Called Worker Anniversary Celebration
As we prepare to celebrate, with the Word of God and Sacrament, the
anniversaries of our called workers we wanted to let you know some details and
ask you for help when able:
Free-Will Offering Gathered for All those Celebrating an Anniversary
Sunday, February 22
Sunday, March 1
On the two Sunday’s leading up to the anniversary celebration, we will put out
our free-will offering basket in the narthex to gather gifts of money that will be
split equally and given to those celebrating an anniversary. If you would rather
give a personal gift or card to a specific called worker you can do so on your own
or you can use the gift table at the Juneau Community Center.
Worship & Communion
March 8th – 8:00 & 10:30 AM
We are going to celebrate the anniversaries of our called workers in both the 8:00
AM & 10:30 AM worship services on March 8th. There will be special music,
instruments, a guest preacher, guest liturgist and we will be celebrating the Lord’s
Supper. Please encourage any of your children (high school, college, or have
moved away) that had one of these teachers to especially come that Sunday to
worship our God.
Anniversary Meal - at the Juneau Community Center
March 8 – 12:00 PM (this time is an estimate)
The Meal
The St. John’s Ladies Aid is helping in the preparation of our special anniversary
meal. The following items are going to be provided on March 8th at the Juneau
Community Center at 12:00 PM: Turkey with gravy, ham , green beans, potatoes,
rolls, refreshments (coffee, water, milk, lemonade)and a special anniversary cake.
Please sign up in the narthex if you and or your family are planning on attending.
Side Dishes
The anniversary committee is asking that you, the members of St. John’s, would
bring a side item to share such as a salad, dessert, or side dish. There is a sign-up
sheet in the narthex that you can use to let others know what you are planning to
bring (so we all don’t bring a salad). We are planning on serving around 300
people so please bring something to share.
Setup / Decorating
Mrs. Suzi Colantonio is organizing the decorating of the Juneau Community
Center. The Parent-Teacher Society (PTS) has been asked to help with the setup of
the tables, chairs, gift table and decorations. The decorating of the Community
Center is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th. If you would like to help (anyone can
help not just PTS) please sign up in the narthex.
Serving
The seventh and eighth grade students of St. John’s have been asked to help with
the serving of beverages at the meal. We also have a signup sheet in the narthex
asking members of our church to help out with the serving of the meal.
Equipment Setup
Mr. Rick Leissring will be setting up the sound system and projector at the
community center after the second service on March 8th. We need at least 4
people to aid Rick in getting the equipment packed up and set up in a timely
fashion after the 10:30 AM service. If you are able to help please sign up in the
narthex.
Cleanup
We are asking everyone that attends the meal (except our guests of honor, their
families or visitors) to help with the clean-up. Since Chef Chanse was so nice to let
us use the Juneau Community Center for this event we want to make sure that it is
sparkling clean when we leave. Please also feel free to thank Chef Chanse for his
kindness the next time you see him.

Dear fellow-followers of the Savior,
We pray that you have had a good celebration of the birth of Jesus, whether alone, with your
family and/or your family of faith. The contemplation of our Greatest Present will go with us all
through the new year about to begin.
It is a hot New Year's Eve here in Dourados, and already there are plenty of firecrackers going
off. The noise will only grow until the real barrage at the stroke of midnight, after which it will
gradually die down and leave us with only the music of the many parties going on in the area.
We do not have church tonight because of the noise, and because it isn't usually pleasant out on
the streets later in the evening. Too much alcohol and drugs and too many guns.
We had an interesting month here in our congregation. The first two weeks were taken up by
intense rehearsals for our congregation Christmas festival Dec. 14th. That went well and was
well attended. We were thankful that we chose to have it in the morning, because it was a very
hot day, and in the afternoon the sun comes in the church windows full blast. The young people
did a good job of presenting our theme: Christmas in the Heart, even though on Saturday night
we weren't sure they were ready. The 5 large hearts they hung up in front of church will stay
there through next Sunday. The Christmas Eve service was equally heart-warming.
Dec. 21st we had the baptism of 3 children from one family to enjoy, then last Sunday the
confirmation of the husband of a member. Two different members who live in other states were
here with us last Sunday. It was so good to see them and have them with us for the Lord's
Supper.
We are taking this long week with no Wednesday service to do some chores around the church
and parsonage. Re-waxing the church floor, fixing a few little things, working in the yard and
planning for the services of the new year.
In January Charlie will make a trip to the congregation in the south to visit, exchange
experiences and visit with the members. It isn't the best time to see the members. because, like
here, many are gone for summer vacation. But it is the best time to go because Pastor Elcy, the
Brazilian pastor there, will not be teaching school, and the work is slower here, too.
If you have something you would like to know about the Brazilian mission, please let us know
by return e-mail. We would like to present to you what you would like to hear. Also, if you are
interested, the National Church web site is www.dezcomdeus.com. On it you can get a glimpse
of Gilberto preaching, of the bell choir rehearsing, as well as hear some hymns that our people
have recorded. Most of you won't understand the Portuguese, but you'll see what we look like.
We have just provided window stickers to our members with cars announcing the web site to
people around here.
And we come to the end of another year thanking God for all of His blessings, and all the
blessings He makes possible through your prayers and offerings. With us, step off into the new
year with confidence, knowing that whatever happens, we belong to the Lord.

LWMS NEWS
We have been given 3 new "Befriend A Missionary " assignments to learn about,
interact with, pray for and support for 2015-2016. They are:
Darrell Dobberpuhl - Fort Apache, AZ WORLD MISSION
Dustin Blumer - Amazing Love Ev. Lutheran Church Frankfort, IL HOME MISSION
Erik Landwehr - Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church Castries, St. Lucia HOME MISSION
Our congregation has been given the month of February to "shower" these missionaries
with a bit of extra Christian love and support. Watch the bulletin for more information to
see how you can help with this project. In the meantime, keep these missionaries in
your daily prayers.
Another project that our congregation is being asked to help with - making cross
necklaces or crosses in the pocket for CAMM (Central Africa Medical Mission).
Necklaces should be long enough to fit over an adult head - plastic cording is not
recommended as the knot does not stay in place. Crosses for the necklaces can
be various sizes and materials. It is suggested to incorporate beading as the Africans
love beading and bright colors but it is not required. A picture of sample necklaces can
be found by the LWMS Mission Box. You have until April 12thto complete the crosses.
A basket will be set out at the end of March and into April to receive all the crosses.
They will then be taken to the LWMS Spring Rally in Princeton.
Also this month, check out the letter from Kari Belter, the Nurse - in - Charge at the
Lutheran Mobile Clinic in Malawi. this mission is often referred to as CAMM ( Central
Africa Medical Mission ). The last letter from Mrs.Flunker is also included. We hope you
enjoyed reading and learning more about the mission in Brazil! Continue to keep these
and all missionaries far and near in your prayers!
