Dear Lakeview Families,
This year is really moving along at a rapid rate! Our students are accomplishing great things and also making good
academic progress. We had a total of 796 students on the A/B Honor Roll and 185 students with straight A’s the
first semester. We appreciate all of your hard work checking your child’s planner, checking ProgressBook and
keeping involved with Lakeview Middle School. Our students have also been very busy creating an aquaponics
garden, competing in the Science Fair, collecting for various organizations to help improve our community and
reading at an all-time high completed sessions for a week during our Reading Plus challenge.
Our Performing Arts Departments have also been extremely busy going into this second semester. Our advanced
handbell students received a standing ovation at the State Music Teachers Convention in Tampa. Our chorus
students performed for the crowd at the Apopka Arts and Jazz Festival earlier this month. Our Builders Club
(Kiwanis Club for middle school students) have been visiting the residents at Golden Pond throughout the year and
have really added a special time for both our students and their new friends. Our Drama department is busy getting
ready to perform Annie to our community this spring. .Our Barnes and Noble Family Night was a great evening for
all who attended. We thank all of our local restaurants who have supported us with spirt night throughout the year
helping to support our student recognition programs. .
It’s that time of year where we all are getting focused and fine tuned for our state assessments. All students will
begin with their FSA writing assessment Tuesday, March 3rd . Soon all of our students will be assessed in the
progress with Reading, Math and our eighth graders in Science. Everyone has been working hard to master the
grade level standards so our students just need to continue to give their best with each assessment. We will be
offering some extra Saturday sessions to help fine tune these grade level skills for our students. For more
information concerning the new state assessments visit http://fsassments.org . This year we will also be assessing
each students for each course by an end of course exam (EOC). Please help your child do well on the FSA
assessments and End of Course Exams by setting an early bedtime prior to the testing dates, talking to them in an
uplifting and encouraging way about testing, and providing them a nutritious dinner and breakfast prior to the test.
Our teachers have worked extremely hard to give our students the tools and strategies to be successful on these
assessments, and we feel confident that our students.
We would also like to remind you to pick your child up at the cafeteria from the Boys and Girls Club if you cannot
be here by 4:15 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 3:15 on Wednesday. ALL students must be picked up in
the back after this time for safety reasons. Any student remaining on campus must be under the supervision of one
of our staff. We have many clubs, tutoring and the Boys and Girls Club offered during this time to help our students
continue to be involved. We also serve dinner to our students after school to support their nutrition.
It’s always a pleasure seeing our families involved in our activities here at Lakeview Middle School. Thank you
for all you do to help support us in preparing your child to be a successful high school graduate and get prepared for
their years ahead. I am very blessed to be your principal here at Lakeview and also to work with you towards
enhancing the positive changes of our great community.
Your principal,
Shirley N. Fox, Ph.D.

As we come to the 3rd nine weeks of school, it is important that you are aware of the middle school exit requirements. No
student will be permitted to enter 9th grade if they have not met these requirements. In order to be promoted to the 9th
grade, students must successfully complete three years in all core subject areas (math, science, language arts, and social
studies).
In order for a student to recover a failed core course, they must complete a course recovery program. Currently, Orange
County uses Edgenuity to meet this need. Course Recovery will be offered to those students who need to participate. Students
will be able to work on course recovery in room 446 during morning tutoring from 7:30 – 8:30; in the media center after
tutoring from 8:30 – 9:30; and after school during Boys & Girls Club from 4:00 – 6:00. Students may work on course recovery
at home.

