Rly budget has good and
bad news: Rajan Vichare
Elevated corridor between Kalwa and Airoli in the offing
By Chandrashekhar Hendve
VASHI: “Railway
budget for the year
2015-16 has evoked
some positive and some
negative sentiments,”
said Thane MP Rajan
Vichare on Thursday.
He was giving his reactions after the annual railway budget was
presented by Railway
Minister Suresh Prabhu to the parliament.
“The minister has
approved the elevated
corridor between Kal-
wa and Airoli and provided Rs 428 crores
which was one of my
main demands. That
will enable the direct
running of
trains between Dombivali-Kalyan and Panvel. This is
a matter of
great satisfaction,” he
said. He also
appreciated
the emphasis laid on upgrading
the facilities at railway
stations, in particular
sanitation. “The budget is talking of providing upgraded toilets,
including the vacuum
toilets on the lines of
those in the aircrafts
and the imminent introduction of air-conditioned locals in the
Mumbai suburban sec-
tion. These are laudable,” he said. He however expressed disappointment over the budget’s silence on the
transfer of
C I D C O
built railway stations
to the railways.
“One of
my main
demands
was the upgradation of
Thane station. I had discussed
the matter with the
minister when he came
down to collect public
opinion in January and
he had responded positively to the demand.
I’m disappointed that
no separate provision
has been made for the
project. The budget
however has made an
overall provision of Rs
1,950 crores for the station up-gradation in
general. I will be following up with the minister to allocate enough
funds for Thane,” he
added.
Vichare also expressed disappointment that the budget
has not announced any
specific projects for
Mumbai. “Prabhu being a resident of Mumbai, many good things
were expected of him.”
Vichare appreciated the PPP model
adopted for the development of Seawood
railway station. “That
will not only set up a
number of facilities but
also help raise revenue
for the undertaking. I
want the model to be
adopted on a larger
scale for the development of other stations,”
he added.

Stop the influx of illegal Bangladeshis
The new government places great importance on Dhaka-New Delhi relations.
National Democratic Alliance government started off
with India’s important eastern neighbour by sending their
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to Bangladesh
as soon as they came to power. The clear message from
the trip was that the new government, as the previous
one, placed great importance on Dhaka-New Delhi relations.
There is no doubt that a great deal has been accomplished in the relationship in the last few years in the
areas of security, economic development, sub-regional
cooperation, opening of the Indian market to Bangladeshi
goods, border infrastructure, energy and people-to-people exchanges.
By easing the visa norms, has India made a mistake?
The operation of bus service from Gauhati, Shillong to
Dhaka will invite more and more illegal refugees to the
land of North-East. Today North-East region, particularly Assam, has become a both breathing and breeding center for Bangladeshi refugees. Indian government may
think that they can take various steps to check such illegal entry through various mechanisms like: Passport,
Visa, ILP etc But, the fact as it remain is far away from
the sight of government. A question - Why the population of Assam and other parts of NE states is increasing
so rapidly? The reason is simple - entry of mature refugees. the Bangladeshi illegal immigrants who cross the
Indo-Bangladesh border and enter India are no doubt,
an adult or mature person. No child can do that. So, since
this refugees comes to India at their adult or re-productive stage, within a couple of year they will give a birth to
child. It seems that North-East India has become a breeding centre. So, the government has to be very careful
with the policy.
One of the main reasons for BJP gaining so many seats
in Assam was because the people felt that something positive and tangible will be done by this government regarding the huge influx of illegal Bangladeshis. People
were let down by the previous governments who have
used these Bangladeshis as vote banks. As it is almost
quite frequent, these illegal migrants cross over to Assam and when bus services and frequent train services
are going to be introduced, these migrants are going to
come all the more. As it is Assamese are a minority now
in their own state. What was actually expected by the
local Assamese population was stronger border vigil and
building of barriers in the border to prevent their influx.
Now the Assamese who have voted this government to
power primarily to deal with this Bangladeshi influx are
surely going to feel let down.
India should take lessons on border problems with
our next door neighbours. Curbing intruders and illicit
immigration should be totally curbed from the very begining. Foregin policy options should keep in mind the
border states concern. BJP-led government at the Centre should not show haste in building one sided friendship with its neighbours. There should not be any undue
concessions to neighbours without their demanding. It
appears that India is concerned with achieving minor
things, than to achieve bigger things . Borders should be
demarcated and fencing completed without any scope for
large scale intrusion and smuggling. India should offer
those things, what it can get in return. There must be two
ways traffic for enduring peace in the region.

