ACCEPT A CHALLENGE FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOPS See page 3 First Baptist Church of Sanford, NC 919-774-4220 www.firstbaptistsanford.com Reflections from the Pastor Family Life Center 919-776-6137 When we encounter the Risen Christ, There are several texts at this time of the year that move us and cause us to think long and hard about our relationship to God. That is as it should be. Easter is upon us once or, better, again. Unfortunately, too many of us wish just to celebrate the victory over ultimate death, rather than to adjust our lives to reflect that resurrection each day that we have breath. One of those texts is found in the book of Acts. It is the conversion of Saul. The text says, “Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing …” (Acts 9:8). In seeing, he could not see. He was blind to what was happening in front of him. Paul needed new eyes to see reality in a new way. When we encounter the Risen Christ— or, better, when He encounters us — everything changes and we are never the same. Never the same! How often has that happened for you? In reality it has happened a lot! In relationships, in parenthood, in education, in job opportunities, in health issues—just to name a few! However my concern is—has it happened in your spiritual life? Has your relationship with God transformed you? Is it still transforming you? If not—why not? That is a question for the season of Lent! What is it that is keeping you from making concrete changes in your life based upon your relationship with God through Christ? Saul’s change was so drastic that he had to change his name. What about you? “Never the Same!” Blessings, when He encounters us everything changes and we are “Never the Same.” Jeff FLC NEWS Happy Valentine’s Day! I am so thankful for each of you and the picture of God’s love you show to others. Some of my favorite Valentine pictures: watching the faces of our preschoolers as they excitedly share their valentines with their teachers, and watching the generations interact at the Sweetheart Banquet last Saturday. Another picture of love is watching our After School children as they share candy with their leaders and proudly spread out the valentines they will receive from their friends at school. I love to watch love in the actions shown by our Upward coaches as a young child finally Watching the generations interact at the made a basket after weeks of trying! I see it each day in our Sweetheart Banquet last Saturday... volunteers as they greet people coming into the FLC. I see it in the responses of people who worship with us. I see it in your faces as you share God’s love with others. I John 2: 5-6 reminds us, “But if anyone obeys His word, Upward Corner Math: After 5th week: God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know 144 games played so far we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus 378 practice devotions 72 halftime devotions did.” Thank you, FBC, for being an example of God’s love! In their monthly meeting, they wrestled with important decisions to be made about our church in a very positive and loving way. Really, it reminded me of how the body of Christ is to function as it seeks unity (not conformity) amidst diversity (Ephesians 4:2-3). But my favorite time was hearing them report on members within their deacon families that had special needs coming up. Their concern and care for the body of Christ put them squarely in the tradition of the original deacons (Acts 6:1-4).
