Summary:
The position of Associate Director, Executive MBA (EMBA) programs is responsible for operating and
expanding Tippie’ s Executive MBA programs currently offered in Iowa City and Des Moines. This
individual will be involved in all program aspects including: student recruitment; student satisfaction and
outcomes; building and managing relationships with alumni, corporate partners and stakeholders;
financial budgeting and oversight; working with faculty on curriculum enhancements; strategic planning
and analysis; event planning and logistics, and staff management. This position requires a combination
of business development, relationship management, operations/administration and logistics skills.
The Associate Director will be involved in state and regional development with a particular focus on
student recruitment and organizational relationship development in central Iowa and westward. A
successful candidate will be a dynamic self-starter, flexible to adapt to unexpected change, and be able
to make decisions in a fast-paced environment. This position involves up to 40% travel, mostly within
Iowa, during the school year and peak recruiting times. Some evening and weekend time is also
required.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY (KARs):
Recruit, admit and retain students for EMBA programs







Develop and implement strategies to recruit high quality Executive MBA cohorts representing
diverse personal, academic, professional, and organizational backgrounds.
Interview and advise prospective students regarding admission; evaluate application packages
and transcripts; make admission decisions regarding routine exceptions and petitions
Analyze admissions data; develop; maintain and monitor reports to support program goals;
maintain student records
Plan and implement student recruitment events across the region and online
Plan and implement events to engage students/families, alums, potential students and sponsors
Cultivate, maintain and enhance relationships with EMBA alumni, corporate sponsors and
community leaders.
Actively participate in business and community organizations across the state to gain visibility
for the Tippie EMBA program. Examples include ABI, Rotary, Chambers of Commerce, etc.
Work with Tippie MBA marketing team to develop and implement a marketing plan to support
recruiting goals and enhance the Tippie brand



Oversee and enhance EMBA program website strategy and content
Contribute content and editorial input to marketing materials
Provide information to assist in measuring results of marketing initiatives
Administer EMBA program to meet University and Tippie requirements, academic standards and
curricular policies







Develop and maintain productive working relationships with faculty and staff at Tippie and
across the University, and with internal and external suppliers to the EMBA program
Participate in strategic planning process; prepare EMBA portion of plan
Monitor student performance, perform degree audits and work with Program Coordinator to
plan and implement graduation activities
Develop and maintain program materials and schedules; incorporate changes into internal and
external documents
In conjunction with program coordinator and assistant director, create and maintain EMBA
master calendars
Work with Program Coordinator to compile accurate statistics for MBA program surveys and
other requests for data
Effectively leverage and develop the skills of support team, including Assistant Director, Program
Coordinator and graduate assistants
Assist with the development and ongoing improvement of EMBA curriculum







Work with Tippie faculty and staff and external stakeholders to plan, design, integrate and
evaluate curriculum for continuous improvement
Benchmark best practices among global EMBA programs and recommend enhancements
Work with Departmental Executive Officers (DEOs) to formulate teaching schedules that match
program requirements and instructor availability
Review course evaluations and address issues as appropriate
Working with Program Coordinator, plan and implement all aspects of first and second year
EMBA residency weeks
Work with faculty and Assistant Dean to collect and compile data for Assurance of Learning
requirements
Develop and coordinate student satisfaction survey process; analyze results, develop and
implement improvement plans
Develop and manage the budget for Executive MBA programs



Manage program budgets while maintaining Tippie brand and student experience
Actively monitor expenditures vs. budget. Provide midyear and interim projections as
requested; proactively identify and discuss potential budget variances with the Assistant Dean
Work with Accounting, Purchasing, Legal, Risk Management and other entities as needed to
ensure that financial commitments comply with University policy
Represent the University of Iowa, Tippie College of Business and the EMBA program



Attend and actively participate in global and regional EMBA Council conferences
Represent the Program at Tippie and University functions and community activities and events
Serve as assigned or requested on Tippie and University committees

Supervision Exercised
This role supervises the Assistant Director, Executive MBA programs, as well as part-time graduate
assistant(s) or site assistant(s). This position shares responsibility for functional supervision of Program
Coordinator who supports the department.
Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education
and experience.
Required Qualifications

stakeholders
 Demonstrated extensive interpersonal skills to develop and enhance professional relationships
with alumni, faculty, corporations/organizations, government entities, colleagues and potential
partners throughout the business community and various University schools and departments.
 Extensive oral and written communication skills - ability to communicate effectively at
executive-levels in industry, the community, and within and outside the University
 Proven sales, business development, recruiting (or equivalent) skills
 Working knowledge of planning and managing budgets
