Community Trends® Spotlights Greenbriar Woodlands
Community Trends® is the monthly magazine published by the New Jersey chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI-NJ) and is distributed to its members.
CAI is a national, non-profit organization that represents the
best interests of common-interest communities like Greenbriar. The New Jersey chapter of CAI (CAI-NJ) is dedicated
to enhancing the quality of community association living,
through education, legislative advocacy and professional
development. The volunteer leaders of the Board and I are
members of this organization. The December 2014 issue
of Community Trends® magazine featured Greenbriar
Woodlands as their “Spotlighted Community.”
Each month, this publication highlights a particular community for its distinct character or picturesque
beauty. A few months ago, Renaissance at Manchester
was featured. Knowing the pride felt by the residents of
this community, the Board agreed that Greenbriar deserved
this tribute as well. With the assistance from camera club
members, Helen DiPreta, Robert Campbell and Art Duym,
striking photos were submitted along with a brief narrative
of the community. One photo in particular was awarded

It is always difficult to come up with ideas for this column, especially in the winter, but “roofs” in our community
have become quite an issue for emergency repair, so let’s
601 talk about them. In two months we had about 11 residents
needing emergency replacement roofs. Why? LEAKS!
Your roof may be telling you something. There are variY 88 • BRICKTOWN, NJ 08724 • LAUREL HEIGHTS PLAZA
ous reasons why roofs leak. A roof is the most essential
.com • PROUDLY SERVING MONMOUTH & OCEAN COUNTIES SINCE 1985
requirement of any home, simply because it shields you,
your belongings and your complete home structure from
unwanted damage. A minor leak can cause major damage!
Leaks that have been there a while can cause ugly stains
on ceilings, walls, and soften sheetrock, or even cause falling ceilings. Some residents say “But my roof is only 16
years old.” Doesn’t matter! Maybe an area of your roof
has been getting pummeled by constant heavy winds or
rain or snow or sleet. If it’s a constant area, guess what?
The roof is going to lift and leak, or freeze then melt and
the water sneaks backwards following a weak beam and
then dribbles down the walls. So, while inside your home
this winter, look up and check your ceilings, walls, and
even under window frames. Some signs of a wearing roof
are: shingles that lift up, curl or buckle, missing flashing
by skylights and fireplaces, age of course, and missing or
broken shingles. If you think you have a leak, call a roofer
for them to determine. It could just be a minor repair.
To my anonymous writer, we wish ARC could help you
but it’s not our area of responsibility …. but I did enjoy
‘not’ knowing who you are. We will continue in our areas
to Help keep Greenbriar Woodlands Beautiful.
Any alteration to the appearance of any portion of the
exterior of any home requires approval of the ARC. q

OPEN ALL YEAR
Our New Year’s Eve Gala seems to have been a
success. The changes we made were a long time coming and we worked hard to decide what the changes
should be. We were not all in agreement, but we
worked together to plan what we thought would be a
wonderful evening for all who attended. For this, I
thank all of the PEP ladies.
Peter Lieberman’s entertainment was the easy part.
The hard parts were what time to open the doors and
what to serve cold and on each individual table. This
took the most work, but we think we succeeded.
The PEP committee does not run dances for ourselves; we run them for you. Therefore, we are asking
for your help in making this year’s dances better than
ever. Put your thoughts on paper, put them in an envelope and leave them in the PEP box at the front desk.
Many thanks to all who attended not only our New
Year’s Eve Gala, but all of our 2014 dances. We wish
you a healthy, happy 2015.