All students should be completing Reading Plus at home at least seven sessions (4 sessions Reading Lessons and 3 vocabulary
sessions) per week. Reading Plus is not only part of the student’s grade, but it is also a valuable tool for students of every
reading level. Research indicates that scores improve, and it dramatically improves reading fluency and
comprehension.
Students should maintain focus and read for meaning. Guessing and/or answering wrongly too often can
cause the students to get locked out of the system due to low scores. When this happens, the teacher has to unlock the program
before the student can continue. Please encourage your student to do his/her very best so that he/she can be even more
successful.
Fund for the Future
Lakeview’s Fund for the Future was formed two years ago in order to help support Lakeview with the upgrades and updates needed to offer
our students the same 21st Century learning environment and tools as newly built and renovated schools. We are now part of a non-profit, 501c
(3) held by the Foundation for OCPS that is dedicated to raising funds through the collaboration of our parents, fellow educators and our
community.
When Lakeview was renovated in 2005, it was one of the last renovations that did not include any upgrades or replacement of computers and
technology. Every year we have been increasing and replacing our technology by spending the technology funds we receive, using a portion of
our A+ School Recognition funds, writing grants and accepting gently used equipment that is no longer needed from other locations in the
school district. Recent research supports the need for our future workers to be able to use technology and digital media strategically and
capably in order to be successful. We thank all of our families who donated items to our Fall Silent Auction during Open House. We raised
$451.00 from your donations. You can assist our Fund for the Future by donating items for our Spring Silent Auction or by making a tax
deductible contribution.
Please contact Dr. Shirley Fox at 407.877.5010 ext. 5122222 or at [email protected] if you would like more information about our specific
needs in detail or make a tax deductible donation to help Lakeview move forward in providing our students with the tools to be successful in
the 21st Century. We are passionate about preserving the quality of our students’ education through financial support and creative
fundraising…..We’d love for you to join us.
Reading
Teachers of Achieve reading classes would like to remind students that they are required to complete one article per week
outside of class at www.teenbiz3000.com. Students must score a 75% or higher and are highly encouraged to look back in the
article to help them reach this level of mastery. Articles can be completed on mobile devices as well as computers.
Students in Read 180 have completed the second SRI test for this school year. The SRI measures reading comprehension and
is a strong indicator of reading growth over the school year. Please contact your child’s reading teacher if you did not receive
their scores with the 2nd 9 weeks report cards and would like a copy.

From our 8th Grade Office—Graduating Class of 2018!
It’s hard to believe that we have completed half the year already. Eighth graders this means you have completed 50% of
your goal to make it to high school. Hopefully you have been successful the first two nine weeks with ensuring that you’ve
earned a “C” or better in your core classes such as math, science, social studies and language arts. Eighth graders you
should be meeting with your Guidance Counselors to ensure you are on track with all your required credits to move on to
high school. You don’t want to wait until it’s too late, so start planning today.
Parents you can help with your child’s continued success by making sure they are doing homework every night. Students
should do math practice or reading daily. Parents when students tell you they don’t have any homework, encourage them to
spend time on Reading Plus. You are probably thinking that this role ends by the time your child reaches 8 th grade, but it
doesn’t. Parents by assisting with homework, stepping in to answer questions or offering encouragement shows your child
you’re invested in their success. Supervising your child’s homework gives you a chance to see what they are learning and
how well they are grasping the material. We continue to prepare your students through daily instruction for End of year
Course exams for half credit courses, Benchmark testing and OC Writes.
Parents you will soon be receiving information on an important event that has developed into a milestone in becoming an 8 th
grader and that’s Gradventure. There is a team in place preparing information in regards to T-Shirts, transportation and
ticket pricing. Please help your students to be a part of this great adventure by encouraging them to do their very best
academically. In addition students should be placing great importance on arriving to class on time and being ready to
receive the instruction that the teacher has prepared. Remember “Preparation is the key to your success”.

