PARKINSONS Outpatient program The Parkinson’s outpatient Program at St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital is a specialised program designed to increase quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s. Members of our team are experts in assessing people with Parkinson’s and identifying any potential difficulties focusing on movement, independence and education in a social and friendly atmosphere. The group comprises of a Physiotherapy exercise session and an Occupational Therapy session targeting upper limb exercises, education (with guest speakers) and strategies. A tea break between activities will also provide an opportunity to relax and have a chat over a cuppa. WHEN: Tuesdays 1:15 – 3:45 HOW LONG: 12 weeks Education Topics include: • Understanding Parkinson’s (Dr Rubenis) • Pacing, falls prevention & exercise • Stress and relaxation • Nutrition & Swallowing • Communication, thinking and memory • Driving • Art therapy A referral from your doctor or specialist is required to commence the Parkinson’s program. Fees – the program is covered by most private health insurance funds and may also be covered by relevant funding bodies subject to prior approval.