Plans are already afoot! Watch for info in our Pine
Cone Press. 2015 is already a busy time. Our monthly
Breakfast Social, held the third Wednesday each month,
is a great way to meet and greet our new residents. This
meeting also enables our clubs to say “hello” and let each
know what is new on the agenda.
“Hello” to all our new Chess Club members. If you
are interested in learning to play Chess, please note: meetings are held on Wednesday nights from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Beginners are welcome.
The Computer Club will begin its new season Tuesday,
February 10 at 3:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. Jim
Abel is always willing to teach us the latest technology!
Most of us feel that any day is a new day for computer
knowledge. Sometimes the most simple item goes from
the mole hill to the mountain in no time flat. Jim is the
man to solve these problems and to show us the easy way
and the right way to learn. Thank you Jim for all the help
you give us.
Our Garden Club out did itself this past year with its
Holiday Luncheon on December 11. We are so proud of
their continuing support and are grateful for their personal
commitment. It certainly shows in the great job they do
each year. Keep up the good work!
Claire Farrell and her group of tappers will be back to
work on Fridays at 10:30 am. Claire and her group will
show us their skills when they perform for the June 28
Variety Show, and the word is that they will be doing some
tapping at the Community Players musical presentation on
November 14 and 15. We all look forward to seeing our
friends on stage.
PEP has great plans for this year. Don’t forget Halloween! Who is going to win the prizes this coming year?
Maybe we will have some great surprizes!
Happy Valentine’s Day to one and all.
Thank you to all of you from all of us here in SACC.

It was so great to be back on stage after our December break . Our January dance featured “Jersey
Boys, Bands and Diva’s.” We played and performed
ads-4738from Count Basie to Bon Jovi, as well as Tommy
songs
James and the Shondelles, Ricky Nelson, Paul Simon,
Whitney Houston, Lesley Gore and Connie Francis,
all New Jersey natives. And of course, it would not be
a Jersey tribute without songs from the Four Seasons,
the true Jersey Boys, The Chairman of the Board and
The Boss. It really was a great “Jersey January” dance.
Each month, we pick a theme where we can musically choose a wide variety of songs so all can enjoy
listening and dancing. Besides the song list that we
have planned and rehearsed, we are also connected
to the internet in the Clubhouse, and through our DJ

Greenbriar Book Discussion
By Yvonne Roberts
Co-directors Jane Stanko, Deb Weingroff and I wish
all of you a happy and healthy new year. It may seem a
little strange to read this belated (though heartfelt) message now, but since I am writing this on New Year’s Day
it makes perfect sense to me. (Ah, the joys of a publishing
schedule.) I would also like to take this time to thank some
of our members who work selflessly, diligently and most
importantly, for free, to make our club run smoothly each
month. Joan Leonard and her husband are the people who
travel to the Ocean County Library in Brick each month to
pick up all of our books. They also return the items, track
down late books and make sure we are in good standing
with the library staff. Sophie Colucci and Madge Edgerton
are those ladies who hand out the books each month logging
who has which book. Thanks too, to all of the people who
volunteer to be the moderator each month. Each person
in our club contributes a valuable presence to the club,
whether they offer an opinion during the discussion or just
nod at someone else’s point of view.
Rosemarie Poverman was our speaker at the Holiday
Luncheon in December. She delighted us with her talk
on the ABC’s of Joyful People. It sounds so simple and

yet is so important to our happiness. “Joyful people take
responsibility for their own state of mind.” She gave us
a list of suggestions from Mc Kay’s book How You Feel
is Up to You. What a wonderful list of New Year Resolutions it made. Accepting, boosting, courage to change and
debunking myths made the cut. Rosemarie told us that her
license plate reads MOOMBA, which stands for “My only
obstacle must be attitude!” If only we could embrace this
thinking all of the time.
Nimfa Szarka led our discussion of January’s book
Broken for You, by Stephanie Kallos. This was a great
story of “those lonely people who find unexpected happiness by creating a surrogate family.” It is also the story
of redemption and repair. In February, we will be reading
Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant. It is the story of a 15 year
old girl who does not fit into the mold of Florentine women
in fourteenth-century Florence at the height of the Renaissance. She hopes to one day create her own masterpiece.
Join us on February 26 to satisfy the letter S from the ABC’s
of Getting Joyful. (S stands for Social.) And now, since
it is February, “I wish you shelter from the storm, a cozy
fire to keep you warm and most of all, I wish you love.”

