February 2015 Enchanting Shores Co-Op, 17 Turquoise Ave., Naples, FL 34114 enchantingshores.com Phone: 239-775-1221 Fax: 239-775-5955 From the President….. Is everyone still on track for their New Year's resolutions? I feel comfortable with writing 2015, this number seems to flow better than 2014. It is good to see everyone back and active in this great community. Folks are walking, riding bikes, and jogging on occasion. Activities and clubs are active with great participation. Exercise, both in the club house and pool are keeping many in better health. We even have "belly dancing" available this season, I never thought I would see this in a "55+" community. I am reminded that age is only a number. Stay healthy and fit with the many clubs and activities that are available to all at ESC. Remember we have blood pressure checks available in the clubhouse also. Don't let hypertension, high blood pressure, sneak up on you. It is free and confidential. See the calendar for times and locations. It is always great to see the involvement in the community. This season is as busy as always, with many activities and events already completed. We just finished with another successful Fish Fry and "Rod Stewart" event. Pancakes and coffee continue throughout the season. The Spaghetti Dinner and the Hamburger Roast is also scheduled. Keep involved, get involved, and stay active. Don't forget our Annual Meeting is scheduled for February 13th at 9:30. We will NOT have an election this year, as there are only four candidates running for four positions on the Board of Directors. We will have to vote to rollover monies from last year's budget, if we don't vote yes to rollover the monies, we have to pay taxes and lose dollars to the government. Our Treasurer will explain this at the Annual Meeting. Your help is always appreciated throughout the year. We continue to update and reconfigure the office (including a closed ESC Facebook Group). The Board will update everyone at our annual meeting. The Annual Meeting is a meeting for the shareholders of ESC, not a regular Board of Directors meeting. Our Attorney will be present as well as a speaker from Collier County. 5 Lɭɖ 0 ʋ ɧ Ջ ɰOɍ President Attention Annual Meeting Inspectors and Counters….. Please plan on attending a meeting of the Inspectors and Counters on Monday, February 9th at 9:00 am in the MPR room. This informative meeting will bring you up to date on the procedure to make your day go smoothly. If you have any questions….give me a call. Karen Clark, Election Committee Chairman 239-793-0426 The Annual Shareholders’ Meeting will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 9:30 am. The next regular Board meeting will be Friday, March 13, 2015 at 9:30 am. Inside this Issue: Club News…….10-12 Current Events…….4-9 Travel…….13 From the President…..(continued from page 1) We have continued to see improvements….. 1. Tree trimmings have improved around everyone's property. The BOD is aware of the last, less than normal, mass trimming of common ground and shareholder's palm trees, and has been addressed. 2. Our water conservation efforts are improving. ESC water consuming is less this season, so far, as it was this time last season. Thanks everyone for correcting leaks, and following watering guidelines. 3. Most everyone has washed the grime, dirt, and algae off their homes. If you have not please walk around your property and check for that great curb appeal ESC is known for. 4. Continue to walk or bicycle in the dark with illumination. We all have safety on our minds. 5. We have replaced all of our street signs and our road map. We are looking at our speed limit and stop signs next. Continue to follow the posted 10 mph limit in ESC, and please stop at the Stop signs. 6. Your Car stickers are noticed, remember ESC stickers are to be placed on the driver's front and back bumper area of your vehicle and the tongue of any trailer. All renters and visitors also need to have the appropriate identification as well. 7. Our office continues to see appropriate permit application, it is great to see proper improvements to your homes, remember to stay within your permit. 8. Our Rules and Regulations prohibit parking on our streets overnight, or in the grass. Continue to follow your RULES and REGS. 9. There is no overnight parking in any of the common areas without the direct consent of the office. The area in front of the tennis courts is not an extra parking lot. 10. We continue to be a NO PET PARK; this also includes any guests, renters, or visitors. With your help and support we will continue to improve our small piece of paradise. Again, thanks to all clubs and activities, and especially our shareholders, for your support of our upgrades. We continue to enjoy the activities throughout the season. I hope your New Year's resolutions are on track for 2015. 