President’s Message:
A special thanks to all who attended our Installation
Ceremony and General Meeting. Thank you, Rosemarie for a
wonderful installation and for all of our hugs.
Diane Era has graciously accepted the job of Corresponding
Secretary, and we will need one more board member to
complete the board. Please contact me if you would be
interested in becoming a board member. We really need your
help.
As your new president, I am proud to keep your organization
moving forward. In the future, I will be asking for your help
and expertise in accomplishing our goals for the coming year.
Thank you Rosemarie and Pat for volunteering for
refreshments for our meeting in February.
The recipients for the Dorothy Cunningham Art Award
Program will be joining us to receive their awards at the next
General Meeting. I hope that you will come to meet them and
to hear about the art projects they are conducting with children
in San Leandro elementary schools.

Demonstrator for General Meeting: February 10 th
Charles H. White
Charles H. White was born in Quebec, Canada. He began to show an interest in art early in his life. Beginning
with pencil sketches of birds and animals at age six, he developed his talent for draftsmanship to the point where
he won a Canadian art contest at age ten. By the age of fourteen, he had switched to oil painting. He was
successful in selling many of his landscapes as a teenager.
Mr. White studied art at Brigham Young University where he graduated in 1967. With more than forty years of
experience in creating works of art, his talent and expertise is evident when you experience the gracefulness of
his gardens and landscapes. Each composition is classically crafted with attention to the principles of design,
color, value and contrast. His time-consuming technique creates a luminous, multi-layered work that invites the
viewer into a world of tranquil beauty. He shares his knowledge of painting in lectures and workshops and is
currently an instructor in arts at the Danville Cultural Alliance in the East Bay of San Francisco, California.

SLAA General Meeting – January 13, 2015
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Ana Marie Rodriguez
Guests were introduced and Carolyn Lord, demonstrating artist, was welcomed.
Treasurer’s Report was presented and accepted by the general body of members
Dorothy Cunningham Awards will be presented to two art teachers at the meeting on February 10thand they will
talk about their projects.
The Installation Ceremony was conducted by Rosemarie Ramos with a brief description of the responsibilities
of each office and with a Bouquet of Hugs for each.

Nancy Starr; Board Members: Jane Tsushima, Rosemarie Ramos, Molly Dolly, and Gail Otvos.
Anna May Tandi was presented the San Leandro Art Association gavel dated 1957 by Ana Marie.
Anna May Tandi stated that she was honored to take the office of president. She then asked the members to vote
for the Artist of the Month and asked for volunteers to bring refreshments to the February meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.

MEMBERSHIP DUES
Please send in your membership dues in the amount of $20. The membership
period is open as of January 2nd, and extends through March 31, 2015. Your
check should be sent to the SLAA as early as possible to continue to receive
the newsletter and to participate in art exhibits throughout the year.
