Yes PROPOSED ATTACHMENT SUPERVISOR Dan Berry, programme manager in the Behavioural Insights Team [email protected] 020 7210 6219 PROPOSED EDUCATION SUPERVISOR Dr John Watson and Dr Gina Radford, Deputy Chief Medical Officers at the Department of Health will provide educational supervision and oversight for the DH National Treasure registrars‟ programme PROJECT (please provide a brief description of the project if pre-determined) This is an opportunity to work across an exciting area of policy development and research innovation in DH – and with colleagues in NHS England. The post will provide an opportunity to apply an understanding of human behaviour to a range of health challenges, design and lead research projects, and communicate this learning to the NHS, national and local government commissioners, and DH policy-makers. The behavioural insights approach is expanding quickly and to good effect across health and care services. The post holder will help embed this approach more fully in NHS England, following a strong commitment in the recently published Five Year Forward View. The post holder would have an opportunity to work a diverse and high profile range of health policy and implementation challenges. These would be discussed with the successful post holder. Upcoming projects include: Decisions about how patients access NHS services NHS efficiencies Supporting self-care and prevention long term care funding reforms Background: DH established a Behavioural Insights Team in 2012. The team works closely with the Behavioural Insights Team (the „Nudge Unit‟) formerly based at the Cabinet Office; and with a sister team in Public Health England. The team increasingly supports innovative research projects with NHS commissioner and providers, including the new strategy unit in NHS England. The team comprises a programme manager and two analysts, alongside public health, NHS Leadership Academy and PhD student placements. The team has close links with a number of world-leading behavioural scientists and senior officials in DH and the NHS.