Some articles are routine, some are fun, some require
lots of thought and preparation and only rarely is writing
them a chore. This month it is all of the above.
There is a lot of information to be shared plus some
additional items, so let us begin.
We will get to the high scores of the past month in a
little bit, but our first order of business is to congratulate
the winners of the first half of the season.
After sixteen weeks, two teams ended in a tie at 74
wins and 38 losses, so a one-game roll-off was needed to
determine a winner. In that game, Team Wisteria {Molly
Aloia, Frank Vespoli, Bernie Schilder, Wally Picht} defeated Team Scholar {Judy Cerelli, Phyllis Caprio, Rosalie
Wetzler, Gary Tice} to claim the prize.
Wisteria will meet the winner of the season’s second
half in mid-April to determine the two top teams for the
year. Along with our second annual Holiday Bagel Bash
plus lunch at Finnegan’s, it was a very exciting day.
Now to the high scores of the past four weeks. Jim
Berry (215, 202, 204), Ron Castner (202), Ed Morgan
(209), Tony Noe (206), Wally Picht (200, 212, 202, 221,
212), John Russo (209, 224, 246, 224), Bill Suydam (211),
Gary Tice (279, 242, 248, 247, 233, 239, 212, 236, 224,
213), Ann Brinkofski (189), Pat Brustman (176, 177, 182),
Sheila Cahill (185, 187), Claire Gallagher (194), Marge
McCloud (189) and Irene Piejak (177).
Week thirteen was a particularly good one for the
league for two special reasons.
First, Gary Tice rolled a 769 series with games of
279, 242 and 248. I have been in the community for almost eleven years and have seen bowling stats for most
of them and 769 may be the highest series ever bowled in
this league. That would be praise enough except for the
man who bowled it. We have more than 70 people in the
league and they are all, in my opinion, wonderful men and
women. Gary, however, in addition to his outstanding talent
as a bowler, also happens to be a true gentleman. When
you bowl against him and lose, you come away awed by
his graceful style and pleasant manner. When you bowl
against him and win, you know you have beaten the best
we have. As far as I’m concerned, either way works. It is
a real pleasure to bowl with Gary and call him a friend.
The second neat thing that happened on December 1
was the 572 rolled by Bill Suydam. He chose just the right
week to hit his best series of the year because it made him
eligible for the Club 50 Tournament to be held in May. We
congratulate Bill and wish him luck in the tourney.
We now set all team records back to 0-0 and bowl
another sixteen weeks before our end-of-year banquet
and the distribution of cash and prizes. We still are on the
alert for anyone interested in joining the league, either as
a substitute or regular bowler.
With the completion of the new split season format we
also changed two members of the board. Ann Brinkofski
and I are stepping down as president and vice-president.
The new president is Rich Dooley and his vice-president
will be Hank Cerelli. Pat Brustman will continue as secretary and Sherry Mirsky is still the treasurer of the league.
Thanks to everyone for helping me make fewer mistakes
each year.
Did you know that William Tell and his sons were active in league play hundreds of years ago? Unfortunately,
a fire destroyed many of the records from that time so we
will never know……for whom the Tells bowled. Ouch!

