ProBP 3400 tab
The ProBP 3400 tab is the single access point to all device information and actions that you may perform on a ProBP
3400 (except product license installations – see Install a license for details. It is divided into two main areas: a
general device information pane and a secondary tabbed pane.
General device information pane
The general device information pane shows device identification, location information, and communication addresses.
The area may also contain special controls for actions to perform on the device.
To align the ProBP 3400 date and time with the PC date and time, click Synchronize.
Device information tab
The device information tab displays the configuration of the device, including installed modules, installed firmware,
and hardware versions. The battery does not have a firmware version. The manufactured date is determined from the
serial number.
Directly under the configuration information, two panes display warranty and repair information for the device.
Click on a row to select it. Additional product specific information for the selected module displays in the detail pane
to the right. Refer to the specific device help file within the Welch Allyn Service Tool.
Upgrade tab
The Upgrade tab lists the device module’s current firmware version number, and identifies modules with firmware
available for upgrade.
Select a module, and then click Upgrade or select the main device, and then click Upgrade All to install available
firmware to your product. Follow onscreen instructions to complete the upgrade process.
While the firmware is upgrading, the Welch Allyn Service Tool application displays a progress indicator. During the
upgrade process the ProBP 3400 powers on and off. This is normal. You cannot perform other functions until the
upgrade is complete.

Managed devices
Welch Allyn Service Tool provides features that can help you manage and maintain your inventory of supported
Welch Allyn products. The Welch Allyn Service Tool install connects directly to Welch Allyn Customer Service.
This system automatically receives firmware updates and feature upgrades for your supported products.
Maintained device list
Managing your product inventory begins with establishing your offline device list. After you add a device to this list,
it is registered with the Welch Allyn Service Tool.
Select Administration > Maintained devices from the Welch Allyn Service Tool menu bar to edit your Maintained
device list. The dialog shows your current list of offline devices and a list of all devices currently online with the
Welch Allyn Service Tool. Select a device from the Connected devices pane and click Add to Maintained Devices.
You may remove a device from your Maintained device list by selecting it from the Maintained devices pane and
clicking Delete. Once you add a device to the Maintained device list, you may receive work orders for that device on
your work list.
Work list
The work list provides information about service actions – referred to as work orders - that are waiting for you to
perform on your Maintained devices.
Work orders may include periodic calibrations, upgrades, or license installations. To complete an open work order,
connect the device requiring service to Welch Allyn Service Tool and perform the required action as you normally
would.
The Welch Allyn Service Tool automatically downloads updates for Connected devices. Click Request Work
Orders to query for any updates available for your Maintained devices. Any available updates display in your work
list.
Install a license
When you purchase a licensed upgrade for Welch Allyn Service Tool or a supported product you receive an
authorization code from Welch Allyn Customer Service. This code enables you to activate the new feature(s) through
the Welch Allyn Service Tool Install License feature.
Select Administration > Install license from the Welch Allyn Service Tool menu bar to begin. Select Service tool
license or Medical device license, enter your authorization code, and click Activate.
If the selected device is online, your license activates immediately. If the selected device is not online, the license
activates for later installation to the device and a license installation action is available on your work list.
If there is any error in the activation process, confirm that you entered the correct authorization code, check your
internet connection, and try again. If you cannot clear the problem, contact Welch Allyn Technical Support for
assistance.
Device recovery
In an unlikely event, a supported device may fail and is unable to boot its operating firmware. Reasons for such a
failure may include device memory errors or an interrupted device upgrade, among other possible causes. If this
happens the device may display on your device list as a “Platform Bootloader” device.
Welch Allyn Service Tool includes a plug-in for the Platform Bootloader device. The plug-in allows a Welch Allyn
service technician to attempt device recovery by reinstalling the device firmware. Contact Welch Allyn Technical
Support for assistance if device recovery is needed.

Calibrate and verify the device
1. Click within the device row, then click Perform All to activate the test sequence for the module.
2. Enter information about any replacement parts used during service of the product. After entering the part
information, click Begin to start the tests.
3. Follow the onscreen prompts in the right side pane of the test window to progress through the test sequence.
The left pane shows the order of the required tests and tracks the test sequence progress. As the Welch Allyn
Service Tool application completes each test, the pass/fail indicator changes to green for pass or red for fail, and
the application proceeds to the next test.
4. To terminate the active test sequence at any time, click Abort. To terminate all tests, click Abort All.
After the Welch Allyn Service Tool application completes all the tests, it displays the pass/fail test results. After
you have finished reviewing the test results, click Close.
On the Device information tab, the Welch Allyn Service Tool updates to the last successful date that calibration
was performed. The only way to change the last calibrate date of service is to perform all tests and all tests pass.
Any test failure will not change the calibration date. To see the updated calibration date, close the device tab and
reopen.
