Teacher of the Year
It is an honor and privilege to announce our Teacher of the Year!
Please join me in congratulating Ms. Diona Nadir for this recognition!!
Ms. Nadir has been a Spanish teacher for several years at Northwestern
and is known for her contagious positive energy, enthusiasm and passion for teaching! She is always thinking outside the box and is not
afraid to try different teaching strategies in her classroom—all for the
purpose of engaging her students. Ms. Nadir also serves on Northwestern’s leadership team as our world language department chair. As the
department chair, she has been instrumental in expanding our world
language department. Her strong leadership skills are evident inside
and outside her classroom as she leads many initiatives (eg. Linguapalozza) all which better our school and ultimately impact students! Congratulations Ms. Nadir!!!! :)
Professional of the Year
Our professional of the year announcement came with some good news
and bad news as Ms. Hally Krogh who was named professional of the
year, also announced her retirement! She has been at Northwestern
also for several years and we are excited for this next step in her life
and even more thrilled that she was able to end her career on this welldeserved recognition. Congratulations and best wishes Ms. Krogh!!

From Fulton County Schools….
An important reminder of the official Fulton County Schools policy regarding sending sick children to school
STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES
2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR
Students who are sick, contagious (potential or actual) and/or have a fever greater than 100.4° orally MUST NOT be
sent to school. In order to return to school, a student should be fever free for at least 24 hours and not require medications to reduce fever; and in some cases must be cleared to return to school by a healthcare provider. In addition, there
may be other health issues like communicable diseases where the student may not return to school unless cleared by a
physician and a note must be provided.
When a student becomes ill at school, runs a fever, has a potential contagious illness or has a more serious health problem while at school, the parent/guardian will be notified to pick-up their child immediately. The parent/guardian MUST
ARRANGE for the student to be taken home. A note from a doctor may be requested by the school before your child
can return to school.
Traditional/Discrete Math Options Posted for Public Comment
Video from Superintendent Woods about math options
January 15, 2015
State School Superintendent Richard Woods today recommended that the State Board of
Education post, for a 30-day public comment period, new math courses that offer a
traditional/discrete course option to Georgia high schools, in addition to the integrated course
option already available.
If approved, high schools would be able to offer either integrated or traditional/discrete courses to
students.
Surveys conducted by the State Board of Education and Regional Educational Service Agencies
found that many educators desired a choice between integrated and traditional/discrete math.
