Flipping the Resilience Switch
A keynote by WhyTry Founder Christian Moore, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.
About the keynote
Resilience is something we’re all born with – from the homeless person on
the street to the Harvard business grad. Most of us just haven’t learned how to
tap into what’s already inside us. In his presentation “Flipping the Resilience
Switch,” Christian Moore draws on his work as a learning disabled social
worker from an inner-city neighborhood to help explain why some people are
able to thrive under any circumstances while others crumble from small
challenges. He introduces audiences to the four sources of resilience – Street,
Relational, Resource, and Rock Bottom – and shows how anyone can “bounce
back” by tapping into these resources. Christian’s engaging presentation will
empower you to teach the vital skills of resilience to students of any background
and learning style, enabling them to thrive not only in school, but in life.
About Christian Moore
Christian’s personal story is a testament to the principles taught in his presentations. One of twelve children,
Christian spent most of his childhood on the streets outside of Washington, DC. By the time he entered second
grade, he had been diagnosed with ADHD, conduct disorder, and severe learning disabilities. Despite being told
by high school counselors that college wasn’t an option, Christian became passionate about social work and went
on to earn a Master’s degree. Inspired by his work with troubled youth—and informed by his own “troubled”
education experience—Christian founded WhyTry, a unique multisensory approach to building resilience, establishing positive relationships with youth, and fostering academic success that is now in use by more than 2 million
people across the world. Christian used these same principles of resilience as the foundation for his new book, The
Resilience Breakthrough.

–Lynda K., PBIS Conference Coordinator, Massachusetts
He’s intriguing, he’s enthustiastic, he’s funny, but he also brings
with him that knowledge base that really inspires a lot of
people to start thinking about what they can do differently and
better.
