for socializing. The meeting begins
at 10:15am.

President’s Message
Hello Everyone!
Carlsbad Newcomer’s Club is a social club for residents of
Carlsbad and our neighboring communities. A purposeful focus of the
club is to be a charitable contributor to those less fortunate than
ourselves. Fundraisers are the vehicle we use to raise money and
goods for these charities. It is time to dig into your pockets and
cupboards to support the annual food drive for the Community
Resource Center in Encinitas. Last year we contributed 15 bags of
groceries and checks totaling $400. Let’s beat our own record this
year! Refer to the listing in this newsletter for the desired items.
Remember to check expiration dates and no glass, please. All items can
be turned in at the coffee meetings in February and March, and the
monthly luncheon in February. Please give generously!
Do you love to travel? Whether you travel by plane, train, car, or ship
or simply are an arm-chair traveler, you will enjoy this month’s guest
speaker at the coffee meeting. Jay J. Stemmer is the author of the book
Around the World in 80 Years.

 L'Omelet Americain - Hill Farms ham, aged white cheddar, oven dried

feta;
 Cast iron skillet benedict - Fresno chile corn bread topped with steamed
spinach, 2 poached eggs, mustard hollandaise and your choice of brown
sugar bacon or seasonal mushrooms.
Choice of coffee, tea, milk, soft drinks, or fresh orange juice.
Make out your checks for $24 (tax & tip included) to Carlsbad Newcomers with

Marcos, CA 92078 to be received no later than February 14th. Please also
indicate your choice of entree. Please indicate if this is your first luncheon. If you
are bringing a guest, include name and entree choice.

Annual “From the Heart Food Drive”
Most Food Bank shelves are empty at
this time of year, so we can continue
the Holiday Spirit by contributing
non-perishable food items to the
Community Resource Center in
Encinitas. As announced in January,
we will be collecting non perishable
items such as canned vegetables,
fruit, chicken, fish, cereals, rice, pasta,
soups, condiments and peanut butter
at the February and March coffee
meetings and the February luncheon.
Our goal is to turn our contributions
over to Community Resource Center
staff at the March coffee meeting. You
may also make a cash contribution by
writing checks to CRC. Your donation
is tax deductible. Your generosity is
appreciated; and please, no glass
containers or expired items.

GARDEN GROUP

visiting CEDROS GARDENS at
Solana Beach in the heart of the
Cedros Design District. Mayumi
(Mia) Yamada McCorville has been
gardening as a child and has taken
those seeds of knowledge and
grown it into the business of Cedros
Gardens.
Since 1994 Cedros
Gardens has grown from specialized
plant and seeds to complete
landscaping. We will car pool from
Wendy's parking lot on Encinitas
Blvd., west of the 5. If you would
