That’s because social interaction can boost self-esteem, which gives you a more positive outlook on life. Doctors have found that people who have a positive outlook on life tend to fight diseases better than people who don’t. The bottom line? Meaningful interactions with others enhance your quality of life (and maybe even add years to it), making you feel better and giving you a reason to rise and shine each day. Find those in your community with whom you share a special interest, and get social! Join a Community Group – Quilting circles, book clubs, fishing trips etc. Look for opportunities and more in your community to make new and lasting connections. Volunteer – You have so many skills to offer. What better way to use them than to contribute to a charity of your choice? You can find all kinds of organizations to support either online or in your community. Do you have a green thumb? Help plan a community garden. Do you have the fastest needles in east? Grab some friends and knit hats for cancer patients. There’s so much you can accomplish when you work together as a community. Social Gatherings on Campus We offer many opportunities for you to mix and mingle on campus. Here are a few activities to look for when you want to make campus connections. Woodbridge had an amazing year with new and exciting Activities to include such things as Wine and Canvas Painting, Ceramics and new activities led by staff members of other departments. This is a perfect opportunity for your loved one to share a favorite recipe or offer any suggestions we may add to our menu. Please encourage your loved one to participate in this gathering or feel free to join as well. Chef Mike looks forward to a large crowd and at times provides a new menu item for taste testing. Sunday Brunch Sunday Brunch will resume on February 1th. Theme Dinner Our next Theme dinner is Thursday, February 26th, we will be going back to 1930’s!! J.E.W.E.L. This time of year can bring in bad weather so please know is it our policy to cancel or postpone an activity outing if the wind chill temperature is 20 degrees or below and/ or threatening weather advisories have been issued. Of course, this is We have now started a J.E.W.E.L. (stands for Joyful Elderly Women Enjoying Life) club. This “club” will go out one time a month to eat, shop or whatever they desire!! If you were planning to join, please feel free to call ahead of time for any cancellation. As I am sure some of you are aware, there has already been a dangerous outbreak within our community relating to flu symptoms and other such illness. With that being said, we ask you to help us protect your loved ones and those taking care of them by refraining from visiting while you are sick and otherwise, wash your hands with soap and water. Of course this is the #1 way to prevent further spreading but hand sanitizer is a good alternative as well. One last thing, we will be hosting our quarterly Family Night on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 6:30pm. Mardi Gras is the theme with fabulous appetizers, drinks and entertainment. Our featured resident this month is Carol F. Carol has lived in Logansport all of her married life. She has 2 children, Nancy T. who lives in Logansport and Joe, who lives in Michigan; she also has 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren! Carol loves to do crafts, and enjoy listening to live entertainment. She said her favorite show this past Christmas was when the Children Choir came to performed for us. They were awesome! Carol loves to play Bingo and goes to religious activities, enjoys Cindy’s K-9 times, watch movies in her room and reads! She always has word of encouragement and smile to give to everyone! We sang Christmas Carols, played “Santa and Mrs. Claus”, danced, decorated wheel chairs, and most of all we enjoyed each other company! Our next Family Night is Thursday, February 12th, our theme is Mardi Gras! We are sure to have a fantastic time!!! (Above) The residents loved when Thompson Elementary school came to visit and bring gifts for all of our residents.
