Last week our teachers completed “Week Zero.” This was a time where teachers shared
information about students and planned to meet each students needs. The week concluded with
a retreat day led by Fr Peter Tipene. During this day we focused on parables and stories that had
great application for our teaching and school.
There are already a lot of dates on the school calendar on the school website –
www.stellamaris.school.nz and click on the “Calendar” tab. On Friday February 20th we
celebrate the 10th birthday of Stella Maris. There will be a Liturgy commencing at 1.30pm
followed by photo viewing and meeting up with past students, staff, BOT members and
associates. Bishop Pat Dunn will be attending with colleagues from the Auckland Diocese. This

Team News
Matikao Team: Welcome back to all our families and a warm welcome to new families for 2015.
Term one is a busy term with an emphasis on learning routines and gaining confidence and
independence. Please ensure your child arrives at school before the 8.45am bell so they have
enough time to organise themselves before the day starts. If you have any questions please feel
free to ask your classroom teacher.
Mokehu Team: All our classes are settling in well and routines are being established. Teachers
are busy getting to know their classes. The focus for the Mokehu years is on developing
increasing independence and sound self management skill. There will be information about
routines and expectations in next week’s team newsletter.
Huruhuru Team: We warmly welcome all students and families, new and returning, to the
Huruhuru team. All teachers have sent home a letter introducing themselves and a full team
letter will come home next week offering information about many areas of of the senior school.
We have organised stationery and are setting up our programs over the next few weeks.
May God’s blessing come upon you.

Stella Maris Catholic Primary School
Our School wide focus for the first two weeks of this term is Prayer and teaching the children about
the Charism of Stella Maris. How fortunate we are to have a school where children are taught to
love, respect and care for each other through prayer and actions.
Let us remember that, "When you need, God knows. When you ask God listens. When you believe
God works.”
God Bless

created to assist families who may need financial support

hardship another option to seek relief where they may be
reluctant to approach their school for help. The existing
financial hardship scheme – operated by your school – is
also available to parents or caregivers facing hardship
and we do encourage families facing financial difficulties
to please contact your school office. Application forms
are available from school and parish offices, or can be
down- loaded from the Catholic Schools Office Website:
www.catholicschools.org.nz (go to Property and Finance /
Finance / Attendance Dues). If you have any queries or

are counted towards our schools chosen rewards from
the Starship Mobile Phone Schools Campaign i.e.
cameras, sports packs, i-pads and book vouchers.
Campaign helps to ensure NZ landfills are free of an array
of hazardous toxic substances. In just five years the
Starship Mobile Phone Appeal has raised close to two
and half million dollars to keep the Starship National Air
Ambulance Service flying. Schools have participated by
collecting unwanted mobile phones and swapping them
for a wide range of rewards whilst at the same time
raising funds for this worthy cause. The campaign works
like this: Most of us have old mobile phones lying around
at home somewhere. We ask that each family in our
school come on board and donate any unwanted old
mobile phones. Not only does every phone count towards
our school’s preferred reward but they also help fund the
Starship National Air Ambulance whilst also serving as a
valuable recycling initiative. Please drop phones in the
collection box in the school office.
