Dear Families
Welcome to Term 4.
This Sunday is World Mission Day. In the gospel we hear Jesus say:“Give back to Caesar what is
Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
Maybe Jesus isn’t asking us to take him literally. Maybe Jesus is telling us what, after all, is
God’s? What belongs to him? When we think about it, doesn’t everything – all that we have and
all that we are – in fact, belong to him?
So when Jesus says, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” could he
be challenging us precisely to recognize this most demanding of truths that everything belongs
to God, and everything, therefore, ought to be repaid – to him.
The following candidates for the Sacramental Programme will be presented at the 10.15 am
Mass at St Johns Orewa this Sunday:
Thomas Aitken; Jessie Berry; Genevieve Buckley; Jayden Churches; Oscar Cremen;
Lily-Anne Humphreys; Niamh Jones; Laughton Kora; Maia Kora; Jack McEwan;
Bridey Mehrtens; Ishana-Lee Nui, Amy O’Neill; Fletcher Purvis; Joe Rhodes.
Please remember these students in your prayers as their faith journey continues.
On October 28 we celebrate our annual Grandparents day. We invite Grandparents to come to
school in the morning and join with their grandchildren in their classrooms, share morning tea
with other grandparents in the school hall, and be entertained by some of our students. “Family
Life Gifts” will be holding a stall in the foyer on this day giving people a chance to purchase gifts.
We thank them for this opportunity and look forward to seeing all our Stella Maris Grandparents
for a fun morning.
On October 31 the PTFA are holding a “Fancy Dress” disco at school. Years 0 – 3 will be from
5.00 pm to 6.30 pm and Years 4 – 8 from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm. Your child will bring an order form
home today, so be quick and get your ticket order into the PTFA red box. Thank you to the PTFA
team for arranging this function for the students.
Team News
Matikao Team: Welcome back to school. Year 2s have started at top speed, learning about
scooter safety with our Community Constable Dave. Year 1 students have been out on the field
beginning to look at athletics. This will carry on across the team as we explore different skills.
Please make sure all children have their PE gear at school each day. Thank you.
Mokehu Team: It is lovely to see you all back and the children looking rested and happy. A
reminder about hats this term. The school has a “no hat no play policy.” We have hit the ground
running with our show “The Treasure Seekers”. We will be performing one day only in the week
after Labour day. Show date: Wednesday 29th October (one day only) First show at 11.20 am,
second show at 1.30 pm.
Huruhuru Team: Will be doing whole Team Athletics on Wednesdays. Children must wear hats
and their complete PE gear. The Year 7 – 8 children and the Waste wise reps will be visiting the
Waitakere Transfer station next Tuesday. Those involved have been informed.

Stella Maris Catholic Primary School
The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the
fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7th. It was
instituted to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church
in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faithful. How wonderful to hear our students praying
this great prayer every morning.
Let us pray through the intercession of Mary, the model of humble and joyful evangelization, that
the Church may become a welcoming home, a mother for all peoples and the source of rebirth for
our world.
SCHOOL NEWS
School Attendance Dues Sponsorship Scheme
The Attendance Dues Sponsorship Scheme has been
created to assist families who may need financial support
with the payment of attendance dues, for students
attending Catholic schools in Auckland Diocese, both
primary and secondary. The purpose of the sponsorship
scheme is to allow parents or caregivers facing financial
hardship another option to seek relief where they may be
reluctant to approach their school for help. The existing
financial hardship scheme, operated by your school, is
also available to parents or caregivers facing hardship and
we do encourage families facing financial difficulties to
please contact your school office. Application forms are
available from school and parish offices, or can be downloaded from the Catholic Schools Office Website:
www.catholicschools.org.nz (go to Property and Finance /
Finance / Attendance Dues). If you have any queries or
require assistance with the payment of attendance dues
under the sponsorship scheme, you are invited to phone
in confidence, Carol Krebs (Ph. 360 3069) at the Auckland
Diocese office. Applications to the sponsorship scheme
for 2014 attendance dues will be accepted by the
Auckland Common Fund Ltd up to November 2014.

Stella Maris Celebrates 10 Years In 2015
The planning is underway for this event. The actual
celebration will be held on 20th February 2015 in
conjunction with the welcome picnic. It will commence at
1.30 pm with a Thanksgiving Liturgy and flow into an
afternoon for meeting up with past staff, students,
colleagues and associates of the school, viewing photos,
chitter chatter, afternoon tea for guests and then to join in
the welcome picnic. There will be at approximately
4.30 pm an official cut the cake and visitors and guest will
be welcomed to join the festivities on offer at the picnic.
So mark your diary spread the word and we will look
forward to celebrating this milestone with our past and
present students, families and guests.
