FORTHCOMING EVENTS - Chilton Saint James School

Vol 11 No 3
12 February – 18 February 2015
FROM THE PRINCIPAL, MRS JUDE FAWCETT
FORTHCOMING EVENTS
NCEA results were released in January and become official later this Term.
I am delighted with our provisional results as reported below. What is
important when making any comparisons to other schools is our very high
Excellence and Merit endorsement levels, particularly at NCEA Level 3.
It will be difficult to find such a high Excellence endorsement level in any
other Wellington school as well as such a high percentage of perfect
Guaranteed Entrance Scores. The challenge to our students is not to
maintain their levels of achievement each year, but to move to the next level.

Commencement Service
What a glorious evening at our annual Commencement Service last night at
the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul. Whilst we have had two weeks of
successful parent events on site, it was such a pleasure to celebrate the
start of a new School year in the more formal setting of the Anglican
Cathedral.
Preschool Opening Hours for 2015
Please note our Preschool is open throughout
the year from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to
Friday.
 Monday 27 April
ANZAC Day Observance – SCHOOL
CLOSED
The Commencement Service brings together our Secondary School families and our Year 6. It is also a very special occasion to
acknowledge the Year 13 students as they begin their final year of secondary schooling. Leadership is a focus through the School,
but especially for Year 13, where not only do they lead but they facilitate other students to do so as well. Libby Crosswell, our 2015
Head Girl, set the scene for the year in presenting our focus for 2015: Mission (I'm) Possible. Our students (AKA agents) are well
and truly ready to reflect on their personal mission and plan to make sure that anything is possible.
Thank you for your generous support for Child Cancer. A cheque will be presented for $1,006.20.

Year 3
Year 3 have started the year with the Transdisciplinary Theme
of How We Organise Ourselves. Using the concepts of
Responsibility and Reflection, our Central Idea is Communities
Need Rules to Function Effectively. To understand rules and to
help us write our Class Essential Agreement, we have looked at
all sort of rules; road rules, pool rules, classroom rules and
home rules. The most popular rules in Year 3 were Rules for
Teachers 1886. Teachers had to wash the classroom and
windows once a week, they could not be married, could not
expose their ankles, drink spirits, or ever be seen in a pool or a
dance hall. Thank goodness things have changed!
New York Trip
Would you like the opportunity to travel to New York and
Washington in April 2015? A student has had to withdraw so we
have one space available for any current Years 10 – 12 Chilton
student. The cost of the trip is $8,060 and this amount would
ideally need to be paid immediately. The focus of the trip is arts,
fashion and digital technology based but it would be beneficial
to any senior student. Students will visit the Pentagon, New
York Times, museums and the IBM research centre. Contact
Christine England for more information at
[email protected] or phone Reception on 566 4089.