NMMC to make attempts to
prevent illegal tree cutting
Letters to the Editor....
Suggestion that will benefit
both ST and commuters
There are a large number of people from Airoli
node who work in industries in Thane -Belapur
road (TB road) industrial belt. Also,
there are many students from Airoli
node studying in colleges at Nerul,
CBD, Kalamboli and Panvel. The frequency of Thane-Panvel trains is not
enough to cater to a large population.
They are run once in an hour. Also,
there are no direct buses from Airoli
node to Panvel. One has to go to TB
road to board ST buses coming from
Thane and going to Panvel. There are
many Thane-Panvel ST buses. Their
frequency is good. All the buses go directly along TB road. I feel 50% of the
Thane-Panvel buses can be diverted via Patni computers, Airoli, sec-20,
sec-19, sec-17, Diva village circle, sec-5, then TB road. The rest of the
route can be same. This route is bound to be a success. It will give good
profits to ST and it will also benefit commuters from Airoli node and
surrounding areas.

NAVI MUMBAI: In a
view to ensure that no
illegal tree cutting is
done during the Holi
time, the Navi Mumbai
Municipal Corporations
garden department is
all set to start patrolling the city well in advance.
“We start patrolling
a week before for any
illegal tree felling. Our
workers on patrol in
residential areas that
day, and we even have
our zone heads who keep
a watch out for illegal
cutting of trees. Anyone
caught chopping a tree
will be directly given to
the police, the punishment is decided by the
police, and it can either
be a fine or a jail for a
number of days,” said
Chadrakant Tayade,
administrative officer,
garden department of
Navi Mumbai Municipal
Corporation
(NMMC).ý
However, authorities said that the situation of tree felling for
holi bonfires has reduced over the years.
Last year, only two
such cases were reported during Holi. “We
have been keeping a
watch every year, and
people have certainly
become more aware
now about the environmental issues, and illegal tree felling cases
aren’t that many these
days,” said Tayade. ý
According to the
Maharashtra (Urban
Areas) Protection and
Preservation of Trees
Act, 1975, one has to
take prior permission
from the civic body’s
Tree Authority to fell or
cut any tree or its
branches. The violation
of the Act is a punishable offence, and one
can be fined anything
between Rs 1,000 and
Rs 5,000 and be imprisoned for up to a week.
Youth killed by minor younger brother
Emphatic Win!
Yet another emphatic win and that too against the mighty Proteas,
the first time by the Indians in a World Cup. What a performance by the
Indian team! It was beyond our expectations and imaginations. The fighting spirit was at its peak. Dhawan and Rahane rose to the occasion and
played a ruthless innings to help India post 300 plus runs. The fast bowlers
and spinners bowled tightly and took wickets at regular intervals. The
fielding was also superb! Once De viliers was run out, the South Africans
could not recover from there. The asking rate climbed up beyond reach!
The margin of victory for the Indians was also incredible! I wish Dhoni
and his lion-hearted team many more wins in the remaining matches
and pray for Cup to be ours.

All-round display helped Melbourne win
Super Sunday show saw Indian Team breaking the jinx of beating
South Africa for the first time in World Cup. The stupendous win was
achieved with all-round display of the team and the fielding factor helped
to get rid of two most
dangerous batsmen in
one day cricket. Pace
bowlers played their
part to perfection but it
was the spin of Ravichandran Ashwin that
pinned the South African batsmen rooted to
the crease and commit
mistakes after mistakes. He changed the
flight and trajectory to
his advantage and his
wicket of Duminy was
the turning point of the
match.
In the previous game both Duminy and Miller demolished the attack
in a whirlwind partnership and that became a world record. He was well
supported in the field as well. But the foundation was laid by both Dhawan and Rahane, who played most calculative game to put up a substantial total, which ultimately put paid the hopes of South African side. Now
we have cleared the first hurdle of playing the league games to perfection
and the team should get prepared to play the next four games without
any setbacks and plan for the knock out stage of the Championship.
In the past the team was looking for backdoor entry to reach the knock
out stage but this time round Dhoni marshaled his side with clever moves
and that paid rich dividends to upset the applecart and provided a smooth
sailing so far.
