Grenada Children’s & Family
Services 2013-14 Directory
FIRST ANNUAL ISSUE
Compliments of the Mississippi Children’s Collaborative (MCC) in Partnership with Grenada Community Foundation (GCF)
Dear Neighbors,
This first Directory is a labor of love, celebrating
our transformation of Grenada County into a
center of excellence in early childhood development by supporting children, families, and our
County’s many resources dedicated to improving their lives.
We hope you will keep it, use it, enjoy
and add to it, correct it and brag about it. We
know it is far from perfect. Please send any
corrections, additions (and donations!) to
[email protected] or call (662) 7920002. Thank you all.
Onward!
The Grenada Community Foundation Board
Our thanks to these Donors who along with
others are helping to make our First Annual
GCF Directory a success!

• Each of us is born with 100 billion

By age three, we’ve acquired 2/3
of the language we’ll use as adults.

our ability to relate to others—not

Grenada: Building Excellence in Early Childhood Development
Note regarding the 14 Early Learning
Centers (ELC)s: hours of operation are provided
on pages 5-6. CDA stands for Child Development Associate.
A Ray of Hope Child Care Center (1997)
Grenada native Rosie Wiggins offers a place
where children play and learn. Her motto,
Guiding Our Youth to the Light by Giving the Gift
of Education drives all that Rosie and her staff
of 9 do, providing 80+ children with a solid
foundation for educational success. All graduates of her first class in 1997 are now in college.
To Rosie, “Every child is a masterpiece in the
making.” Rosie holds National Director Certification, and 5 staff hold CDA’s.
Rosie’s book, Adventures at a Ray of Hope
Preschool, invites readers on a child’s view of
preschool and is on sale at Sugar Plum’s Bakery
& Yellow Bike Books.

passionate about educating children as a
means of making the biggest difference in their
futures. He believes that every child can learn,
though not at the same pace or style. The 30+
children enrolled receive individual attention

all of whom hold CDAs. Ms. Collins also holds
a Director Certification. Each Graduate receives
$500 when finishing high school to buy books at
the college of their choice.
Freeman’s Little People’s Place (1973)
Director Jean Freeman and her qualified staff
of 11 are well known for their love and
guidance of children toward becoming all
they were meant to be. Freeman’s provides a
program to fit each child’s needs in a learning
environment designed so that younger children
can play & learn with fun, educational preschool
games, while older children can experiment with
computers.
Bountiful Blessings (2003) Inspired by
children’s need to develop mentally, physically,
and spiritually at a very early age, Founder
Barbara Reed brings long experience in healthcare to family run Blessings, which offers high
quality childcare for children from 6 weeks to
age 12, and serves parents working second shifts.
Freeman’s maintains a well-kept, safe
environment in which 100+ children benefit
by the A Beka Program and Creative Preschool
Curriculum, taught by a staff holding CDA
Certifications. Ms. Freeman also holds a
Mississippi Director’s Certification. Under Reed’s guidance, her staff of 5 provide a

Little Saints Preschool Affiliated with All Saints
Episcopal Church, Saints is an outreach ministry
to families of 2, 3 and 4-year olds—dedicated to
providing children the very best opportunities
to grow while developing a healthy sense of self.
A staff of 5, who appreciate the developmental
needs of each preschooler, serves 30+ students,
who share experiences such as singing to the
elderly, while 3 and 4-year olds enjoy 2 annual
field trips. The curriculum delivers what the
school district wants children to know when
entering Kindergarten. The admission process is
competitive.
“It didn’t take me long to realize that
the ‘troublemakers’ weren’t bad kids—
just frustrated because they couldn’t

known that children could reach third
