It has been awhile that I’ve sent any form of update on how God is working in my heart, so I wanted to share a piece of that. Many of you participated in some way shape or form with the Change The World project which started in 2012. Medical doctors in Zambia, Africa shared with us at church that they had a great need for an x-ray machine to be installed at Zimba Mission Hospital where they are currently serving. The machine they have is very old and cannot function quite like it should. It was laid on our hearts to try our best in making people at Faith Wesleyan Church and the surrounding community aware of this need so that together, we could play a part in Kingdom work right here on earth! Greetings from Mozambique! This Advent season as we reflected on God’s great Gift, we would like to thank you for your prayers and the support of our community and the work that God is doing here! A few weeks ago I was preaching/teaching in a local church on the doctrine of God - who He is and what He desires of us. At the close of the service, three people came forward to pray and to seek a deeper and more victorious Christian life. We praise God for His faithfulness! This past October we had 10 new pastors graduate from the Bible College. They have returned to their home areas to pastor existing churches or to plant new ones. We praise God for the quality men Hundreds of large pill bottles were donated to this project for and women He is raising up for ministry. Please join us in praying community members to fill with their loose change. God did a for the new students who will be starting their studies, as well as the miracle and we ended up having $20,000 come in simply through new scholarships to bring in urgently needed funds for expenses such people’s loose change. I don’t know what you think, but I know only as teachers’ salaries and food for students. We don’t know where God can make that happen! these funds will come from, but we’re believing God will provide. It’s now 2015, and finally... the new $40,000 machine will be inAs we enter into the final year of our third term of service here in stalled this coming March at Zimba Mission Hospital! Praise to God! Mozambique, we are looking forward to seeing family and friends when we return to the States for home ministries in the fall. Please Today was one of those days I wish I had a stenographer tagging along with me everywhere I went. It seemed as though The Lord sent join us in prayer for our ministry here, and the kids’ schooling when we return to the States. each and every person directly to me today to be an encouragement as I continue to follow Him. This evening I met up with a man that just so happens to be from Zambia. Let me share with you our conversation... Owen was incredibly interested and wanting to know more about the Change The W orld project to raise funds for the x-ray machine. I asked him how he even knew about Faith Wesleyan Church, our pastor, etc.. He told me that he works at Lock Haven Hospital in Infectious Disease, and was chatting with the pharmacist one day. The pharmacist told him how he was kind of involved with this project that was raising funds for some place in Africa. Owen asked him where in Africa, and the pharmacist told him the Zimba Hospital in Zambia. This was the very same place Owen worked when he was living in Zambia! Interestingly enough, the pharmacist only knew about the “Change the World” project because he was at the gym with a man that attends Faith Wesleyan. What a small world! Owen and I began talking about people he and I knew in common from Zimba, which brought back fond memories of a dear place and dear people. It amazed me how many people we knew in common; both Zambians and missionaries. Owen seems to have a very warm and special spot in his heart for the people of Zimba. It was super encouraging to talk with someone who knows so much about a culture and place I love. It’s been such a journey as God keeps having me collect experiences and different people who are willing to pray with me as I seek after Him. I returned from Zimba last January, not knowing if overseas missions was really the “avenue” I wanted to take, but God hasn’t let His heart for Zimba far from me. I am learning deeper what it is He seeks after, and how He sees me as his daughter - a special part of the story. He has majorly been stirring in my heart, so don’t be surprised when you receive more updates. We hope we’ll have the privilege of visiting with you and thanking you in person for partnering with us. May God bless and provide all your needs throughout the New Year! A team of three recently returned from a six-day session in Busia (a town on the border with Kenya) where they conducted training for the Jesus Film Team and a group of about 40 pastors. Seminar topics included Servant Leadership, Team Building, Conflict Resolution, Strategic Planning, Church Planting, and Ministry Follow-up. The Jesus Film Team was trained on the operation of the equipment and expectations of accountability. A practice