From our 7th Grade Office—Graduating Class of 2019!
Wow! Can you believe it? We are already half way through the school year. We still have much work ahead of us. Now
is the time more than ever to make certain that we buckle down and focus on the win ahead. Students, make certain that
you complete and turn in all assignments. Remember to complete your ReadingPlus assignments each week. Check
ProgressBook daily to keep track of your academic vital signs. Parents, continue to encourage your child to perform at
his/her best each and every day. I am thrilled to report that our 7 th grade data trends continue to show vast improvement
in the area of discipline. As I walk through classrooms students understand expectations and are eager to learn. Students
are encouraged attend school every day and to arrive to each class on time. You never know, it just may be the day that
we teach everything.
The 7th Grade Administrative Office is dedicated to the educational needs of each child.
If I could ever be of any assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached via e-mail at

From our 6th Grade Office—Graduation Class of 2020!
It seems like the newsletters always come out around the time of grading. On the 30 th of January your child should have
received their report card for the first semester. If your child is taking a semester long course such as physical education, this
will include an end of course exam. As you know, every course in 6 th grade this year will have an end of year exam except for
Language Arts and Math. The state standardized tests in Reading, Writing and Math will serve as their end of course exam.
These exams count as 20% to 30% of their course grade.
To help monitor students on their progression of course standards, students take periodic benchmark exams. Your child has a
data sheet that contains information on the first set of benchmark tests. During the next two weeks they will be taking the
second round of benchmark test so that they can compare their growth. I would encourage each of you to review that data with
your child. The students should be receiving their scores on the second benchmark tests within a week or two after completing
them. On January 22nd they will also be taking their third Orange County Writes benchmark. As you read other articles in this
newsletter you will see some of the great activities that the students have been involved in. There is something for everyone
here at Lakeview whether it is sports, music, drama or other after school activities through the Boys and Girls Club. The middle
school years are an opportunity for your child to explore their areas of interest and to become involved in outside activities.
Please encourage your child to step out of their comfort zone and explore some of these opportunities.
Lastly, as I said previously, I would encourage you to stay involved with your child’s school life. Middle school is a time when
children are experiencing a lot of new things and testing boundaries. They may react in ways that they never have before.
Realize that as they are making decisions they are establishing patterns that will probably stay with them for the rest of their
lives. They will remember how you responded for the rest of their lives. Both encouragement and correction are needed to help
them develop into responsible adults. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teachers, Mrs.
Bergdahl the 6th grade counselor or the 6th grade office. We are here to support both you and your child. If there is anything
that I can do to help, please let me know.

Dolphin Team News
The Dolphin team is proud to
add another team member, our
new math teacher Kaylee Hurtt.
Mrs. Hurtt graduated from the
UCF School of Education. Prior to coming to Lakeview,
she taught at Hope Charter School. Mrs. Hurtt is very
unique in that she can teach math and music. She teaches
private piano and voice lessons and helps with the school
choir at Edgewater High School. We are so happy to have
her part of our team.
Students enjoyed the Teach In with Mrs. Hite and her
Siberian Samoyed dogs. Other classes enjoyed listening
to “That One Spot” famous hamburgers in Ocoee and a
bank manager from Wells Fargo. The students enjoyed
listening to their stories and advice about how important
staying on track and getting good grades leads to success
in all areas of the business world. Celebrations this 9
weeks are with Reading Plus, many additional students
are making the grade. Behavior celebrations were had by
games in the gym and snacks for students that were well
behaved and didn’t have discipline issues.
Congratulations to Elliot Bell, who has met all the

