RENO HIGH EARNS A 4-STAR RATING
Welcome to October! We have many announcements to share with you this month so let’s
get started!
First, in both the Nevada State and the WCSD School Performance Frameworks, Reno High
School earned a 4-Star rating. We are slowly but steadily moving up the ladder to a 5-Star
rating but it will take hard work in some key demographic groups in areas like student attendance and IEP students graduating with a standard diploma. We are dedicated to the task at
hand and have a strong action plan focused on improving in these key areas. I am extremely
pleased with the fact we raised a percentage point in our graduation rate with 88%. We tied
for the most summer graduates also with 12.
Congratulation Marilyn JohnsonBoard Recognition for Educational Support Professional of the Year!
RHS has 4 National Merit Semi-Finalists!
Congratulation to Matt Biondi, Clay Harrison, Tyler Hart and Sierra Jickling!
ATTENDANCE AND GRADES
Parents, please make sure you are monitoring student attendance and grades WEEKLY. We
want every student to have the opportunity to earn credit first semester but poor attendance
and falling behind academically can severely impact that goal. Please contact your son/
daughter’s teachers, counselor and/or administrator if you notice a problem or have a question. Early intervention is the key in helping our students and we have many interventions
available!
TWO BILINGUAL STAFF MEMBERS ADDED
TO THE TEAM!
I would like to introduce and welcome Blanca Luch as our new Americorps Family
Graduation Advocate. Blanca recently completed her training and is 100% on board
and ready to go here at Reno HS. Below is some important information for you to
know: Email: [email protected]
Fabiola Doyle will be serving as our bilingual graduation specialist this year. She will
be connecting with families regarding transcripts, grades, attendance, college among
many, many other duties. She will also be providing information to parents on a regular basis. We are very fortunate to have both of these new members to RHS!

SCHOOL SAFETY
Parents, we now have signs on the
back service road behind the school.
Please do not drive back there to pick
up or drop off your student. We have
too many students walking back there
and its unsafe. Thank you!
School Uniform Update
After much consideration and
research of the new WCSD
Board Policy on uniforms I have
made the decision to table the
committee for now. The policy
does not allow for school spirit
wear outside of a “free dress
day” along with other restrictions that impact a high
school policy specifically. This
does not excuse the issues we
are currently having with dress
code referrals. We will continue to address clothing concerns
and we just ask for your support
at home.

Looking for Young Women in Engineering Participants!
We have a very exciting opportunity to
tell you about that is currently open to
High School girls. The NCWIT Award
for Aspirations in Computing is looking
for young women with outstanding computing and technology achievements to
apply to win $500 dollars, a laptop, and
a trip to the award ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina. Please see the link
at: www.aspirations.org further details.
Mr. Hackbusch Awarded Top 20 Under
40 Recognition.
The RGJ and the Reno Tahoe Young
Professionals Network notified me last
week that I received this award for leadership in our community. I am very
humbled by the recognition and thank
my brother and sister-law for nominating me.
Athletics Winter sports packets are now
available in the VP office. If your student
is interested in participating in a winter
sport, they must have their packets complete and turned into Mrs. Rooker no later than November 13th. Tryouts are November 15th. Please see Mrs. Rooker in
the VP office for more information.
Red House Project Acceptance
Being a member of our community and a
coach of youth sports in our area there
seems to be confusion around how students are accepted into Red House and
how that impacts our athletics programs
for zoned students. The WCSD Signature Academies Office screens all applications for signature programs. Schools
do not screen the potential students and
actually have no idea who applies until
their variances roll into our system. Students must continue the course of study
with an accepted grade point average in
order to keep their variance.
Art Department Fundraiser:
Pinwheels and glass water bottles. Please purchase from any
art teacher in October.