The holidays are far behind us and our Holiday Luncheon at the Caffe Italia is a mere memory but a delicious
one. All who attended enjoyed the delicious meal, including the excellent cheese cake for dessert.
Our February program focuses on photographer Andrea
Phox’s photographic experience of Hurricane Sandy with
her program Hurricane Sandy through My Lens. Please
join us on Wednesday evening, February 18 at 7 pm in
the Multi-Purpose Room. A Question and Answer period
usually follows all our programs and photographers are
always willing to share their experience and expertise with
the audience. Refreshments will follow.
It is not too early to start the process of deciding what
photographs to enter in the Annual Competition to be held
on April 15. The Requirement Sheet will be posted in
Information Alley.
Please avail yourself of the necessary information to
submit photographs for the competition. A copy will be
included in the March issue of the Pine Cone Press. We
urge all residents to submit your favorite photographs and
attend the competition. It is amazing what one can learn
about their pictures from a trained professional. Our judges
are always highly qualified professionals and their opinions
are an invaluable learning tool.
A reminder that all our meetings are free and all residents are welcome to attend.
Focus on enjoying yourself…join the Camera Club!

It’s been over three months since the Chess Club came
into existence and I have met some very nice people. Also,
I’ve gotten to know some very nice people better than
before the existence of the club. In the 1980’s, I played in
numerous tournaments and I can honestly say I never met
a chess player I didn’t like. We have fun on Wednesday
nights from 7 to 9pm and we enjoy each other’s company.
My wife Lil gave me a wonderful gift for Christmas.
It is a book called “Chess Endgame Quiz” by Larry Evans.
So often beginners go into the end game with a win and lose
mind-set or draw the game because of lack of understanding about end game nuances. The solution to last month’s
puzzle is: 1. Nxd5 Kxd5 2. Qb7# 1-0 ... MOVE 1, White’s
Ne3 captures Black’s d5-Pawn; Black’s King then captures
White’s Nd5 ... MOVE 2, White’s Qb1 goes all the way
up, to b7, resulting in Checkmate, due to White’s Ne6 and
Bf4 covering the only escape routes. q

The last game of 2014 was played on December 19 so
there were only three plays that month to give the Director

I hope that some of our Party Bridge Players made a New

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, February
14. Many cards are exchanged making this day a popular
card sending holiday. Flowers and candy are the traditional
gifts chosen to give to our loved ones. Valentine’s Day is
a day of romance. Hand-made valentines were first massproduced in America in the 1840’s. The tussie-mussie is a
quaint term from the early 1400’s for small, round bouquets
of herbs and flowers with much symbolic meaning. Each
flower, blossom, and twig has a message of its own in the
old-time language of flowers. Tussie-mussies were popular
here and abroad during Victorian times. The language of
flowers is said to have originated in France and was based
on a great many historical antecedents: herbal medicines,
Renaissance art and literature, the Turkish Selam, Greek
and Roman mythology, and Judeo-Christian heritage.
Plants and flowers could have one meaning due to traditions and heritage in one country and a completely different meaning in another. This lead to many, many books
and dictionaries published on this subject. This special
and unusual gift is used even today. Some flowers used
are the Daffodil meaning “You’re the One,” Daisy means
“Innocence,” lavender Heather stands for “Admiration,”
Dandelions mean “Faithfulness,” red Roses are for “Love,
Respect,” red Tulip stands for “Believe Me; Declaration of
Love,” and even the yellow Tulip finds room on the list
with “There’s Sunshine In Your Smile.” There are thousands of meanings, and we haven’t even touched on herbs
and twigs! Enjoy the day!
Our next meeting is scheduled for February 12. Our
speaker is Master Gardener Kate Copsey. Her subject will
be “Herbs! Herbs! Herbs!” Meetings begin at 1:30 pm.
Speaking of flowers, make note of The New Jersey Flower
and Garden Show beginning Thursday, February 12, from
1 pm to 8 pm.
The show continues from 10 am to 8 pm until Sunday,
February 15. The NJ Convention Center in Edison, NJ is
the location and costs $15 per adult, with a senior discount
price on Thursday and Friday only, for $10. Plan to visit
the Great Garden Marketplace!
The oldest and largest indoor flower show in the world
is next on the agenda. This is the Philadelphia Flower
Show. The theme this year is “Celebrate The Movies.”
This event is held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center
from Saturday, February 28 to Sunday, March 8. Costs of
tickets are $32 per adult if purchased on-site, and advance
tickets are $27 plus a $1 service fee.
Welcome to our Garden Gate!