Panther Team News
Wow, it’s hard to believe we are
already half way through the year and
gearing up to finish strong. We have
made some great strides but the best
is yet to come.
Students of the Month: The Panther team was proud to name
Govinda Mohabir as our Student of the Month for
December, and Antavia Thomas as our Student of the Month
for January. Both students have great attitudes, excellent
behavior, and are always eager to help others and do their
very best on every activity in class. Govinda and Antavia are
great representatives of the Bobcat Team spirit!
In December we highlighted two
Panther students that we feel exemplify the best of the
Panthers. December’s “Most Outstanding Panther” was
Alana Burris. Alana is a kind young lady who focuses on
school but is kind and helpful to her fellow classmates. The
other student we highlighted for December was Julio
Pacheco-Romero for being our “Most Improved Panther”.
Julio works hard at improving at school every day. For
January our “Most Outstanding Panther” is Heriberto
Rangel. Heriberto is an outstanding student but still finds
time to have fun. Our “Most Improved Panther” is Ethan
Mullamphy. Ethan works hard in all of his classes and has
shown that hard work pays off. In addition to being good
students these four young people are good citizens of
Lakeview. They are helpful, on task, and well behaved in all
of their classes. Congratulations.
Most Improved Students: We are pleased to recognize the
students that have stood out to their teachers, both
academically and behaviorally. For Math, Mr. Mathura would
like to congratulate Leyli Velazquez for working so hard in
the first quarter and Naya Jones for being so participatory in
class. In Science, Mrs. Workman would like to congratulate
Tameria Jernigan and Jose Cervantes for both working
extremely hard in her class. In Language Arts, Ms. Whyte
would like to applaud Callie Cramer and Alycia Cardenas
for being so actively engaged in our daily activities. Lastly, in
Civics, Mr. Charles would like to thank Edwina Jones
and Edwina Fleuridor for their devotion this past
nine-weeks to improving academically. These students have
been working really hard in these core academic classes, and
we want them to know that their efforts have not gone
unnoticed.
We look forward to continued success in this
second half of the year. As always the Panthers will be on
the prowl.
Reading Plus News: We have many students who work
diligently each night on their Reading Plus activities, but one
student in particular stands out. The Bobcat Team would like
to congratulate Catherine Gunter for completing 172 lessons
so far this year! You have set the bar for excellence, and we
are so pleased with your efforts.
Jaguars Team News
The Jaguar Team is looking forward to starting the third nine
weeks and continuing to challenge students and prepare them
for the new end of year exams.
Our Bobcat Team T-Shirts are available
for only $8. Please give cash or check
(made out to Lakeview Middle School) to
Ms. Whyte in room 413.
Jaguar students of the month for January are Marley Patrick
and Willie Reed. These students show exemplary behavior,
focus and participation in their core classes.
AVID Study Tip – Review notes for every class every day
as you complete your homework (or for homework) add
color, study questions and questions to ask in class.
The Bobcat Team thanks you for an awesome first half of the
2014-2015 school year and looks forward to spending the rest
of the year with such fantastic students!
Sincerely,
Mr. Charles, Mr. Mathura, Mrs. Workman & Ms. Whyte

Lightening Team News
Now that the first Semester has drawn to a close, we
encourage all students to reflect on their
performance. Use the experiences of the first half of
the year to find those areas where you can maintain
the positive. Look for those areas where you can
improve. Come up with a plan to have the best
second Semester you can possibly have. Field trips
and EOCs will be here before you know it, so
maintaining good grades and positive behaviors and
attitudes is a must.
As always, we encourage all parents and students to
check Progressbook, and to keep on top of all work so
there is not a scramble at the end of the 9 weeks to
pull up grades. Learning is always the focus. We are
looking forward to another good 9 weeks, and an
amazing second half of the year.
Hurricanes
Welcome to the second semester on
the Hurricanes team and to another
exciting time of fun and
learning! We are pleased with the
progress of our students and hope
that they keep working hard to
accomplish their goals. Mr. Bate’s classes have been learning about
the Constitution. Mr. Mankoff’s math classes have been studying
systems of equations. Mr. Loebenberg has been teaching about
force, speed, and motion. Mrs. Eddin’s classes have been working
on their writing skills doing persuasive and expository essays.
Please don’t hesitate to contact any of us with any questions or
concerns. We also encourage parents to check progressbook
regularly to make sure students are meeting the state benchmarks
and staying on top of their work. We also would like to
congratulate Branden Young and Angelina Rahaman for being our
students of the month for December. They both have shown great
leadership and work ethic. The Hurricane team’s motto is RTL or
ready to learn when we walk into class. We are getting our
students ready for the end of course exams and for high
school. We look forward to another outstanding semester in the
classroom as the Hurricanes strive to be the best team on campus!
Tidal Waves News
The Tidal Waves have returned from the winter break chilled and ready to go. Students have
been acclimating to returning to the pressures of eighth grade and the teachers have been quite
helpful while assisting with this process. As the second quarter closes, students are faced with the
many challenges of the EOC’s and the Benchmark tests. As we look forward to the upcoming
semester, students will see the first ever FSA’s that begin in early March with the writing assessments.
The Student of the Month for January is Nicholas Gore. Nick is always willing and able to assist with other students and
has a great positive attitude that is infectious. Nick serves as a leader in his class and throughout the school with activities
such as student council.

