Dr. Robert Bullard is often referred to as the
“father of the environmental justice movement”. He
believes that if you live on this earth and breathe
this air, you are an environmentalist. When asked
what keeps him going, Bullard answers, “People who
fight... do not let the garbage trucks and the landfills
and the petrochemical plants roll over them.”

Majora Carter is an internationally known
urban planner who views urban renewal
through an environmental lens. She has
created numerous green-infrastructure
projects, policies, and jobs programs to
address the connection between ecological,
economic and social degradation.

George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was one of
America’s greatest scientists, responsible
for developing resource conservation
techniques that preserve soil and make farms
more productive. A true systems thinker, he
understood that everything is connected, and
ignoring that fact can have disastrous effects.

Shelton Johnson
Shelton Johnson is a ranger in Yosemite
National Park who brings alive the story
of the Buffalo Soldiers– the legendary
African–American army regiment, who
protected Yosemite and Sequoia National
Parks in the early 1900s.

Audrey and Frank Peterman are pioneers
in the conservation movement. They are
leading experts on America’s publicly-owned
lands system and are tenacious advocates for
getting all Americans - regardless of race, age or

our natural heritage.

Warren Washington is an internationally
recognized scientist in climate research.
Washington’s computer models for studying
the impacts of climate change were used
extensively in the Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change assessment for which he
and other scientists shared the 2007 Nobel
Peace Prize.