Get ready, dust off your clubs, start exercising, March
1 is just around the corner. Our Opening Day Celebration
is March 7 in the Multi-Purpose Room from noon till 2
pm. We will have delicious hot dogs along with the usual
toppings and beverages.
Frank Gagliano’s “Introduction to Golf” is scheduled
for February 25 & 28, March 11, 14, 25, 28 and April 8. All
classes are 1 pm to 3 pm, held in the Multi-Purpose room.
Some will be held outside, weather permitting. This course
will teach you the basics, if you never played golf , or it
will help you to brush up on your knowledge of the game.
The membership fee to join our Association is $350
per person. Our tournaments will be: Saturday, March 21,
Wear’n O’ the Green, followed by Saturday April 11, Past
Presidents Scramble, and Saturday May 16, our Annual
Greenbriar Masters Scramble. All Major Tournaments
are played in a four person scramble format. Read about
our other tournaments in future articles. Just a reminder,
tournament fees have been raised from $16 to $18 to help
offset the cost of our lunch.
In 2015 we are starting a new mentoring program. This
•
mentoring program works as follows: if someone wants
to learn more about golf, after attending the Introduction
to Golf class, people can approach Frank, or go to the pro
shop and ask for a mentor list. The person working at the
pro shop will have a list of mentors. He or she would then
be given a person to call from the list and discuss how they
would like to proceed. It is up to the mentor to coach the
new golfer based on availability. If you would like to be a
mentor, please call me. I am certainly open to any helpful
suggestions to make this new initiative work.
Please don’t forget to sign up in one of our leagues. The
Men’s League is on Tuesday mornings, the WOW’s play
on Wednesday mornings, and The Mixed League plays on
Friday mornings. We also have the Kickers Tournaments
which are held on Saturday mornings when no major tournaments are scheduled. For more information, please go
to the pro shop or call me.
The first meeting of the 2015 golf season will be held
on Wednesday, March 25 in the Multi-Purpose room beginning at 7:15pm. Our 2015 hostesses are Lola Romero
and Luz Fredes.

Welcome to the opening of the golf season. I took a
little vacation from writing for two months because it was
a rest time from golf for many of us including myself. Now
it’s time to get down to business again. I had a meeting with
all of my committee people to set up our dates for this year.
Our first meeting will be April 29, at 10 am in the main
room of the Clubhouse. All those who would like to bake
can contact Pat Brustman. She is in charge of refreshments.
If you can, please send in your dues of $70 membership
for the year as soon as possible; it would be very helpful.
If you have any questions or concerns please bring them to
the meeting to discuss. You know you can always contact
me by phone or just put a note in the WOW’s folder and I
will get back to you.
Hoping to see you all at our first meeting. Till then,
think of this as the beginning of 2015 golf season which
will be your best year ever.

Library Notes
Doris Hambach
We have a wonderful collection of books. How are they
circulated? In the back of each book there is a pocket with
a card in it. To take the book out, remove the card, date it
with the month, day and year and sign your name. Place the
card in the small slot in the left door of the cabinet as you
enter the library. When you return the book, please place
a rubber band around it so it stays closed when you put it
through the large slot in the right cabinet door. Books open
as they fall so the rubber band protects the binding when
another book falls on it. Rubber bands are in a basket atop
the cabinet. A volunteer librarian will return the card to the
book and place it on the shelf.
If you see a card that has a note “new card” on its top,
that means the original card has been lost. The librarian
makes out a new card and places it in the pocket. Many
readers check the card to see if they have read the book.
Unlike the public library, we do not have a time limit
as to how long a book can be kept out. We do encourage
our readers to return the books within a reasonable time,
especially if it is a popular book. Please do not take our
books on vacation. We know many of them travel, especially to Florida. Be considerate of other readers. On several
occasions, books have been returned to us by airlines when
the book is left on a plane.
Enjoy our library and visit us soon!

