Simon’s mother-inlaw lay sick with a
fever. They immediately told him about
her. He approached,
grasped her hand,
and helped her up.
Then the fever left
her and she waited
on them… He told
them, “Let us go on
to the nearby villages
that I may preach
there also.”

Contribution Statements
TODAY’S REFLECTION
If you would like a statement of your contributions to
the church for 2014 for tax purposes, call or email
the parish office and one will be mailed to you.
There is something very valuable that we give away free
of charge without thinking twice about it to weather
forecasters, investment counselors, and medical
doctors. Call it our trust. And link that trust to hope.
Some people might expand my list to embrace their
astrologer, bartender, or the person who cuts their hair.
We trust such people and freely hope in what they
advise. Only when we are proven mistaken do we feel
stung by apparent gullibility.
Sacrificial Giving
Offertory for January 31/February 1…$11,383.00
Catholic School collection…$633.00
We appreciate your faithful and generous support!
Trust in others is not a bad thing. We would never board
a plane if we did not trust the pilot. In the case of true
professionals, it reflects our respect for their expertise
and experience. So we do carry an umbrella when the
weather forecaster suggests it. We get our doctor’s
prescription filled simply because he orders us. We buy
into a plan the finance person recommends. As for the
bartender, the barber and all the rest it all depends.
Rest In Peace
We offer our prayers and sympathy to the family and
loved ones of Catherine Paul, (wife of Rudy Paul,
mother of Christine Lane), who passed away
recently. May he be granted eternal rest in God’s
heavenly Kingdom, and may the Peace of Christ
surround his loved ones at this time.
But when we come to trust in our closest friend, we
enter a deeper realm, that of love. If that trust is ever
betrayed, we are decimated, and we join in the
melancholy that Job displays.
VALENTINE COMEDY DINNER
To benefit Sts. Mary & Joseph Parish, Salem
Saturday, February 14th — Castleton Hall
6pm cocktails, 7pm dinner, 9pm Comedy Show
featuring Paul Nardizzi and Pete Mamos,
hypnotist. Tickets are $55 per person. Call 8938661 or www.saintsmaryandjoseph.org
An Evening Filled with Love AND Laughter!
All of this reflection brings us to the contrast provided by
today’s Scripture Readings. First, we hear of Job, a
figure of literary creation meant to teach us, as he lets
out a cry of hopelessness and lament: “My days are
swifter than a weaver’s shuttle. They come to an end
without hope.”
Adult Altar Servers - Funerals
But against that gloomy outlook is the bright hope
placed in Jesus by the people living in the little village of
Capernaum, which we know was St. Peter’s hometown.
As the Responsorial Psalm puts it: “He heals the broken
-hearted and binds up their wounds.” Peter’s mother-inlaw and that crowd of the sick find their hope of healing
fulfilled, and it is a joy to learn of it.
We are in need of adults who would be willing to
serve as Altar Servers for Funeral Masses during
the day occasionally. If you are available and
interested in joining this important ministry, please
contact Peg Donahue-Turner at 898-4818.
Installation Mass for our New Dean
In these times of wars and other bad news, we have to
resist the pull of the pessimist. He defines hope the way
a little boy once did when he said: “Hope is wishing for
something you know ain’t gonna happen.”
On Wednesday, February 25th at 7pm at St. Anne
Church in Hampstead, the Very Reverend Marc
Gagne, V.F. will be installed as Dean of the
Rockingham Deanery at a Mass celebrated by
Bishop Peter Libasci, Bishop of Manchester. All
priests, deacons, religious, parish staff and lay faithful
are invited to this special event.
Think of our POW’s. How could anyone survive years of
such treatment? It was his hope that kept them alive.
Hope of one day going home, that each day could be
the day of their release. Without hope, they knew that
they would die in hopelessness, as others had done.
Such is the power of hope that it can keep one alive
when nothing else can. And hope’s best spokesman is
the Person who founded the Catholic Church. Is that
who you trust? Is He your hope?
2
Responsorial Psalm
Praise the Lord, who heals the
brokenhearted.

Just in time for Lent!
Coming February 18th
33 Days to Morning Glory
33 Days to Morning Glory is a
new Marian Consecration that
was developed by Fr. Michael
Gaitley MIC. The preparation for
the consecration is accomplished through the
study of the devotions of St. Louis De Montfort, St.
Maximillian Kolbe, St John Paul II and Blessed
Mother Teresa. Each one had a deep intimate
relationship with Jesus through a personal
devotion to Our Blessed Mother, Mary.
Join the Women of Grace on February 18th at
9:30 AM when we begin a 33-day preparation
for Marian Consecration on Wed., March 25th,
the Solemnity of the Annunciation. For six
sessions, we’ll individually read about and reflect
on these four great Marian Saints. They’ll teach
us the secrets to drawing closer to the Heart of
Jesus through the Heart of Mary. In our weekly
meetings (6 Total) on Wednesdays – 9:30 to
11:30AM we’ll share our insights within our small
group and then watch a 30-minute video.
If you are looking for a simple way to be spiritually
renewed , develop a deeper relationship with Our
Merciful Savior, and/or renew your consecration
this Lent, join us for 33 Days to Morning Glory.
Materials are provided at no cost. All women are
welcome. If you have any questions please
4 contact Pat Kennedy at 603-890-1013.
