join us for two amazing weeks of non-stop science discoveries!
…See course description on the other side.
CAMPERS WILL BE AMAZED WHEN THEY:
•
Build and launch their own rocket that will fly over 1,000 feet into the air
•
Venture out of doors to build primitive shelters, design
water purification devices and cook food in homemade
solar ovens
•
Disassemble computers to see what’s inside
•
Design, build and program a complex robot to walk, talk, think, speak and even
dance!
•
Dig into the Earth to discover the beautiful creepy crawlers living underneath
Innovation Station STEM Camp is designed to transform laboratory science into fun and
interactive learning experiences for kids ENTERING GRADES 1 - 8.
Camp hours will be 9am – 3pm each day and will be housed at the Mount Olive Middle School

living plants, bugs and creepy crawlers as you investigate the ecosystem of dirt. Campers will enjoy hands-on
experience as they dig in the dirt for worms, grubs, pill bugs, plant roots, and so much more! There's even an
opportunity for campers to view creepy and not so creepy crawlers under a microscope!
Spy Science

Science. Uncover the science involved in gathering clues, searching for evidence and making/breaking codes
by using high-tech spy equipment and crazy forensic tools. Enjoy physical activity while learning the art of
being a spy. Hone in on your observation skills as you work with fellow sleuths to connect the dots in some
very perplexing mysteries!
Campers Entering Grades 3 – 8
Grades 3 – 8 Course Description
Rockets
Got a yearning for explosive projectiles? Blast off into this fun and activity-filled course learning about rockets
and the physics of rocket flight! After learning the model rocket safety code, you will build a number of
different rockets and participate in the launching, propulsion, and recovery of the rockets you build. Proudly
demonstrate your knowledge of rocket principles with a launching finale friendly competition! 3…2…1… Blast
off!
Competitive Robots
This is your opportunity to explore the exciting world of Robotics! Unleash the creative powers of building a
really cool LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 ROBOT and programming a super-cool NAO HUMANOID ROBOT to
walk, talk, think and do just about anything else you can imagine. Bring your robots to life with an easy,
intuitive and icon-based programming interface.
* Note: This is an introductory robotics course; no previous experience in robotics is necessary.
Surviving Life after the Zombie Apocalypse
The apocalypse is upon us, bringing down the electrical grid and upsetting life as we know it. Would you have
what it takes to survive without modern conveniences? Rebuild with Science! Join our expert instructors as
they teach you the ‘Rule of Threes’ survival skills as you build shelters, design water purification devices and
create solar ovens. You may even find yourself standing at water's edge, casting a line with your homemade
fishing pole.
* Note: This course requires campers to take day trips to local state parks. Transportation fees are included in enrollment.
What's Inside? Computers I (Grades 3-5)
Have you ever wondered what makes a computer so smart? Explore the major parts of a computer and their
purposes in our reverse engineering, What’s Inside? - Computers session. In this session, campers will
disassemble and reconstruct desktop computers and laptops, discover the basics of software and investigate
how software, hardware and firmware work together to make computers work.
What's Inside? – Engines II (Grades 6-8)
Students will discover how various modes of transportation work from human-powered machines to gasoline
engines as they take apart and maintain everything from their own bikes to go-karts that they then get to
drive! This course will teach students about the importance of gears, the parts of combustible engines from
steam engines to gasoline engines, and how each is used and maintained. Finally, the last day of this course
is spent on the track where students examine engine efficiency by counting the laps with the gas-powered gokarts that they are driving!
