The 12th edition of EDEX Expo 2015 concluded recently at BMICH, Colombo, with a crowd
expectation exceeding last year’s 50 000, it aspires to move on to the Kandy edition on January 30-31
Approximately 200 participants from local and international Universities were present at the
event in Colombo, including 20 new foreign Universities who recently joined hands with EDEX.
Approximately 80 stallholders will be present at Kandy.
Speaking to Daily News Business, EDEX Expo Chairman, Chandana Dissanayake commented
that the main attraction of this year’s event was the Job Fair that was initiated in 2014, which
occurred simultaneously with the Expo at BMICH.
“The distinctiveness and beauty of the EDEX platform is that we connect the dots from school
to work, he said.” There was an involvement of 20 corporate entities who offered jobs, demonstrated
mock interviews, collected CVs and guided applicants during the event. However the Job fair will
not take place in Kandy.
EDEX Expo occurred in four levels this year, the Expo, Job Fair, EDEX Sithuwam (an art
exhibition displaying drawings of children that won the competition), and EDEX Think Green, a
novel project to engage the youth in sustainable living while reducing harmful impact to the
environment. This brings together institutions and individuals to exhibit their green initiatives.
“Another initiative that is not given much exposure is our EDEX Magazine, which is published
quarterly and distributed to 5,000 secondary schools for free, featuring unique careers per magazine,
including which courses to chose, where it’s available, other options to take, which guides the
students to accurately choose their future career goals,” he said.
Further at the Expo, a stall collecting second hand books was put up to be given to libraries in
rural schools through Edex Nanapahana program.