In Journalism we are working hard to master the
benchmarks for our EOC. Students are learning and
presenting new vocabulary related to the field of
journalism. Each week they are assigned an article to
write and publish as a way to expand their experience
on the career path of journalism and practice their
writing skills. Each and every day they are working
diligently on composing the 2014-2015 Lakeview
Middle School yearbook. We are giving our 8th
grade students (and their parents) the chance to
purchase a Baby Picture and personalized message
for $25. It is a great way to showcase how much they
have grown over the years. All students are able to
purchase a Buddy Picture for only $20. They can give
a shout-out to their friends or use it to commemorate
a great time they had this school year. For interested
parents, you can also purchase a Business
Advertisement for $30. This is a 3.5x2 inch space in
the yearbook to help promote your business to the
several hundred students and families that buy a book
each year! Until February, the yearbook pre-sale
price is $28. It can be purchased online at
balfour.com or from Ms. Whyte in room 413.
Basketball season is underway. Girls practice Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:00 to 5:30. Wednesday

rollerblading soon. Parents please look for the rollerblading
permission slip that was sent home on Tuesday, Jan.20.
Boys & Girls Club After School Zone
The Boys & Girls Club after school program offers
academic support and enrichment activities daily. Students
can receive help completing homework assignments and
projects. They can also use the computer lab to work on
Reading Plus, Achieve, as well as classroom projects or
research. With the start of the New Year we will launch our
Young Entrepreneurship club, where students will learn all
about business including creating a product and presenting
their idea at a youth Shark Tank event.
BREAKING NEWS! For the first time ever you are

Students don’t need to sign up. All they need to do is
come to the gymnasium on the first and third Friday
morning (every other Friday) to attend. Students play
basketball and other fun games and then they listen to a
short talk from a local pastor, youth pastor, or an exciting
speaker. After the message, students play games again,
then we give every student a breakfast snack. If you
would like more information or if you would like to
volunteer, please contact our FCA “Huddle Coach”, Mr.
Adams. We will have info on some awesome summer
camps soon. Thanks!
After School Zone is sponsored by a grant from Orange County
Government.

