Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; for in him all things
in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or rulers or powers – all things have been created through him and for him.
He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the
body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come
to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or
in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without
him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the
life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not
overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness
to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light,
but he came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming
into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the
world did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not
accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to
become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the
will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and lived among us and we have
seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1–14
Collect
Post Communion
Green Prayer
Almighty God,
give us reverence
for all creation
and respect for
every person, that
we may mirror
your likeness in
Jesus Christ our
Lord.
Amen
God our creator, by your
gift the tree of life was set
at the heart of the earthly
paradise, and the bread of
life and the heart of your
Church: may we who have
been nourished at your
table on earth be
transformed by the glory
of the Saviour’s cross and
enjoy the delights of
eternity; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen
Dear Lord and Father. We cry out to you to
protect your creation, to defend the work of
your hands. Save our generation from our
addiction to fossil fuels. Wash our hands of
their clutch on dirty energy. Clean our hearts
of our desire for more and more. Turn our
souls away from materialism and our habits
of taking and taking from your sacred, finite
world. Give us a vision of the blessings we
will receive if we turn away from idolatry of
the economy and bow to wisdom and truth.
Show us that a kinder, simpler lifestyle will
allow us to see your glory more clearly. Let
your glory shine throughout your kingdom.
Amen.

SMALL HOME GROUPS
The whole electoral roll has been divided in
groups of between 9 and 14 on geographical lines.
The hope is to offer to everyone at Christ Church
the opportunity of belonging to a small group
and to generate a sense of belonging. If this is
something you’d like to be part of, please put a
tick against your name.
BOOK CLUB
Questions for the meeting to be held on Thursday
12th February can be found on the cross aisle.

PARISH PILGRIMAGE
TO ASSISI
We have two spare places on our pilgrimage to
Assisi in June (9th-16th). The cost is £750 if
anyone would like to join us we’d be delighted to
hear from you. Please speak to Richard.
NEW FILM GROUP
A new group is beginning. We will watch films
and look for God! Have you ever noticed where
God is in E.T.? Alien? Matrix? The Searchers? Or
even Boyhood, The godfather or Raging Bull?
Film is often a brilliant way of exploring the
human condition, the meaning of life, love,
sacrifice, forgiveness and hope. There’s often no
religion but God is almost always there. Sign the
list at the back of church if you’d like to join in.
SHROVE TUESDAY/
ASH WEDNESDAY
As usual there will be a Pancake Party in the Hall
on Shrove Tuesday 17th February at 3pm. All
welcome! There will be pancakes for eating,
tossing and racing, plus other amusements for
children. If you would like a lift please sign the list
at the back of church. On Ash Wednesday there
will be a service of communion at 8pm with
imposition of ashes to mark the beginning of
Lent.
