How to use this Guide This Course Enrolment Guide 2015 provides you with information on when and where the units available for study in this program(s) will be offered in 2015. Enrolling in units for 2015 1. Read Section 2. ‘Program Information’ for information on course structure and unit sequence. Take note of any prerequisite or co-requisite requirements before selecting particular units. • A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met by a student before enrolment in a stipulated unit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the prerequisites for a unit prior to enrolling into that unit. • A co-requisite is a requirement that must be met by having already passed or being concurrently enrolled in an associated unit in order to be able to enrol in the stipulated unit. If you wish to enrol into a unit for which you have not met the prerequisite or co-requisite requirements, please obtain approval from your Course Coordinator. 2. Refer to the unit listings in Section 3. ‘Units Offered in 2015’ to select your units. Take note of the study period in which units are offered. 3. You must refer to Administration & Enrolment on the ACU website (http://students.acu.edu.au/332297) for information on how to complete your enrolment via Student Connect. ‘Administration & Enrolment’ also provides detailed information on managing your studies. 4. Log on to Student Connect and enrol (http://students.acu.edu.au/136953). Student Connect is a web interface allowing students to complete their ACU enrolment online. IMPORTANT NOTE Failure to enrol or re-enrol before the published due dates for re-enrolment on the ACU website (http://students.acu.edu.au/381148) may result in late fee penalties. Even if you are unsure of what units you need to enrol in, please ensure that you enrol or re-enrol in at least one unit before the due date. Enrolling in at least one unit by the due date will enable you to add further units, or amend your enrolment via Student Connect up until the final dates published in the Critical Dates for Variation of Enrolment on the ACU website (http://students.acu.edu.au/273880). “Turnitin” The Faculty of Education and Arts values students’ academic honesty and integrity. It employs a range of processes and technologies to support students to ensure their work aligns with University’s Academic Honesty Policy and Framework for Academic Integrity. Turnitin, now available at ACU, is an online originality checker and is an educative tool for students. It allows students to preview their work and identify originality prior to handing in assessment items. Program Information– Master of Education PLEASE NOTE: The Master of Education at ACU has been reviewed and course rules vary depending on which year you commenced the degree. Students are encouraged to speak to their Course Coordinator to clarify their specific enrolment questions. For students who commenced the degree in 2014 the following rules apply: 2.1.1 General To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 80 cp from the schedule of unit offerings, consisting of: • 20 cp from Core Education Units • 20 cp from Core Research Units • 20 cp from the Capstone Project Units • 20 cp from any Specialisation or Elective Units. Information last updated 5 February 2015 Page 3 2.1.2 Degree with a named specialisation The following specialisations have two core specialisation units and must be taken with the two Core Education units: EDCU623 Social Justice, Identity and Curriculum and EDCU624 Teachers Leading Curriculum Change. The two core research units: EDRS602 Evidence in Contemporary Education and EDRS603 Methods of Educational Research, together with EDRS600 Capstone Research Project relating to the specialisation, will complete the degree with a named specialisation in: 2.1.3 • Arts Education • Contemporary Learning • Gifted Education • Language and Literacy Education • Mathematics Education • Wellbeing and Inclusive Education The following specialisations have four core units, all of which must be completed for a named specialisation. EDRS602 Evidence in Contemporary Education and EDRS603 Methods of Educational Research, together with EDRS600 Capstone Research Project relating to the specialisation, will complete the degree with a named specialisation in: • Career Development • TESOL • Special Education • Middle School Mathematics Note: A student who has completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Education with 40 credit points from a named specialisation may be granted a Master of Education degree with that named specialisation by completing the two core research units and a Capstone Research Project relating to the specialisation. 2.1.4 Autism Spectrum Studies The three Autism Spectrum Studies units in this specialisation are not offered at ACU. Students should first complete the Advanced Professional Certificate (Autism Spectrum Disorder) with the units ERASD1, ERASD2 and ERASD3 at Eastern Ranges School, Melbourne. When successfully completed, students will be eligible to apply to ACU for specified credit into the ACU Master of Education (Autism Spectrum Studies) specialisation. Once admitted to ACU, students must complete the Core Education Unit EDCU624 Teachers Leading Curriculum Change, the two core Research units: EDRS602 Evidence in Contemporary Education and EDRS603 Methods of Educational Research, together with EDRS600 Capstone Research Project relating to Autism Spectrum Studies. Please note that if you are unable to complete the above requirements for a Master of Education, you will only be eligible to exit with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Autism Spectrum Studies) if you have completed at least 20 credit points of ACU units. Requirements to Complete Award For information on the duration of your course, and the requirements to complete your award, please refer to the Course Rules for your program. Subsequently, if you wish to resume your studies in the higher level course, you will be required to reapply for admission to that course. If you are enrolled in a Master’s degree and intend to complete this degree, you may request a letter (if required) from the Course Coordinator confirming that you have satisfied the requirements for the Graduate Certificate, but you cannot receive this award.