5 Lɭɖ 0 ʋ ɧ Ջ ɰOɍ President Voting Clarification By Bev Burnham, Secretary If you are mailing or bringing your Limited Proxy to the Co-op Office prior to the Annual Meeting, place your signed Limited Proxy into the self-addressed return envelope for Proxy. After you seal the Proxy return envelope, be sure to print your name and ESC address and sign where indicated below the address. Signing the outer envelope is required for the Proxy when you are voting in advance of the Annual Meeting. Signing the Limited Proxy is always required. ESC Residents’ Directory Bev Burnham, Secretary If you have any changes to your information (address(s), phone numbers and email address(es) in the 2013 ESC Residents’ Directory, please fill out the form that was included in the January Newsletter or pick one up at the office. All new forms will need your signature for permission to include your information in the Directory. We will be publishing a new edition of the Directory in March 2015; therefore you will want to be certain your data is correct before this next edition goes to the printer in February 2015. 2 CLUBHOUSE Report….... by Keith Avery Greetings Everyone, We have placed a new Bulletin Board on South wall of the Clubhouse for the purpose of advertising any upcoming park activities that in the past have been placed on tripods at the main entrance to the Clubhouse. We are asking that this be used instead of the tripods to alleviate some of the clutter at the Clubhouse entrance. There is a plan in place to start construction on a storage building on a portion of the cement pad that's on the East side of our storage shed building. The purpose of this building is to store the tables and chairs that are now being stored in the Maintenance building, than the area that we open up in the Maintenance building is to be used for storing Christmas decorations and other supplies that our park Groups, Clubs and Activities need to store when not in use. Thank you to all of you who worked on the committee to research storage space on ground level. There is a sign-up sheet on the Bulletin Board in the Clubhouse asking any men in the park that are willing to volunteer their time, talents and tools to help out with this building project. Any questions please see Jerry Ballard 12 Jasper, Howard Loveless 15 Jasper or myself at 7 Zircon, for further details on this project. The construction on this shed is expected to start around 2/9/15. Loy Zalecky, Treasurer of our Clubhouse kitchen supplies, has informed me that our Clubhouse kitchen supply fund balance is down to about $30.00. If there are any Clubs or Groups that would be willing to donate any monies to this need, please contact Loy. Rollover Proxy Kay Sherman, Treasurer Rollover Money from 2014 will be applied to the 2015 Operating Budget. This Rollover enables us to have the Maintenance Fee remain as is, NO INCREASE. Florida Statutes require a vote of the Shareholders at the Annual Shareholders Meeting. I recommend all Shareholders vote YES….monies should be rolled over to the 2015 Operating Budget. If it is not passed the monies must be reported as income and we will be required by Florida Statutes to pay tax on the money not being rolled over into the 2015 Budget and then of course we will be short monies needed for the 2015 Budget. I feel the CO-OP does not need this as an added expense to our Budget. If you are not able to attend the Annual Meeting, you may vote ahead of time by filling in your proxy (and signing the proxy), putting it in the designated envelope, seal it and fill out (and sign) the return address label on the envelope before dropping it off at the office prior to February 13 th. All proposed proxies will need 2/3 of all Shareholders (244) to vote “yes” to pass. So please vote! Thank Ron & Sherry Hysell for helping the Christmas Decorating Committee for the last few years!!!! How could I have done that??? I always see you there working your butts off and you never complain! Thank You….Thank You….Thank You….. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - Afternoon in February The most serious charge which can be brought against New England is not Puritanism but February. - Joseph Wood Krutch "Freezing cold winds, biting chills, and white snow fluffed hills Valentines day, oh how gay! Presidents' day is coming our way. February, sweet and small, greatest month of all." - Eric Lies - 28 Word Poem for February 13 What Are Some Quotes About February? “February is a suitable month for dying. Everything around is dead, the trees black and frozen so that the appearance of green shoots two months hence seems preposterous, the ground hard and cold, the snow dirty, the winter hateful, hanging on too long.” – Anna Quindlen, One True Thing “Late February, and the air’s so balmy snowdrops and crocuses might be fooled into early blooming. Then, the inevitable blizzard will come, blighting our harbingers of spring, and the numbed yards will go back undercover. In Florida, it’s strawberry season— shortcake, waffles, berries and cream will be penciled on the coffeeshop menus.” – Gail Mazur, The Idea of Florida During a Winter Thaw “February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March.” – Dr. J.
