NOTICE OF RACE
Anacortes Yacht Club
Girts Rekevics Memorial
Foul Weather Race
Saturday February 21th, 2015
The Foul Weather Race is open to all yachts that have completed the registration
process using the Anacortes Yacht Club on-line registration system available on
the club website (www.anacortesyachtclub.com) and have a valid 2015 PHRF
rating. If your boat is not listed in the PHRFNW online database, bring your rating
certificate to Friday Harbor or you will not be scored.
The event consists of a race from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. As in the past, we
will be starting between R2 and the Refinery Dock in Fidalgo Bay, Anacortes, and
finish between the NW corner of Brown Island and the NOAA Weather Station in
Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, a distance of 19.5nm. In addition to the formal
race, we hope to be competing again with our friends from the north for the
Stanley Thermos Cup this year.
EVENT FEES
The entry fee is $40.00 per racing boat and $30.00 for cruising boats which will
cover the San Juan Yacht Club’s facility costs. Race Registration must be
completed on-line by Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
Dinner & Awards for 2015
The San Juan Island Yacht Club has graciously allowed us to use their facilities
again this year. The Dinner will be “all you can eat” catered gourmet lasagna, salad
and bread with dessert and open no-host bar at yacht club drink prices; it
promises to be a great night with an excellent venue for our post-race party.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
This event will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2013-2016 RRS,
except as modified by these Instructions. The race will be scored using time-ondistance with a specified distance of 19.5nm. All race communications will be
made using VHF channel 72.
There will be a boat at the finish line to take your finish times, however, all boats
are requested to record their finish time using GPS time and report it to the race
committee in Friday Harbor within one (1) hour of completing the course. Such
reports must be made in person or by calling Chris Roethle (Emoyeni) at
360.550.6496 or Kyle Saum (Kymodoce) at 360.303.2509 (Note: Please leave a
message if they are unable to answer, this is your responsibility)
In the 2015 Race Packet, it is a requirement that all boats comply with Pacific
International Yachting Association (PIYA) safety requirements. All distances races
shall be considered Nearshore + events. However, vessels are strongly
recommended to treat distance races as PIYA category “Coastal Events”. For
additional information on PIYA safety regulations visit www.ussailing.net/piya.

Because this event occurs in constricted waters with considerable commercial
traffic it is important that the skipper of each boat understand that it is a
REQUIREMENT that they not impede commercial traffic. As soon as it is apparent
that a boat might impede commercial traffic it is the skipper’s responsibility to exit
the area immediately, under auxiliary power if necessary. If power is used, it must
be reported to the Race Committee after finishing. A written report must also be
made showing the location, time, duration of power use, speed, direction of exit,
and that the competitive position of the yacht was not improved. Failure to
comply with this requirement may result in disqualification.
PRE-RACE CHECK-IN
All boats are expected to check in between 0830 and 0930 at the start line
Saturday morning with the committee boat. All check-in’s are to be made by radio
using VHF radio Channel 72. There will not be a skippers meeting prior to the
race.
