JANUARY BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON AND
Program: Dave Winstone is a musical chameleon,
with his ability to sing in 8 languages and play 9
instruments. Come enjoy music from around the
world and hits from the U.S.A. with Dave’s musical
talents and diversity. Reservations will be cut off at
a maximum of 65 or the time limit of one week before the luncheon, whichever occurs first. For reservations, call 517-6261. The Senior Nutrition Program is partially funded by Older American Act
funds granted by the Ventura County Area Agency
on Aging. This valuable service is sustained with
the help of your contributions. No recipient will be
denied service because of their inability to donate
the suggested amount, we are grateful for any contribution amount you make.

WALGREENS: NUTRITION & EXERCISE
Staying healthy and in shape is a resolution that
many of us make at the start of a new year, but most
have difficulty keeping that resolution due to our
busy schedule or because we don’t have the proper
guidance. Join Sally Miller, Pharm.D. of Walgreens
Pharmacy for a look at what steps you can take to
stay on track. Learn about nutritional supplements,
exercise safety and exercises basics that can help you
reach your health & fitness goals. A question and
answer session will be made available to those in attendance. Limited seating is available, so to make a

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Active Adult Center is currently recruiting volunteers to lend their skills and expertise at the center.
The following are volunteer positions that we are
currently needing assistance in;
Computer Instructor: The center is looking for a
patient and knowledgeable person who is interested
in sharing their knowledge of computers with others.
This individual would help teach others how to access and navigate the internet. Volunteer would receive full support from staff in outlining class content. Persons interested in helping in any way, or if

Location: Carpinteria Beach Walk to Seal Rookery
Receding tide is predicted for this 3.5 mile roundtrip walk on firmly packed sand. Enjoy outstanding
scenery, tide pools, and one of only 4 remaining
harbor seal rookeries on the California coast. From
a bluff 60’ above the beach, see a colony of as many
as 100 adult seals that give birth to their pups on the
Carpinteria shore. Binoculars recommended. Optional: Bring food or refreshments for a beach-front
picnic before heading home.

CONTAINER GARDENING
Shar Lugo, president of the Simi Valley Busy Hands
garden club demonstrates how to grow a full scale
garden in minimal space. This very popular Container Gardening class meets once-a-month and features
changing themes, with students completing a new
container garden at the end of each class. A $5 material fee is due at sign-up.

new club will explore local parks

service to the Active Adults in our community, Stacie will be dedicating her time to complete her studies to become a Registered Dietician. We wish her

BOCCE BALL
Bocce ball continues. Enjoy the great outdoors, the
camaraderie of friends and some good exercise at
this twice-monthly bowling-like game. If you’ve
never played; feel free to observe a few games and
join in later. Due to its popularity, Bocce will continue year round, weather permitting.

services to the senior community and can be taken
advantage of by anyone over the age of 60. If you’d

Financial Review: If you’d like to know where your
money goes every month or if you have questions
about your financial investments, the Active Adult
center offers FREE financial review services by a
professional investment advisor. The advisor can
help interpret retirement statements, help set financial goals, show you how to budget to save money or
if you want to invest, but don’t know where to start,
you can get those questions answered at the Active
Adult Center. Call to schedule an appointment.
SENIOR ADVOCATE
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Senior Concerns Advocates will be onsite at the Active Adult Center to assist seniors and their families,
providing vital information and answers to problems
and issues on: housing, transportation, in-home care,
facility placement, family or caregiver issues, health
care, senior benefits, emergency assistance, Preretirement Counseling and Elder Abuse. To schedule an appointment, contact the Active Adult Center

GOURD ART CLASS
Instructor, Pat Barbour instructs a new 8-week
Gourd Art class, beginning November 18. Pat’s class
covers how to clean the gourd in preparation for decorating it, using dyes, paints, wood burning and other embellishment techniques. Class materials fee is
$40 for the eight-week session, and is payable before
or at the first class. Gourds, dyes and equipment provided. Beginners and walk-ins welcome.