Greenbriar Woodlands Men’s Club College Program
Luigi Serughetti
As you enter the Multi-Purpose Room and walk along
the wall to the very end on your right, you will notice a
small rectangular sign bearing a Latin inscription, “Sine
Arte Vacat.” Literally translated, it means “without art
it’s empty.” The “it” probably refers to the room itself; no
longer empty now, since many pictures by our own artists,
hang on the walls. Loosely applied, the saying can also
mean that without art there’s emptiness… that art makes
life fuller. You don’t have to be an artist, painter, dancer,
musician, etc. to make your life fuller, but loving art will do.
Mr. Bob Mataranglo, as he has done many times before,
will again help us increase our understanding and love
for art by presenting a comparison of two famous sculptors: Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the very epitome of Baroque
sculpture, and Jeff Koons, an American artist known for
reproducing ‘banal objects,’ turning balloons into cute animals. In his very ‘Mataranglesque’ style, he titles his lecture
“The Heavyweight Championship – Bernini vs. Koons.”
He says: “Keeping with the theme that ‘art is always of its
time and era’, I will compare and contrast the two leading
sculptors of their eras…I will present their most famous
works, discuss their process, and fan the fires of descent
as the audience votes for the winner.” Well!
Mr. Mataranglo is well known to the Greenbriar
Woodlands College program audience. His educational
background includes an MFA in Visual Arts, an MA in
painting, Art History courses in Florence, as well as teaching at Ocean County College, Brookdale, and Monmouth
University. He has received numerous awards. You can
find more details at www.bobmataranglo.com.
I hope you’ll enjoy this lecture and will leave further
enriched intellectually.
Lastly, this will be the last program presentation organized and overseen by Mrs. Serughetti. Throughout
her five-year tenure she has brought us some outstanding
programs which have enriched us. Thank you. The program will continue under the very able guidance of Tamara
Woronczuk. A former art teacher, Tamara has continued
to pursue her artistic talents and is involved in the Artists’
Guild at Island Heights, as well as many activities within
the community.
Have a very Healthy and Happy 2015.

Outreach
Janet Homsey
Since this article had to be submitted well before the
Hidden Treasurers Auction, I will report on it’s success in
the March issue.
A donation was made in memory of Marilyn Panaccione to the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for Renal
Services.
We received thank you letters from The Hope Center
for our continued support; Harbor House for our donation
from the Halloween Dance 50/50; The American Cancer
Society for our $200 donation toward the Making Strides
for Breast Cancer; Parkinson’s Disease Foundation for our
gift in memory of Maryann Miles; Carol and Tony Mennella for our remembrance of Edward; Doris Smith for our
remembrance of Donald.
Outgoing President, Barbara Jobin, thanked the Officers and members of Outreach for their help and support
during her presidency.
The HOPE Center has a new interim director, OJ
Meyer, and they have announced they are looking for
volunteers (you do not need to be a member of Outreach
and you can be male or female) to help staff the office,

food pantry, fund raising, etc. If anyone feels that they can
spare a few hours a week/month, please visit them at 253
Chestnut Street or give them a call at 341-4447.
Remembrance Cards - I am sad to report that our Remembrance Program is not being used by our residents. As
stated in earlier articles, other than the Hidden Treasurers
Auction, this is our only “money maker” to help us keep
our programs going. So please think about giving a nominal
donation to Outreach for that special occasion. Joan Link
can be reached at 240-7616.
Again, the Food Box in the Multipurpose Room –
please, we cannot stress enough, no glass jars, open boxes
of food or outdated food. Items requested are beans, chili,
canned fruit, hash, juice boxes, tuna fish, peanut butter,
potatoes (canned or dried), rice (no larger than 2 lbs.), stew,
cereal, pasta, dry milk, and saltine crackers.
Community Assist Volunteers for February are: Johanna Bulkilvish at 473-1595; Eleanor Ditchkus at 818-1402;
and Ginny Yachnik at 569-3132.
Our next meeting will be February 3 at 10 am in the
Ceramics Room and new members are always welcome!

