The readers performance will be held on Thursday, February 12 at the St. Michaels High School Auditorium at 7:30 pm in honor of our 16th President’s birthday. Call 410-745-6073. 7th Annual SMCC Tea/Fashion Show/Silent Auction at the Inn at Perry Cabin On June 14, the Inn at Perry Cabin will, once again, be the gracious hosts for the St. Michaels Community Center’s 7th Annual Tea, Fashion Show and Silent Auction. Seating is limited to 100 guests who will partake of an elegant afternoon tea with sparkling wine and a buffet of scones, sandwiches and sweets which will be generously provided by the Inn at Perry Cabin. Ticket price will be $55. Fashion Show models exhibiting clothing and accessories from local clothing and jewelry stores and the Treasure Cove Thrift Store will mingle among the guests throughout tea time. A Silent Auction will be on display throughout the tea as well. Guests will be invited to bid on a wonderful array of gifts items, art, jewelry and packages. Proceeds from this event will support the SMCC programs which include free luncheons and activities for seniors, free holiday dinners, clothing drives, after school programs and summer camps for children. The Sink or Swim (SOS) Program started in the summer of 2014 by partnering with the St. Michaels Community Center to offer free swimming lessons for children at the Bay Hundred Community Pool. To date, through classes at the Bay Hundred Pool, this program has helped nearly 300 students learn to swim. Based in one of the oldest waterfront towns on the Chesapeake, runners will be treated to gorgeous water views, a quick mile past charming main street shops for the 10k and half marathon and a rockin’ after-party in downtown St. Michaels. This year also includes a 1k Kids Fun Run for children ages 12 and younger. All children will receive a race shirt, race bib and finish line food/drink! Registration fees are $25. This class we’ll use pieces of your old jewelry and recycle them into a rosary style wrapped necklace and make it funky and fun. We will use antique bronze wire and findings to make this have great bohemian look. Students will learn about the importance of stretching, first through fourth positions in ballet, the difference between jazz and ballet movements as well as a short routine they can practice at home. For 14 weeks girls will learn about the historical characters, do themed crafts, play games and celebrate the star within themselves. Girls are welcome to bring their dolls or a stuffed animal each week. Class will begin February 3rd and run thru May 5th. Class will be held at SMES from 2:35-4 and is open to girls in grades 1-4. Come out and learn all about police work, why we have laws and how they are enforced. Field trips to various law agencies and more. Graduation ceremony to take place at end of course. Sign up early, class size is limited. Class will be held at SMCC and is open to students in 3rd thru 5th grade. Class will begin March 4th and run thru April 22nd. Graduation will be April 29th. Arts & Crafts $20 Come see Ms. Amy for an afternoon of arts and crafts. We will be making an assortment of fun and unusual crafts. Expect the unexpected. Class will begin on 2/4 and run thru 5/6. Open to ages K-5th grade. Class will start right after school at SMCC and run til 4:30. From 4:30-5 we will offer a light dinner and homework assistance. Girls Run for Fun $20 Join us in this girls only program. Ms. Susanne is looking forward to meeting some young ladies who would like to start running and form new friendships. We will be running, excersing and participating in team building and more. Open to ages 3rd thru 5th grade. Class will start on 2/18 thru 5/13 and will be held at SMES right after school until 4:00 PM. We will end the year by participating in the St Michaels Running Festival. It’s gonna be fun - don’t miss THURSDAY Intro to Wood Carving $25 Learn to...carve...sand...paint...mount...This is a beginners class for children 9-12 years of age interested in working with wood. We will be using a power tool (dremel) and a wood burning detailer to shape, sand, and define the natural details of a shorebird. The class will also sharpen skills of measuring and learning to follow a pattern. Class will be held at SMCC. Class will begin on Feb 12th and run thru March 5th. It will begin right after school until 4:00. This class is limited to 8 children. Please sign up early. Hodge Podge $20 Join us for fun and games. Each week we will have a special guest here to offer a fun and exciting activity. From cooking, crafts, and science. Anything you can think of. Open to ages K-5th grade. Class is right after school at SMCC until 4 and then from 4-5 is board games and wii.
