Hello fellow Mountain Artists, There is much to tell you about this month, so I hope you will read to the end and get all the exciting news there is to be aware of! First, it is already time to sign up for Festival volunteer positions. Some of the more burdensome tasks, like pulling a water wagon around the square, have been eliminated. And don’t forget that all volunteers can show their wares in the MAG show tent, and keep 100% of their sales. Such a deal! Also, there are some new, fun opportunities, like working the entry point for the wine garden. There is a bottle of wine for taking that shift. Other committees being formed, and needing members, include the Benefit Auction Events committee that will direct the annual Scholarship Auction as well as our new spring MAG Benefit Auction. Another committee that, for lack of a better name is being called the Minor Fundraisers, could be a fun place to volunteer. It will cover events from the Christmas Bazaar to a new spring Craft Bazaar to be held this year April 25 and 26, just in time for Mother’s Day Sales. Hope you will plan to participate in that! We want to include many more vendors this year. Congratulations to Marla Smith, whose oil painting “Thumb Butte Moonrise“, was voted by the membership as the 2015 Winning Promotional Artwork. Look for t-shirts and greeting cards available for purchase in the gallery featuring this beautiful work of art. Marla’s painting will also be featured in Mountain Artists Guild’s advertising and marketing throughout the year. There is also a Marketing Committee, a Membership Committee, a Mailing Committee which needs typists, and people who can put mailing labels on straight, and those who like to think of creative ways to advertise. We also need a Sunshine Committee that welcomes new members, sends condolence cards at appropriate times, and other similar assorted tasks. Oh I almost forgot the Art for Youth Committee, which I think is filling quickly. We hope you will find some place to volunteer. Don’t forget that February’s 4th Friday will coincide with the Leather Crafters Sale and Exhibit, and reception. There won’t be a business meeting that night, and we will have lots of guests at the reception. It should be a great evening, so don’t miss it. Last but certainly not least, we want to give you a heads up that we will be voting on an update to the bylaws at our March 4th Friday meeting. These changes will include the ability to use electronic communications, including voting via email when necessary for a special board meeting, and clarifying rights to family memberships that include adult children with their parents or adult siblings. We have also clarified and eased the voting by proxy process, and ensured a fairer and smoother election process. We have made it possible for the general membership or the board of directors to remove a member or officer from the board of directors when it is in the best interest of the Guild. We have also assured the autonomy of the Mountain Artists Gallery and Gift Shop committee and their board of directors so that we always have their indispensable partnership in executing the functions of the Guild and Gallery to the maximum benefit of our members. We should have a copy of these new bylaws available to you by mid February. We encourage you to read them through and be an educated voter. Don’t hesitate to contact the board with any questions or comments you may have. Happy Valentines Day! Janis Keeling, On behalf of the MAG Board of Directors Mountain Artists Guild • 228 N. It has been wonderful having extra help on 4th Fridays and during the intake process for the shows. Speaking of shows – following is a list of shows for 2015. The current show is “Life in the West” and it will accommodate the “Leather Show” February 25–28. The following three upcoming shows slated are: • Black & White with a Splash of Color • Just for Fun • Something Round Something Smooth Our mailing list needs updating. If you do not want to receive notices through the US Postal Service you may opt out by notifying MAG via e-mail at [email protected]. If you have friends, family or supporters of your art who you think would want to be included on our mailing list, please let us know so we can add them to the list. The Gallery welcomes all visitors during regular hours and on 4th Fridays. However, the Committee has decided that pets will no longer be allowed in the gallery at any time. We love animals but it is not appropriate to have them in a gallery filled with original art. Finally, if you have any questions or comments concerning the gallery please contact us. Our e-mail addresses are on the first page of the newsletter. Herndon Grice Welcome New Members!!! I attended the Chamber Annual Meeting last night representing MAG. Dave Mauer, CEO of the Chamber, has always supported MAG. We had our photo taken to show our supportive relationship. Also our BOD member Stuart Blacklaw was there...so we did a selfie in support of MAG and Yavapai College. It was so nice to see the Benefactor Acknowledgement Plaque for Jeri Smith-Fornara and David Fornara Family Trust displayed prominently at Mountain Artists Guild. They have done much for the Guild and its programs. And MAG and its members are very thankful. —Donna Carver Did some great networking for MAG and for our upcoming Leather Show... there was great interest! —Donna Carver WINTER OIL PAINTING CLASSES WITH Sheila Savannah All artists in Arizona are invited to submit works for the annual Arizona Artists Guild Statewide Open Exhibition to be held at the Gallery Glendale located at the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, Arizona.
