
limited to: talking back, rolling eyes, arguing, gossiping, ignoring directions, not thanking for help or
feedback
b. Use of profane language while with the team or in uniform (1)

c. Excessive/disruptive talking or behavior at practice or performances (1)
d. Attracting undesirable attention or behaving in an undignified manner (includes public displays of
affection in uniform, excessive PDA anytime, dress code, disruptive classroom behavior) (1-2)
e. Inappropriate cellphone use at practice or performances (1)
f.
Failure to obey school rules (1-2)
g. Failure to carry out or perform required duties, keep deadlines, or not participating in group activities
(1)
h. Forgery or deliberate lying (2-6)
i.
Inappropriate online posting (1-6)
j.
Any other behavior deemed unacceptable by the coaches.
3. Members earning 5 demerits will be given a written warning.
4. Members earning 6 demerits will be benched from the next performance.
Article X: Merits
1. Merits will be awarded to offset attendance and uniform demerits and to reward positive behavior.
2. Merits will be given at the coaches’ discretion.
3. Merits cannot be used for any of the following:
a. Demerits, benching or suspension due to conduct, detentions, or ISS
b. To excuse the last practice before a performance (member still can not perform)
Article XI: Officers
1. General Description
a. The officers necessary for each squad will be determined by that squad’s coach
b. Officers must be willing to commit to duties including, but not limited to the following:
i. Be a strong leader and capable to work directly with the coach with a positive attitude.
ii. Preside over practices and meetings, making sure all members know the rules
iii. Be willing to and capable of choreographing routines
iv. Help to coordinate all fundraisers
2. Election Procedures
a. Officers will be selected in the spring either during or immediately following tryouts.
b. Officers are chosen by the coaches. The method of selection will be determined by the coaches.
3. Officers not fulfilling all responsibilities in the judgment of the coach will be removed from office.
4. Any officer who accumulates 6 demerits will be dismissed.

Article XII: Parental Involvement
1. In order to keep harmony and discipline within the team, parents must understand that the coaches will
make all final decisions.
2. Conflicts within the team must stay within the team.
3. Parental involvement is welcome, but should come in the form of suggestions and constructive advice.
a. Parents do not make any decisions regarding the team.
b. Problems and concerns are to be discussed with the coach before being discussed with the school
administration. The student should discuss concerns with the coach first.
c. Parents should respect Eureka’s “Parent/Coach Communications” policy and follow the chain of
communication to handle appropriate concerns.
4. The signing of the parental permission slip for try-outs signifies that one fully understands the terms of
the constitution, including Article XII on “Parental Involvement”, and agrees to abide by the rules listed
herein.
Article XIII: Governing Documents
1. This constitution is only a guideline for the rules and regulations of this organization. The coaches and
administration have complete authority regarding membership in the organization.
2. The Eureka High School Athletic Code of Conduct addresses member behavior in and out of school and
uniform.
