Agro Advisory
Because of cool weather, micro nutrient deficiencies have been observed in bearing coconut
trees. Hence farmers are requested to apply coconut tonic 200ml/ tree or micronutrient like
Borax 25g, Gypsum 500g, Magnesium sulphate 250g mixed and applied above the soil
immediately followed by irrigation. For drip irrigated coconut coconut tonic may be preferred.
In some of the areas maize crop is in silking stage and nitrogen may be applied @
34kg/hactare (54kg Urea per hactare)
Since this is the best time for sowing of irrigated sesame hence crop may be sown
immediately. Stale seedbed technic may be adopted for sowing.
Since temperature starts increasing, aeration in the sheds may be improved by removing
gunny bags in the sides.

Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri & Krishnagiri
Present weather conditions are heading towards the onset of summer, feed intake in birds likely to fluctuate.
This will affect the egg production in layer chicken aged 40 weeks and above. This might be due to low feed
intake with high energy diet. Reducing energy content of feed and addition of anti stress medicines such as
vitamin C or equivalent can be started now. Further, test water source and water channels for any blocks and
ensure good working condition.
Post mortem observations in the birds brought for diagnostic purpose at Poultry Disease Diagnosis and
Surveillance Laboratory, VC & RI, Namakkal revealed death of birds due to chronic respiratory disease and
upper respiratory tract infection. Spray disinfectants in the shed as per veterinary advice and follow farm biosecurity measures without fail.
A) Special Agroadvisory from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namakkal:
Farmers willing to cultivate cotton can chose varieties such as MCU-5, Surabhi and SVPR-2. Three kilogram of
seed required per acre of land. Seeds can be treated with Imidacloprid @ 7g/kg seed to prevent sucking pests.
