MS CHOIR STUDENTS RECEIVE GOLD!!
The ISSMA Solo & ensemble contest was held Saturday February 7, 2015 at KV middle school. Any
student in a music organization at their school can register and prepare a song on a volunteer basis. They
are critiqued before a judge who rates these vocalists and gives a comment/scoring comment sheet which is
then given to the students. Gold and Silver medals are given to students who receive 1st and 2nd place
ratings. We are happy to report that the MS Girls Ensemble of Mandy Ballesteros, Kaylee Clindaniel,
Lauren Drang, Holly Kuebler, Ciersten Schneider, Izzy Sebastion, Lexi Winters, and Julia Zagotta received a
1st place rating. They sang "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music. In addition, Lauren Drang sang a solo
from Beauty and the Beast and also received a 1st place rating. These girls juggled their after-school
activities and rehearsed with Ms. Loomis 3 times a week. You can see them perform their selections at the
MS spring concert. Congratulations girls!

*CONSENT/RELEASE*
I give permission for my child______________________________ to participate in the Kouts Girls
Spring/Summer Softball League program. I agree to release all coaches, players, league officials
and umpires of any liability in the event your child is accidentally injured while practicing, playing
games, or attending any event associated with the league.

*CODE OF CONDUCT*
Kouts Girls Spring/Summer Softball Association firmly believes in the ideals of good
sportsmanship, honesty, courage, and respect of authority. With this in mind, we have
established the following Code Of Conduct for all age group leagues:
*All players, coaches, umpires, scorekeepers and fans shall be treated with respect.
*Coaches, players, and fans shall not demean their own players, opposing players or
umpires before, during or after the game.
*Players will be ejected from the game for throwing balls, helmets, gloves, etc.
*Any unreasonable display of emotion will elicit a warning from the umpire. This
includes the use of foul language. Upon receiving a warning, the players and coach
shall immediately stop arguing and return to his position of the dugout. Failure to do
so will result in ejection from the game, as well a flagrant violation at any time in the
game (even if a warning was not given).

coaches, spectators and support groups. I understand the spirit of fair play and the sportsmanship
expected by our school and school system. If the Code Of Conduct cannot be followed, the umpire
reserves the right to dismiss an spectator, coach or player from the field.

“Give Kids a Smile” Event Comes to Valpo
Parents, is your child uninsured or underinsured and in
need of dental services? “Give Kids a Smile Day” will be
coming to Valparaiso on Monday, February 16, from 2:007:00 PM. Qualifying children will receive no-cost sealants
(when recommended by dentist), no-cost oral exam, nocost dental cleaning, and no-cost fluoride treatment.
For more information or to schedule an appointment,
please call 1-888-580-1060.
(Please see flyer in this
newsletter.)
Girls on the Run Registration Is Underway
Registration for the KES chapter of GOTR officially
opened on Monday and will run through Friday, February
27, or until registration is full.
Seats are limited to 20
participants (fourth- and fifth-grade girls only), and ten
have already been filled.
Please register early, if
interested.
More information is included in the attached flyer.
Although local preschools have been informed of the
round-up date, please help us spread the word to Kouts
parents without school-aged children.
Media Center Grateful for Student Donation
A big thank-you goes out to fifth grader Mark Smolios
for donating books to the Media Center to share with
others.
Gently-loved books are always gratefully accepted, so if a
closet cleaning is in order, please remember the Media
Center!
Parents Invited to Lunch with Their Children
Parents, did you know that you’re able to lunch with your
children? You may bring your own lunch or pre-order a
school lunch by calling 766-2232 by 9:00 AM. As a friendly
reminder, no fast food or soda may be brought into the
cafeteria. Whether a surprise or planned lunch, students
absolutely love to eat with their parents!
Parents, we
hope your schedule will allow an occasional lunch with
your child.
T-shirts Needed for Art Class
The art room is in desperate need of paint shirts. Parents,
any used adult-sized T- shirts that you can donate would
be a big help. All of the elementary students use the
shirts to protect their clothing when we do a messy
project. You can drop off the shirts at the elementary
office or have your child bring them to the art room. To
finish out the year, I am in need of at least 60 shirts.
Thank you for your help.
—Mr. Wright
Gently-Used Game Donations Wanted
Parents, if you have gently-used board and/or card games
you are willing to donate, please send them to school with
your child. Ideally, games that would take 15-20 to play
would be best for our indoor recess days. We are mostly
in need of games for second through fifth graders. (We
have plenty Memory and Candyland games for our
younger students.) Thank you!

Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana is excited to announce open registration
for the Spring 2015 season! Girls on the Run is a transformational physical
activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 4th and 5th grade.
We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The
program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to
complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash
confidence through accomplishment, while establishing a lifetime appreciation of
health and fitness.
Registration will be online through our website, www.gotrofnwi.org beginning
February 9th and closing on February 27th. Simply click on the “Register here
for our Spring 2015 Program!” link. This will take you to the registration process
through RacePlanner. Once there, review the sites available on the side of the
page. Click on “Category” to find your site! The coach at your site will contact you
with more information. We are limited to 20 seats. If you are interested, please
