From The President
Another successful catering event went very smoothly thanks to Tracy, Earl, and their
staff and of course our valuable volunteers. I thank you all.
It was great to see many of the people involved in the negotiations at The Centre, also
using our facilities after the event.
Reminder about our Firewood Collection. Let’s make sure the place is kept warm over
winter. Be a volunteer and help your club.
The organisation for Poppy Day (17th April) and ANZAC Day is coming together slowly. Remember this
is the 100th anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli and it would be nice to see you attend one of the
services. If you can help on Poppy Day give us a ring on 407-4679 or email [email protected] .
Firewood Collection
A reminder re the firewood collection. We need volunteers to help split and
carry firewood to the RSA. Without this firewood the RSA will be a cold
place indeed in winter. Please don’t leave it to the same people to do the
work.
It is on Saturday 21st of February from 8am to around 12 noon. If you can
volunteer please give me a ring on 407-1142 or 027-2857118 or email me at
[email protected] .
To date I have 2 volunteers and both of them are over 70.
Working Bee
It is planned to hold a small working bee prior to ANZAC Day. This is to make
sure the place is looking spic and span as this ANZAC Day will be quite a large
event.
I will let you know by email of the date shortly.
Field of Remembrance Names
We have been researching the names of those who will appear on the crosses
of our Field of Remembrance and eventually our war memorial, however we
have one name that we cannot find anything about. We have researched the
Commonwealth War Graves, Auckland War Memorial, RNZAF Roll of Honour,
RNZN Roll of Honour and the NZ Army Roll of Honour and we cannot find
anything of an I Grant – World War 2 from the Kerikeri District. He may
have been a New Zealander serving with another countries forces – we just do not know.
If anyone can help solve this mystery it would be appreciated.
We are holding off printing the information we have, however we can’t wait much longer.
Membership Cards
It is good practice to carry your membership card with you while visiting the club. Remember we have
our members draw and our meal specials when you will be asked to show your card. We want to make
sure that our members get the benefits from cheaper meals etc. while they are at the club.
We will be carrying out random card checks. Non-members can only use the facilities for 3 visits then
they must become a member – this includes partners. If your partner is not a member then take
advantage of our family membership. Remember – it pays to belong.
If you are bringing a guest then please make sure you sign them in and you stay with them during
their stay.
New Courtesy Van Organiser
I am pleased to say that Trudy Thomson has volunteered to take over the running and organisation of
the Courtesy Van. Trudy would like some more volunteers, if you can help please contact her at
[email protected] or ring the office on 407-8585 and leave your name and contact details.
If you require the use of the van to get home, then please make sure you let the bar staff know.
Some drivers don’t live too far away and will only come if we have people requiring transport to get
home. Remember a $5 koha is expected – thanks.
Friday Night Specials
The Friday Night specials are still proving to be very popular, however we regret that there will be a
small increase from Friday the 27th of February 2014.
The new price for members will be $9.90 for a meal, an increase of 95c. The surcharge for Nonmembers will remain at $2.00.
Also effective from the 27th of February we will require you to show your membership card when
ordering the members meal. No membership card will mean you will be charged the non-member price.
Please don’t be offended as you should always carry your membership card.
To help sweeten this for our regular non-member Friday night diners, we will give you a special deal
for membership. For one month there will be no joining fee of $20.00 and the subscription will be the
half subscription for the year to end of June 2015.
We want to encourage people using the RSA to become members and therefore they can enjoy the
cheaper meals.
Kerikeri Bridge Club