showing of the film took place in Bwaniha, a village about 20 miles southwest of Busia. More than 1,000 people viewed the film, and 39 responded to the invitation. The Wesleyan Church in Uganda has roots in home fellowships started in 2000 in Busia. There are currently 72 churches - 62 in Uganda, and 10 in Kenya. As the Jesus Film spurs growth of the Church, the need for trained pastors will become more urgent. Photos from the trip and comments during the trip are on the Penn Jersey District Missions Facebook group page, and in the Uganda 2014 photo album. A lesson I learned today was to recognize Christ in all things. How can you do this in your everyday work? I encourage you to think about how each second of our days are planned by God himself. The container arrived at the hospital in Zimba yesterday (Jan. 19.) We offloaded all of the equipment for the new x-ray machine today. Bill Wright has his tickets booked for his trip to Zambia. He will be arriving here March 30 to install the new x-ray machine. We appreciate all your support very much! The first public showing of the Jesus Film in Uganda, Africa. The Case for True Love by Robin Muffley ove. As with any good thing in life, man has found a way to commercialize it, i.e. wrap it in colorful, glitzy packaging, and sell it for big bucks. Go into any retail outlet this time of year, and you will be greeted by heaping mounds of red and pink heart-shaped boxes of over-priced, really bad chocolate (Dove-brand being the one exception), teddy bears large and small, and rows of beautifully designed greeting cards, all attesting to the fact that love, in these United States, is really big business. And let’s face it, who doesn’t enjoy being both the giver and receiver of a trinket or two on Valentine’s Day? However, the love of God, unlike wilted flowers, bad chocolate, and worn-out stuffed animals, is the real deal! For those who have never taken the time to read the Bible, I can only say you are missing out on one amazing love story, beginning in Genesis, to the grand conclusion in Revelation! The following verses are just a few references to God’s great love. The message is simple: God first loved us, and the only way we can show our love to Him is to demonstrate that love to others. According to Jesus, this is the greatest commandment. After studying these verses, our fervent prayer should be, “Lord, help us to love more!” L Jeremiah 31:3 NIV "The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness." Mark 12:28-31 NIV One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 John 3:17-18 NIV If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 Peter 4:8 NIV Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. I John 4:13-21 NIV This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. My First Love I by Charlie Muffley must have been about 7 or 8 years old at the time. My mom always worried about us kids (and still does, bless her heart!) when we were away from her sight for too long. But my best friend lived only a few doors away. So when she knew where I was going, and who I was with, she knew I'd be OK. I suppose she took these opportunities to worry about my brother for a while. Anyhow, one day I walked to my friend's house to see if he wanted to go across the street to the schoolyard to win some marbles from me in a friendly game, or maybe find a nearby tree to climb. When I arrived, I went around to the back door, where I normally went, and there I saw...My First Love! Jealousy was never a trait I possessed, but I couldn't help wishing this thing of beauty that stood before me was mine! Fifty plus years later I still recall the "Wow" feeling that coursed through every part of my being. I had to be patient for several more years, but my patience was FINALLY rewarded! I finally experienced the feelings that my friends had already known. It was the month after my twelfth birthday that I awoke to another "Wow" feeling... a 16 inch shiny red Schwinn bicycle under the Christmas tree. But the cause of this "Wow" feeling was mine, and was to be my constant companion for the next few years, until my next "First Love" came along...the one with FOUR tires. But that's another story.... But I had another "First Love," the One who was the first to love ME, the One who told Jeremiah "I knew you before you were formed in your mother's womb." Mom and Dad were excited about the birth of their first born child, and all their families were excited for them too. And I'm sure the God who formed me was excited too, as He looked from Heaven into the hospital room where I entered the world that cold November morning. Mom has told me that I had the most beautiful smile when she held me the very first time. I'm sure God was smiling too! Each February, as Valentine's Day approaches, our hearts turn toward the ones we love, with thoughts of greeting cards, flowers, and a meal at a nice restaurant. May our hearts this year turn to the One who loves us, and knew us before we were formed in our mother's womb. We love You too, Lord!