Sixth Grade Math
Students in sixth grade math are moving into
decimal operations, rate and ratio this marking
period. We will be learning how to calculate costs,
estimate taxes and tips and add it all together.
When we progress into rate and ratios we will be
planning trips to different cities in Florida and
using MPG, MPH and the cost of gas (so glad it’s
dropping), we will be able to figure out how long
it will take and how much we will spend.
Remember to practice times tables with your
students every chance you get. This is the most
critical skill they will build upon in middle
school! We also want to welcome Mrs. Hurtt to
the sixth grade math team. She is a great asset and
resource and we are so glad to have her diligence
and enthusiasm in sixth grade math!
Sixth Grade Language Arts
In language arts we have been reading the
novel, Walk Two Moons by Sharron Creech as
a class. The students are reflecting on specific
evidence in the novel to be able to respond to a
literary analysis writing prompt. The students
have been practicing the structure of an
expository essay to be able to successfully
analyze literary elements from different texts.
Remember students have a book project every
quarter and should always be reading a book on
their own. Please look for the reading log that
goes with the project because it does require a
parent signature. Our next unit will be focused
on argumentation writing. You can help your
students by asking them pros and cons of given
choices.
Sixth Grade Life Science
The Science Department would like to thank Mrs. Carey for her
dedication and hard work in providing students with the
opportunity to compete in the Science Fair. Her commitment and
enthusiasm towards this vast undertaking has not gone unnoticed.
We appreciate all that you do, Mrs. Carey!
The Sixth Grade Science teachers have focused on teaching about
the functions of the organ systems of the Human Body. Students
have learned the general functions of eight different systems of the
human body and how the systems work together! We hope you
have gotten lots of questions at home. The organ projects
completed in Mrs. Carey and Mr. Cameron's class were very
informative and well done. Of course, the highlight of the quarter
for most students was the Frog Dissection. Many thanks to the
Bond Foundation for making the grants possible that allowed our
students to learn in this way. Many students who were not
enthused about dissecting frogs now want to be surgeons!
We begin the third nine weeks studying infectious diseases. We
will learn the root causes of most diseases, why a disease is
infectious, how fast they can spread, and what students can do to
prevent the spread of disease. After this unit, we will begin
studying heredity and genetics, which is always a student favorite.
If your student needs some extra help with science all teachers are
available either before or after school by appointment. In
addition, your child has been given instructions to access the
online science textbook, which will actually read their book to
them. There is also a Spanish version available.
Sixth Grade Ancient World History
Our sixth graders just finished writing the essay, “Is
Hammurabi’s Code Just?” It was interesting to read what
they thought about this king. We are now moving on to
Ancient Egypt. The students are learning how geography
influences the way people live, what makes a culture unique,
and why civilizations rise and fall. The students will
eventually create mini structures to demonstrate the ruins of
Ancient Egypt.

Seventh Grade Civics
7th Grade Language Arts
As we begin the third marking period, we are shifting from
imaginative literature and will begin our exploration of
informational texts. Our main objective for the next
section of our SpringBoard curriculum centers around the
effects advertising plays in the lives of today’s youth.
Students will explore this by engaging in a variety of tasks
include creating their own original advertisements, learning
to engage in collaborative discussion groups, and learning
to strengthen their expository writing skills.
Students will also have the chance to bolster their reading
skills by selecting books to read outside of class. After
reading they will complete reading logs and a project to
practice reading comprehension skills.
This past 9-weeks the 7th grade Civics students have been very
busy learning about the major significant documents that our
country’s government is founded on. They started the quarter
discussing the Declaration of Independence then as we
progressed as a new Nation, moved on to the Constitution.
Throughout the quarter, Officer Nefty visited our classrooms to
discuss internet safety and the opportunity of making good
decisions as a citizen. Officer Nefty also talked about the
importance of community service, and as part of the
requirement for his visits, the students were required to
participate in community service projects.
We are looking forward to a great marking period.
Seventh Grade Science
Students in the Earth and Space Science curriculum are
shifting their focus from Space and the components and
interactions of celestial bodies to Earth and how its
processes shape the world around us. They will begin their
focus of our dynamic planet by understanding how various
landforms, in Florida and beyond, are constantly changing
either very slowly or very quickly. They will also seek out
information related to Earth’s history and the processes that
scientists use to determine the past and future of Earth.
Seventh Grade Math
The seventh grade math team is finishing our first
of two years participating in the MARS project with the
University of Minnesota. This Schema based approach to
teaching our students about proportional reasoning was
very effective. We look forward to our second year on the
project. As we move back into using our HMH curriculum
we will be using the launch pad more. To log on use
Google Chrome as your browser and go to launch.ocps.net .
Then the student needs to use is their Student ID for the
username, and their birthdate (yyyymmdd) as the password.
Once the site launches have them click on the HMH link
and then the my.hrw selection and explore math.

