EMERY: [email protected] A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR Today's Scripture Readings speak especially to those of us who are tempted at times to lose hope and become discouraged. We all know that at times life can indeed be difficult. Suffering and even pain are simply part of life. But we are reminded that the Lord is always with useven in our most difficult times. Our God cares for us as a loving Father who is aware of our every need. Just as Jesus healed those in today's Gospel, he wants to heal us. Jesus has the power to work miracles in our lives and to give us the strength we need during our times of suffering and struggle. He comes to us, revealing a God of compassion- a God of love. The cross shows us that suffering does not have the last word. There can be a resurrection as we triumph over the sufferings of this life. We must call out to the Lord and open our hearts to His great love. For us, Jesus is God's answer to pain and suffering. Interfaith Hospitality Network Host Week We will be hosting families in the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) from Sunday, March 8 to Sunday March 15. Volunteers are needed for a number of different roles to help the families feel welcome. See the sign-up sheets in the church vestibule to sign up for any of the following: preparing meals, setting up and breaking down, spending time with the families each evening and on Saturday, staying overnight, shopping for the week, and helping with laundry. Stewardship Reflections “Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed…He told them, ‘Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.’” – Mark 1:35,38 In today’s Gospel reading we see a perfect example of stewardship. Jesus gives His time to do all that God wishes – healing the sick and preaching. Yet, Jesus also makes time to be alone in prayer. It is through prayer, spending time with God, that we find the strength to do what God wishes us to do. Reflections on the Catechism “Jesus and Prayer” 2602 Jesus often draws apart to pray in solitude on a mountain, preferably at night. He includes all men in his prayer, for he has taken on humanity in his incarnation, and he offers them to the Father when he offers himself. Jesus, the Word who has become flesh, shares by his human prayer in all that “his brethren” experience; he sympathizes with their weaknesses in order to free them. It was for this that the Father sent him. His words and works are the visible manifestation of his prayer in secret.