The Dreaded Winter
Poet’s Corner
December, we anticipated
Excited, we all celebrate.
Early January, we undecorate.
February and March, we hibernate.
But these chill-filled days can motivate…
Start 2015 with a new, clean slate!
Up off that couch – don’t be sedate.
Less fatty food upon your plate.
Take a brisk walk, let your blood pulsate.
Then sit by the fire and recreate
Some happy memories from another date;
Reflect, relive revalidate.
Keep busy, and winter snow and ice will slowly dissipate.
A spark of restlessness for Spring we may initiate.
Tho, if you site a budding crocus, don’t hyperventilate.
Full blooms will come; nature will reward our wait.
For Spring’s first buds will reactivate… aaah, don’t it
exhilarate!
From a collection of Lee’s Lousy Limericks.
The Gift of Love
Sherry Bravstein
Love is sweeping the country this beautiful Valentine’s Day
Lovers getting married, walking down the aisle way
Doesn’t matter whether you are young or old
One thing is for sure, love has a powerful stronghold
It makes your heart beat faster, chills run up and down
your spine
It’s as if you discovered a precious huge gold mine
It is more valuable than any sparkling jewel
It keeps your head spinning, like a giant whirlpool
Yes, love is something to surely celebrate
How fortunate you are to meet your perfect soulmate
This is the day for all lovers to shout and to cheer
The day when Cupid shoots his arrow in the air
Because love is a factor that no one can explain
It takes over your body, and resides in your brain
Love is not logical, it doesn’t make any sense
All we know is that the feeling is overwhelming and so
intense
So take nothing for granted, love is the greatest gift of all
Cherish it, embellish it, from daybreak to nightfall.

I hope everyone had a great Holiday season. Now that
we have the Winter to look forward to, we have a lot going
on in the Singles group to keep you busy. In January, we had
a program from Kimball Strokes that was very interesting.
On February 17, we will be having a Wine and Cheese
tasting. You must have signed up at the January meeting or
call Dot Poulsen by February 12 to be able to attend. It will
be from 3 pm to 5 pm. Kevin Donahue will be teaching us
about the world of wine.
On March 10, we shall be going to Ichiban at the Ocean
County Mall for a dine out. The cost will be $18. Look in
this issue of the Pine Cone Press for more details.
On April 14, we will be having a sandwiches and salads
get together. More info to follow.
May 12 will be our Pizza party at 4 pm.
In June, we will be having our Dine Out with installation of officers.
Till next time, keep warm!

Kathy Bello
Well, hello February. We made it through the holidays,
some of us went on a cruise to the Carribean and for some,
Cupid shot his arrow at a loved one. The weather warmed
our bones and now back to some seasonal weather.
Our Coffee Klotch Sunday gave us an opportunity to
enjoy delicious desserts and at the same time get a chance
to chat with our neighbors. It’s always so nice to get to
know one another. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
This month we are sponsoring a Friday Night Bingo.
So come one come all and enjoy the evening. When is
it? It’s Friday, February 20, starting at 7 pm in the Main
Room. Look for our poster in Information Alley and in the
Pine Cone Press.
Additionally, the scholarship committee chairwomen
will begin a dialogue with the senior guidance counselors
at the three Toms River High Schools. March 30 is the
first get together date with our members who indicated they
wanted to assist the scholarship program. The chairladies
will begin contacting these members in the coming weeks.
Dee Mortellito is busy planning our first fundraiser in
April. It’s going to be a hoot of a time! We’ve contracted
with the actors, so they are ready. A light lunch and desserts are planned. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go