Welcome to the second semester of pre-algebra. The
purpose of this class is to get students ready for Algebra 1
in high school. We encourage parents to regularly check
progress book for grades and assignments. All students
have access to the book website through
www.launch.ocps.net.
This has great resources including videos, tutorials, and
extra practice. Mr. Mankoff and Mrs. Marschall are our
two pre-algebra teachers. Please contact us with any
questions or concerns about the class. Math tutoring is
available after school on Thursdays from 4:00-5:15
PM. Math tutoring is also available daily in the Math Lab
from 7:30-8:15 AM. We look forward to another great
semester of learning.
8th Grade Language Arts
During the second quarter, the eighth grade Language Arts
classes have focused on text mapping informational texts and
essay writing. Students learned the ACE strategy to answer
writing prompts based on informational texts. They also
completed foldables on this strategy and on essay structure to
include in their interactive notebooks. Recently, the 8 th grade
classes completed the SpringBoard Close Reading workshop
on argumentative text. The students looked at two historical
speeches to analyze the persuasive techniques, including logos,
ethos, and pathos. The next step will be to write persuasive
essays on a choice of selected topics. Students will practice
using the persuasive techniques in their own writing
Algebra 1 and Algebra 2
Welcome to the second semester of Algebra 1. This is a
high school course that will count toward the high
school GPA. It is a challenging course but we know all
of our students can be successful if they work hard and
study. All classes have been working on solving systems
of equations. Polynomials and quadratic functions are
two of the topics we will cover in the third nine
weeks. All students will take the Algebra 1 E.O.C
which is fast approaching! The first resource available
is the book website which is accessed through
www.launch.ocps.net.
This has great resources including videos, tutorials, and
extra practice. The next resource is Algebra Nation
which is also available thru launch. This has videos,
extra practice and actual E.O.C questions. Tutoring is
available daily from 8:40-9:20 in room 439. It has been
great to see that room packed daily! Mr. Mankoff, Mr.
Morrison, and Mr. Mathura are the Algebra 1
teachers. Please contact us with any questions or
concerns about the class. We look forward to another
great semester of learning.
Eighth Grade U. S. History
There are many wonderful things happening in 8 th Grade U.S.
History! We continue to work on analyzing historical
documents. Our students are no longer intimidated by the
process and are learning to complete their DBQ (Document
Based Question) essays one question at a time. We are also
continuing to build student engagement with the use of games
for word and online resources such as Kahoot.it and Edmodo.
We look forward to the next few weeks as we wrap up how
the United States established our government and political
systems.
Eighth Grade Physical Science
Students are progressing from a focus on energy and how it
changes form to a focus on matter and its various properties.
They will begin by describing matter and the multiple ways that
matter can be changed by adding, removing or changing the type
of energy it contains. They will then focus on the smallest pieces
of matter that scientists are able to quantitatively measure: the
elements of the periodic table. They will focus on these elements
and how they interact with each other through various processes.

R
ecently the TV Production students have been practicing their
editing skills and learning about careers in Digital Media. We’ve also spent
time learning about the pre-production process and how to create a good
storyboard, the production process and how to frame up interesting camera
shots, and the post-production process and how to edit a good video. So far
the students have produced several videos that have aired on the Morning
Announcements.
ALL THINGS TECHNICAL
T
he computer students in Mrs. Jordan’s
classes are once again exploring their computer programming potential. We are spending time on the

Student Council
December was a busy month for the student council members as it was time to spread some holiday cheer to
the staff at Lakeview Middle School with the Secret Santa ideas students had. From nutcrackers and candy to
mugs and candy canes, the staff and teachers at Lakeview were celebrated as a way to say thank you for all
the hard work done throughout the first half of the school year. Additionally, students sold candy grams for
the student body the week before the winter break.
As we begin the second semester, the student council geared up to selling carnations for Valentine’s day. Proceeds from this event
will go towards the Relay for Life event that will be coming later in the school year. More information about Relay for Life will
be forthcoming.
Mr. Thornton and Mrs. Sharrieff would like to thank all the students for their participation and hard work as we end the first half
of the school year and begin and exciting second semester.
