Changes in Library Policies
Beginning March 1st The Free Library of Northampton
Township will be implementing two new policies that all
patrons should be aware of.
~ We will no longer be issuing “Guest
Passes” for computer access to any Bucks County
resident. To use library computers, residents MUST have a Bucks County
Library Card, except for use of designated “express” stations, which are
available on a walk-up basis for sessions lasting 20 minutes or less. If you
don’t have the card with you, you must know the card number and PIN to
sign on. Staff will not be authorized to give out library card numbers. If you
don’t have a card, you will be required to obtain one to access the computers.
ID with your name and current address is required to do so.
~ Any fine on a patron’s account for 6
months or longer, regardless of the
amount of the fine due, will need to be
paid in full to continue using the card.
If you have a fine for items returned 6 months ago or longer, your account
will be blocked until the fines are paid. As you may know, the county policy
is that items may continue to be checked out as long as the total fine is
under $5.00. This policy is extended as a courtesy assuming that most
patrons will, in good faith, pay their fines as soon as possible. However,
there are some that take advantage of this policy, leaving the fines ongoing
for months and years at a time.

Library Friends’ News
Fred Miller Returns!
Fred Miller has been entertaining us here at the library since April of 2003! This April will mark the
20th time he has presented his very popular Lecture-in-Song series for our library community! Each
of Mr. Miller's shows run 60-75 minutes long and focuses on a great personality or significant aspect
of American Popular Song’s Golden Age. Seated at the piano, Fred not only performs the songs of each
artist, but also provides biographical and historical insight into the life and times of these musical
titans. This time around he will be presenting “The Last Lions of Broadway, Cy Coleman and Jerry
Herman: two who prolonged the Broadway musical’s golden age.” Cy Coleman gave us such classics as,
“Hey Big Spender” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now” from the play Sweet Charity, along with pop
standards including “The Best is Yet to Come”, best known as recorded by Frank Sinatra. Jerry Herman
wrote music for such Broadway classics as, Hello Dolly, Mame and La Cage Aux Folles.

including identity and medical
identity theft, Power of Attorney

to help them spot and prevent any
possible scams or elder abuse!

*The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University admits 2 adults and up to 5 children age 18 or under
*The Morris Arboretum admits 2 adults and up to 4 children age 18 or under
*Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts –
admits 2 adults and up to 4 children age 18 or under
*The Bucks County Children’s Museum admits up to 6 people.

Library Friends’ News
Second Saturdays/third Thursdays
Beginning in March we will be presenting 2 adult
programs a month. “Second Saturdays” and “Third
Thursdays” begin on Saturday, March 14th and will
continue through November. We have a nice variety
of programs scheduled and hope to see you there!
We kick off this year’s
schedule on March 14th,
at 2:00 pm, with a
“Victorian Vanities”
program titled “All That Glitters”, which explores the
illustrated history of costume jewelry including
representative samples. Presenters may include
Rochelle Christopher, Executive Director of Victoria
Vanities, and John H. Thompson. Mr. Thompson has
been an antiques dealer for the last forty years
and for many years had a shop in Philadelphia on
Pine Street’s “Antiques Row”. In addition to the
presentation, appraisals will be available for a $10.00
donation to the library. There is space for up to 40
appraisal appointments. Space is limited, therefore
we recommend you reserve your space early!
Registration begins on Saturday, February 14th.

The Nor’wester Readers will continue bringing their tail wagging therapy dogs
to the library on the first Saturday of each month through May 2nd.
The program begins at 11:00.

Toddler Playgroup
We meet the 2nd Friday of the month at 11:00, through May 8th.
Come and play with the toys we purchased just for our toddlers! Meet new
friends and enjoy social time. This is designed for you and your toddler
ages 2 - 3 1/2 to play together, and with others, in an informal setting.
No Registration necessary, just drop in!

The “Once Upon a Time Players” are a touring theatre company that
specializes in bringing literature themed programming to school,
libraries, and other community events. This winter they are presenting a children’s theatre production of “Shrek Junior”. Come and
enjoy a live theatre performance by these very talented young actors!

Let’s Play School!
Let’s Play School is a web-based program for
young children that will help you prepare your
child to enter school ready to read, write, and
listen. The program is divided into 20 sections
called badges. Each badge has a different learning
theme and five fun activities. The badges are color
coded and divided into five general categories:
Cognitive and Math, Becoming Independent,
Creativity and the Arts, Social and Emotional
Development, & Language Development. You
may choose the skills that you feel will be most
beneficial to your child. To earn a badge, your child
needs to complete three of the five badge activities.
Earn a total of 12 badges to complete the program.
Each activity takes 15-30 minutes to complete.
You don’t need to have a library card. Participation in the program does not require visiting
the library. However, visiting the library may
make the program more fun for you and your
child. When visiting the library you can pick
up a Let’s Play School badge journal, receive
stickers each time your child earns a badge, and
complete other optional activities.
When your child has earned 12 badges, a pop-up
screen will announce that they have finished
the program. Visit the library for a fun prize to
celebrate this milestone! You can track your
child’s progress on the Badges page. Earned
badges will appear in full color.

Juvenile Braille Collection
On February 7th we will be unveiling our new Juvenile Braille Collection! There
will be activities, refreshments, speakers & press at the event! Thank you to the
Smedley family for spearheading this project, and thanks to the Council Rock
School District, the Bucks IU and the many kids in the community who
helped get these wonderful books onto our shelves! Currently there are over
100 books ready for check-out, but by the end of the year there should be
approximately 500! We are very excited about this new addition to our library!

also a small assortment of gift

helps to support your library so
check it out next time you visit!
Are you a local author looking to meet
new readers and get the word out
about your work? Let us know! We are
looking for authors to participate in a
local author expo this summer. The
event will offer authors an opportunity to meet the reading
public, present their work, autograph books, and set up for
sales. If you are interested in joining us, contact the library
